  1. Jesus was more of a "Golden Rule" guy. I mean the "Do unto others..." rule, not the selling of golden shoes. But it's an interesting question - What if Jesus and Trump met? Jesus would probably say to him, "Go and sin no more." Then Trump would call him a left-wing lunatic and put hm on his enemies list.
  2. Good and evil are adjectives, not nouns. There is no such thing as sin (although there are harmful behaviors). We are just a species of bipedal, self-aware, hairless apes who evolved the mental capacity to make inferences and assumptions about the mental states of others. (Religion is a by-product of this ability as we infer what is in God’s mind.) We react to what we experience with the primary goal of survival in a world of both randomness and cause and effect.
  3. There are four organizations that are very worthy, doing wonderful work, that I give to regularly: The War Amps Doctors Without Borders (Medicins Sans Frontiers) The Salvation Army And our local Hospice
  4. Trump will not put the best interests of the world first, but his own. He would burn it all down, in order to “rule over the ashes.” (in the words of Sun Tzu) And - According to Yuri Shvets, a former KGB spy and a key source for the book American Kompromat, Donald Trump has been a Russian asset since the 1980s. Trump became the target of a KGB spying operation around 1980. In 1987, he travelled to Russia, where they flattered him (they knew his psychology – and that he was vulnerable) and fed him Russian propaganda. After that trip, Trump came home and started spreading pro-Russia talking points, including skepticism about US involvement in NATO. He took out full-page ads in the New York Times, Washington Post, and Boston Globe “on why America should stop paying to defend countries that can afford to defend themselves.” Russia celebrated the ads as a successful “active measure” executed by a new KGB asset. Since then, he has always taken Russia’s side. You can read briefly about this in the Guardian article: ‘The perfect target’: Russia cultivated Trump as asset for 40 years – ex-KGB spy
  5. Who is this "Jack" and why should we listen to him? Why is he stirring up anger, and agitating for animosity, based on most likely an unfounded rumour? People who throw bricks should be met with some skepticism.
  6. I wouldn’t take Trump’s disavowal of Project 2025 as proof that he intends to ignore it. That depends on accepting Trump’s word, and his word is worthless. The slide into autocracy always begins with lies, and Trump has made lies his MO. For anyone who wishes to understand the depth of his willingness to use lies to maintain power, it’s recommended that you read Jack Smith’s immunity filing in the case of The United States of America v. Donald J. Trump. (It is easily found online at several sites, but I hesitate to post links as a new member.) I have read the entire 165-page filing. It preserves Trump’s words and deeds surrounding his attempt to illegally overturn the 2020 election, an important document for future historians.
  7. The theory of evolution simply states that “life changes over time.” These changes are initiated by random mutations in DNA. When you say that the “theory of evolution has been thrown out” are you suggesting that DNA does not mutate? Your choice of the words "unproven" and "proven" reveal some misunderstanding of the nature of science. "Proof" is only used in Math. In science, we say the hypothesis, or theory, is either supported or not supported by the evidence. We don't need to replicate the entire history of life on earth to accept that life changes over time, nor that natural selection is the mechanism by which life changes. The evidence for this would fill a library.
  8. So, I am trying to understand the OP’s concepts of good and evil. What are they? Are they forces? Are they entities with agency? Are they nouns or adjectives? Are they convenient – and subjective - judging labels?
  9. Well, both Kim and Kamala were bright stars that burned out quickly. Another thing they had in common was the sexism heaped on them. Kim was called unreliable and unstable because she was twice-divorced and had no children. Kamala was pilloried for a relationship, even though it was between two consenting, unattached adults. Maybe Kamala had it worst, as the object of Trump's misogynism. "Dummy" "Low IQ" "Retarded" "Stupid" That is the only way Trump can deal with an attractive woman who challenges him.
  10. This has to be one of the most nonsensical things I've ever read. Can you please provide the parallels between modern liberal policy and what was going on between the European powers in 1914?
  11. There’s a long history of the federal government providing grants and funding to a variety of businesses with the express goal of creating jobs. It’s always about creating jobs. $9 million is really not a lot of money for the federal government. The federal government provided Air Canada with $5.9 billion in Covid-19 assistance in 2021. Is that more to your liking?
  12. Yeah, that seems pretty heavy-handed, and lacking in common sense. I think if anything, only a warning was called for. I hate to think it, but I wonder if the mother showed attitude, and the officer power-tripped in turn.
  13. It's true, young people are moving towards the right. My Canadian-born-and-raised niece, who now works in the US, is a Trump supporter. But like most young people, she gets her information from videos posted to TikTok.
  14. To say that there are only two possibilities - biological women and biological men - is inaccurate, and doesn’t take into account the complexity of our development. Both our bodies and our brains are dimorphic (differentiate to male or female). But the developmental processes that differentiate a body and differentiate a brain are two different processes. In the first trimester of pregnancy, the body sexually differentiates under the influence of genes – and either testes or ovaries develop. During the last trimester of pregnancy, the brain sexually differentiates under the influence of genes and hormones – and either a male or female brain develops. Usually, these two processes are coincident – (male body + male brain or female body + female brain) and a cisgender person is born. But sometimes, the brain develops the opposite gender from the body – (male body + female brain or female body + male brain) and a transgender person is born. I read about this in the book The Biological Basis of Gender Incongruence (which you can read online for free) (Since I am a new member, I hesitate to post links as it might risk my status)
  15. I have not read Peter Hegseth’s book Battle for the American Mind: Uprooting a Century of Miseducation, but I read the blurb on Amazon. He claims that “our kids come out of government schools hating America” and there is a “Progressive plan to neutralize the basis of our Republic.” His book is described as “a field guide for remaking school in the United States” so they deliver a “classical Christian education.” What does he mean by that? Is he wanting to advance the white evangelical fever dreams of Christian nationalism?
