The L.A. Fires Have Nothing to Do With DEI By Shaun Harper January 13, 2025 3:30 PM EST Harper is University Professor and Provost Professor of Education, Public Policy, and Business at the University of Southern California, where he holds the Clifford and Betty Allen Chair in Urban Leadership. Elon Musk, conservative journalists and commentators, and numerous others on social media are blaming the L.A. fires on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts despite providing no evidence to verify their claims. During a time at which fire suppression and disaster recovery ought to be the highest priorities, DEI attackers are recklessly seizing this opportunity to advance an agenda that ultimately aims to further divide Americans. I live in Los Angeles. We don’t need more disinformation about DEI, especially right now. Scientists have demonstrated how the Santa Ana winds and dry grounds are principally responsible for the devastation of the fires. Instead of acknowledging the relationship between the fires and climate change, conservatives are blaming individuals whose representation and strategic efforts make the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) diverse. For instance, Karen Bass, our city’s first woman and second Black mayor, has been erroneously criticized for cutting the fire department’s budget by 17%. The inaccurate claim on Fox News, as well as on social media, is that Bass and LAFD Chief Kristin Crowley reduced the budget and redirected those funds to DEI initiatives. The truth is that while Mayor Bass’ first 2024-25 budget proposal called for a 2.7% reduction in spending at the LAFD, the department’s operating budget ultimately increased by 7% when $53 million in pay raises for firefighters and $58 million for new fire trucks and other department purchases were later approved by the Los Angeles City Council. more: https://time.com/7206543/the-los-angeles-fires-have-nothing-to-do-with-dei/ James Woods, Elon Musk, and FOX News, three of the worst offenders, when it relates to disinformation, should never be believed. I find it disgusting, that these people will not even wait until the fires are contained, and have done everything to impede the firefighting effort, by casting blame, rather than helping the situation. The fact that the World's richest man, is impeding efforts rather than using his finances for helping the situation, or donating to worthwhile causes, is disgusting.

lol...we have all been "warned" about climate change, and the catastrophic results of not addressing it since the 80s. However, MAGA and others continue to insist climate change does not exist. These fires, and the rise of temperatures globally are on the powers that be, for pushing this false narrative.

The fact that the MAGA hyenas want to end democracy, should be of no surprise to us. After all, these same bad faith actors, were cheering on the January 6 insurrection, to pervert democracy. I'm even willing to bet that they secretly admire the Nazi rise to power in 1930's Germany. They are in a cult, and will gaslight us.

Relatively speaking, you may have been a kid to him, when he became an adult in the 60s.

Liberal Party Leadership Race
NAME REMOVED replied to NAME REMOVED's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I wish there was a party in the running that could accomplish this. Unfortunately it is not the PP and the Conservatives. -
He didn't lose his home. He went on the news, crying like a 10 year old school girl, and blaming the mayor, Democrats, and the Governor. Quite a departure from most of his neighbours, that actually helped each other. I find it amusing that you are always ranting about the LGBTQ community, yet you lick James Woods arsehole. Just come out of the closet. I will not judge you.

James Woods brought this upon himself. Have you bothered to follow him on social media? He has been spreading venom for the past decade, nearly every single day. He is also a borderline pedophile. When I see him blubbering like a 10 year old girl on national TV about his property burning down, I can't feel any empathy for him. In times of crisis, people tend to show their true colours. We should strive to be like Harry and Meghan Merkel, who until recognised were at the forefront of helping people that have become homeless, by volunteering at soup kitchens and shelters. James Woods has not done anything helpful, and continues his venomous rhetoric. It has only intensified. One would think nearly losing your home may be a good time for self-reflection, or to come together with the community to support each other.

Interesting. We see this playing out today. The stupid can be manipulated to believe anything, and usually lack the critical thinking skills to be objective. We see it on this forum.

DOINK! Washington defeats the Bucs 23-20 on a last second FG, and will advance to the next round.

It is strange. I know that Kamala Harris was not impressed. She cropped out Trump from this photo lol.

I was checking out the credentials of Mark Carney, an Edmontonian. Very impressive. He is one of the best economists in the World, serving the Bank of Canada, and the Bank of England. He also was a backup goalie for Harvard, and received his Masters degree in Economics from Oxford University. Compared to Pierre Poilievre, who's greatest accomplishment in life, has been "Paperboy of the Year" for the Calgary Sun, it should be an easy decision for most Canadians.

All my research on climate change, including numerous near crisis situations in the Southwest United States, would eventually lead the nation to look towards Canada to quench it's thirst. The whole issues that Trump has brought up to impose tariffs on Canada and Mexico, are a distraction for the most hawkish members of MAGA, who want to outright annex our country. The US wants to deplete our water resources, and are prepared to use force, if we resist.

Britain’s mass child rape horror
NAME REMOVED replied to Nationalist's topic in The Rest of the World
Child rape is never OK, but unfortunately it happens. Murder happens too. People steal too. It's not acceptable, but bad things happen. However, nobody has come forward, and provided any kind of stats suggesting this is a huge epidemic, that is worse than any other European or North American country. -

2% Defense GDP by 2030

It certainly would not take us long to become a veritable force, if we aimed for 2.5% GDP spending. Look at Poland. They have really put an effort into their military, and they are now arguably the strongest army in mainland Europe.
