  1. If you think we've been a failure you should see what the big emitters like China and Russia and India and Indonesia are doing.
  2. Nothing can be done given the realities of this world. I can say "Sure, something could be done if every nation on the Earth cooperates and works at it." But I might as well talk about some other kind of nirvana we could become in that impossible situation. Because it's not going to happen. Most of the people in charge of most countries are only interested in the short-term, in how things work while they're in charge. They don't give a damn about what might happen fifty or more years in the future. Which is why they're still putting up coal plants.
  3. Experts? The scientists have merely said what needs to be done. The people who have decided what to do are not scientists but politicians. And they're not doing it.
  4. Scott McLaughlin executed for stalking, raping and murdering his ex-girlfriend. Darn. Three years of wearing his hair long and calling himself Amber all for naught.

  5. The developing world has put up literally thousands of new coal fired power plants since the Paris agreement was signed. Hundreds more go up every year. So yes, there is NOTHING Canada can do. You call that defeatist but I call it a realistic assessment of the world. You worried about global warming? Then have the government put money into efforts to ameliorate its effects, like better infrastructure and building codes, like designing ways to deal with drought or flooding. Because spending hundreds of billions on CO2 reduction is just pissing into the wind.
  6. Pollution is not the environment. CO2 emissions are an inevitable byproduct of all-too many industries, not to mention much of the world's power and transportation systems. As the developing world develops it's building more cars, more power plants, and almost all of that is powered by coal or other fossil fuels. That's not going to change any time soon no matter how much fussy little men like Trudeau stomp their feet.
  7. The question will be what he's had to promise the loonies. He already agreed that only 5 members can call to remove the speaker, and last I heard they were demanding he remove all the powers of the ethics committee.
  8. Uh, you mean by the Ethics Commissioner's interpretation of the rules, don't you?
  9. How old are you? Honest question. How do you interpret the phrase 'in the past'?
  10. The ethics commisioner's job is to merely investigate and then make a report as to whether someone violated ethics rules. It's then up to the Prime Minister to punish them. And if we had a prime minister who cared even slightly about ethics that would have already happened.
  11. Your guess as to what I'm saying would be unnecessary if you instead relied on reading what I said. This is laughable, you know. "Hey, I had nothing to do with it! I Just told my employee to take care of it for me!"
  12. Because we understand the tradeoff between guns and butter.
  13. One where people in government doing such things is against the rules.
  14. In the lead-up to Ng's office giving a contract to Alvaro's firm, Dion said that in March 2020 -- when the country was first grappling with the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic -- Ng "initiated an informal telephone conversation" with her friend to discuss "her concern that she wanted to be best prepared to address Canadians and businesses." Dion said both confirmed to him that they did not discuss a contract with each other, with Ng saying "the entire process was delegated" to her chief of staff, who was aware of the friendship. This wasn't someone who just happened to be a friend of the minister just happening to get a contract. She and the minister discussed it and then the minister had her chief of staff do the contract.
  15. In the past such folks resigned in shame. But that was when politicians had any shame.
  16. OTTAWA - International Trade Minister Mary Ng apologized Tuesday after the federal ethics commissioner concluded she broke the rules by awarding a contract to a friend https://www.ctvnews.ca/politics/trade-minister-mary-ng-broke-ethics-rules-over-contract-to-friend-commissioner-rules-1.6192820
  17. An intelligent legal/prison/parole system would help prevent shootings and crimes involving handguns by putting the people who like to do it in prison for long periods of time. Regardless of their race or ethnicity. This conservative most definitely wants tougher border measures. The problem is they won't have much impact unless someone works up the courage to tackle the wide open gates that are cross-border native reserves. That leaves detective work to identity those who bring guns over and sell them and then hammer those people with long periods of prison time. That won't work, either as long as we have bleeding heart judges who prefer to give them a gentle slap on the wrist or a stern talking-to. Really, what we need to do is put in place mandatory minimums for smuggling, selling, and especially use of illegal use of firearms and use the notwithstanding clause to keep the judiciary from striking them down.
  18. Maybe you could enlighten the federal ethics commissioner. For some reason he seems to lack your understanding of standing offers and how the system works.
  19. You don't resolve conflict of interest by saying "Whoops. Sorry I got caught. I'll try to be more careful next time."
  20. Why am I not surprised that a rabid Liberal supporter wouldn't even understand what conflict of interest is. Unless you're extreme left, Trudeau is most definitely a lefty.
  21. Where she is an unapologetic hack. Trudeau could rape babies on live TV and she'd be up there blithely waving it away as Trudeau Derangement Syndrome. She would fit seamlessly into the ranks of Republican apologists on FOX news. People like this wouldn't have ever made it to television back in the day.
  22. Helping your friends or family, or for that matter, supporters with government money is corruption.
  23. I could say something appropriately partisan here like "Typical Liberal not caring about corruption!" But honestly, I just shake my head at the lack of standards of people today towards political misbehaviour. I'm old enough to remember when there would have been no question at all of her resigning. She'd have been fired immediately. Then again, Trudeau would have resigned over his ethics violations back in the day too.
  24. Jesus, man. Stop with the conspiracy crap.
  25. Russia is still a stench in the nostrils of the world. Still led by corrupt, rapacious, soulless leaders, still populated by easily herded peasants. NATO is needed to defend the West from such dangers.
