  1. Somewhat? But I thought we ignored our instincts at our peril. Can instincts be wrong?
  2. You agree with females being inferior to males? Good to know, I guess.
  3. Tell us more about how you think women are inferior.
  4. LOL Yeah.. I’m sure! All the ladies love dickheads who find them inferior!
  5. What a catch you are! LOL
  6. What history are we missing?
  7. So, in today’s world, you consider tribalism to be a moral virtue?
  8. Would you concur that it’s a human instinct to be tribal? To not accept outsiders and to stick to our own “kind”, however that might be defined?
  9. So you think people in (say) Afghanistan share the same moral instincts that we do in the West?
  10. I know. The questions were rhetorical. My point was that it is a bigoted view that should be shunned by the rest of society as outdated and irrelevant.
  11. Nor should there be disapproval. Why would you disapprove of a skin colour? Or deny the absolutely natural reaction of one person to love another? “I accept you, but just don’t touch another man”? That’s bigotry dressed up as something nice.
  12. You think we have an instinct to get married? Why is marriage so recent then? And why does it take so many forms? In recent history, they have often been arranged, so there goes “instincts”.
  13. Sure, I agree that it’s open to debate. It’s debated all the time. And it seems to be fine, currently, except for a few religious zealots. Acceptance of gay people is not “sex ed”. Agreed. But it’s very important that schools teach students to be accepting of kids who may not be like themselves, including kids with different skin colour, religions, gender or sexual preference.
  14. We got rid of jail sentences for divorce, being gay and premarital sex for good reasons. Laws that try and moralize, rather than being based on harm, are usually more immoral than what they’re trying to stop. Why do you care if two consenting adults have (perform?) cunnilingus. In ‘69 (love the irony), Canada made it legal to have oral sex.
  15. Disagree completely. Harm (lack thereof) to others in society should be what drives our morality. Instincts are fallible. Instincts drive tribalism and not caring for “the other”. We’re better than that. I’m flippant because you haven’t shown that it is any more than that whatsoever.
  16. Meh. That’s more moral panic. Teaching kids that there can be families with 2 dads or two moms, a) isn’t sexualizing in any way, and b) simply reflects the reality that children see every day. Boring, non issue. The kids are alright.
  17. Even if some can, then that eliminates the argument that marriage is a “deep moral imperative “. It simply isn’t if the same thing can be accomplished without it.
  18. This is what the Catholic Church said about divorce, premarital sex and birth control…. But, in all those cases, Catholics are no different than the rest of society, even if the church pretends it is still against all those things.
  19. I think all those look great, on the face of it. What do you find objectionable (try not to be so vague)?
  20. Because babies literally need parents for nurturing. You’re correct on your first point, and being hyperbolic and silly on your 2nd point. Do you think a marriage is necessary to make and care for children? Speaking of hyperbolic nonsense…. That statement is a shitstorm of hyperbole. Wow.
  21. Can 2 people commit to each other without getting married (I’m assuming by a church? Not the state?) as much as 2 people who choose to get married?
  22. You haven’t provided any real world examples that I can apply my principles to…. You’ve only provided a picture of what you describe as a drag queen, and I am supposed to be outraged by it. Do you have any real examples to discuss?
  23. Great comment. There is nothing inherently Albertan about working…. Much of the workforce in the tar-sands is not from Alberta.
  24. Do you think it’s helpful to describe someone in terms of the party they might have identified with 40 years ago? Why the need for this historical pigeon-holing, which actually has confused one of the posters who thought you were calling PP a socialist. Do you still call the NDP the CCF? PP wasn’t even alive yet when the events you post of happened.
