Because those tariffs were REMOVED after USMCA and the US steel and aluminum jobs came at the expense of US industries that buy steel and aluminum. US still imports large amounts of steel and aluminum especially from Canada which still supplies most of your high grade aluminum which Americans can’t produce efficiently due to your high cost energy market. I don’t know any system that works better than supply management. The US system Americans pay for dairy twice: once at the grocery store and again through taxpayer funded subsidies. Americans pay for dairy even if they hate it, and are deathly allergic to it, through their taxes. And yet US dairy farmers still struggle and are financially worse off than Canadian counterparts while still producing milk they know they can’t sell and end up dumping. Eggs is the same story and all you need to do is look at the bird flu egg disaster that’s been unfolding for months now in the US but hardly affecting Canada to see the superiority of our system.

USA is still going to suffer from the tariffs it applied to the rest of the world as well the tariffs it continues to illegally apply to steel and aluminum which are USMCA compliant, and to other sectors that Trump said he would announce in the future. Stock markets continue to free fall, sucker.

And as I already said Canada imports more US dairy than US imports Canadian dairy. The devil will be in the details. Their homes need to be quality builds that stand the test of time and don’t get shabby and rundown after a few years. I also notice they mention mass production of prefab and modular homes. They and their municipal/provincial partners need to be careful not to create ghettos and slums by placing too many in the same place. They should make a variety at different price points and place them in an appropriate mix with existing homes and other new builds. .

On what basis can you say that given the economic devastation Teump has brought? By all accounts the economy he inherited from Biden was “firing on all cylinders” and “moving in the right direction” if still recovering from pandemic and post-pandemic turbulence. Moreover Trump’s economic destruction is entirely self-inflicted due to policies that are his alone are counter to all sage advice amd expertise even from fellow Republicans and some fellow MAGAs. By contrast Biden’s economic challenges were caused by unprecedented external global events that were neither of his making, fully under his control, or with historical precedent. Whether a different policy set would have achieved better results is pure armchair quarterback speculation and not supported by any definitive evidence. The fact that countries around the world all experienced highly similar outcomes suggests otherwise.
