  1. Why did you list a bunch of lies from a Christian website, and ignored what I copied from an actual humanist organization? Just looking at #9, nowhere in humanism is the family obsolete Is it a sin for you to post lies? Is there anything in the real humanism values that you disagree with? So do a lot of Christians. Not many of them deny human biology; only the science denying fundamentalists do.
  2. Paganism? No. No more than Christianity. Secular humanism? Absolutely. What do you find wrong about the principles of secular humanism? First, let’s make sure we’re talking about the same thing. Once you read them, tell me your objections. Here they are from the Canadian Humanist’s website https://www.humanistcanada.ca/about/humanism/ The fundamentals of modern Humanism are as follows: Humanism is ethical. It affirms the worth, dignity and autonomy of the individual and the right of every human being to the greatest possible freedom compatible with the rights of others. Humanists have a duty of care to all of humanity including future generations. Humanists believe that morality is an intrinsic part of human nature based on understanding and a concern for others, needing no external sanction. Humanism is rational. It seeks to use science creatively, not destructively. Humanists believe that the solutions to the world’s problems lie in human thought and action rather than divine intervention. Humanism advocates the application of the methods of science and free inquiry to the problems of human welfare. But Humanists also believe that the application of science and technology must be tempered by human values. Science gives us the means but human values must propose the ends. Humanism supports democracy and human rights. Humanism aims at the fullest possible development of every human being. It holds that democracy and human development are matters of right. The principles of democracy and human rights can be applied to many human relationships and are not restricted to methods of government. Humanism insists that personal liberty must be combined with social responsibility. Humanism ventures to build a world on the idea of the free person responsible to society, and recognises our dependence on and responsibility for the natural world. Humanism is undogmatic, imposing no creed upon its adherents. It is thus committed to education free from indoctrination. Humanism is a response to the widespread demand for an alternative to dogmatic religion. The world’s major religions claim to be based on revelations fixed for all time, and many seek to impose their world-views on all of humanity. Humanism recognises that reliable knowledge of the world and ourselves arises through a continuing process of observation, evaluation and revision. Humanism values artistic creativity and imagination and recognises the transforming power of art. Humanism affirms the importance of literature, music, and the visual and performing arts for personal development and fulfilment. Humanism is a lifestance aiming at the maximum possible fulfilment through the cultivation of ethical and creative living and offers an ethical and rational means of addressing the challenges of our times. Humanism can be a way of life for everyone everywhere.
  3. They belong to all Canadians.
  4. Was it moral for God to order babies to be killed? 1 Samuel 15 2 Thus saith the Lord of hosts: ‘I remember that which Amalek did to Israel, how he lay in wait for him on the way when he came up from Egypt. 3 Now go and smite Amalek and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.’”
  5. God couldn’t think of any other stories to tell other than Lot being raped by his daughters? Is God the perv?
  6. How moral was it for Lot’s daughters to get their father drunk and have sex with him? That sounds more pornographic than anything kids would learn in school. Shouldn’t we ban the bible in libraries?
  7. This is a strawman. No one says “make Alberta poor”. Clearly, Alberta hasn’t become poor despite equalization.
  8. All of that is the “good old days” for people like @blackbird
  9. LOL That's the complete opposite burden of proof required. You don’t have to prove your innocence, the prosecutor has to prove your guilt.
  10. Ban guns, not books.

    1. Army Guy

      Army Guy

Haven't you heard words can be extremely violent...maybe the world just needs some common sense...and some where in the middle of these issues is the answers.

  11. Every non-English speaking country in NATO also operates in English. Your claim of greatness is actually completely mundane.
  12. True. He was also the pick of a Conservative PM. Harper wouldn’t have picked a Liberal hack to tie his shoes. You think Harper would pick a Liberal for GG? LOL Harper picked Johnston to set up the inquiry investigating Mulroney. The goalposts shift….
  13. You think skin colour is a determining factor on how well someone does as mayor?
  14. Does anyone recall the Airbus affair? Harper picked Johnston to write the terms of reference for the inquiry investigating Mulroney. Johnston had reported to Mulroney when he was Prime Minister. Sounds more like Johnston has been a lifelong PC…. if he has a political affiliation. Not that I agree with his findings, but the characterization as him being a lifelong Liberal stooge is laughable.
  15. How do you factor in that he was Harper’s selection for GG? Just ignore it for the sake of your narrative?
  16. Hard to imagine someone was too crazy to be part of Danielle Smith’s caucus. Smith was forced to denounce this bigot. https://www.cbc.ca/amp/1.6853505 UCP Leader Danielle Smith says her decision is "final" to exclude candidate Jennifer Johnson from caucus if elected. In a leaked recording from an event last September, Johnson likened transgender children in schools to adding feces to a batch of cookies. In the days after Johnson's comments were made public last week, Smith said Johnson would not sit in the United Conservative Party caucus, should the residents of Lacombe-Ponoka elect her.
  17. 18 years, while it seems like a lot, is not that much for trying to violently overthrow a government.
  18. Smith found to be in violation of Conflict of Interest Act. Former Conservative attorney general calls for a criminal investigation. https://www.iheartradio.ca/100-3-the-bear/news/former-lougheed-era-attorney-general-jim-foster-suggests-criminal-probe-into-smith-ethics-breach-1.19696696
  19. Agreed. I think churches in Canada are a lot more liberal now than they ever have been. Even public schools “back in the day” were often run by churches, especially in small towns. It’s why my father was beaten if he dared use his left hand to write with. Left handedness was “of the devil”.
  20. You didn’t answer any of my questions, but went off on a strange tangent. Doesn’t paternity leave help strengthen the family unit and allow parents to take care of their children? Why are you against that; is it just because you don’t get it too?
  21. Why would you classify the early immigrants as “Judeo-Christian”, rather than just Christian? You think there were a lot of Jews among them?
  22. You think Jesus would say the state shouldn’t collect taxes to feed the poor? Or would Jesus say “whatever it takes to feed the poor, let’s just do it! Let’s add 2% to the GST and use that money to feed the poor”? Are you opposed to school lunch programs? How much of your income do you devote to feeding the poor?
  23. It always comes down to what I said in my first post in this topic. A lot of these opinions about how Canada sucks can be summed up as follows: “the party I voted for didn’t get in power. Trudeau sucks. I can’t call people insulting, racist, homophobic names anymore without consequences” ….
