The problem with the “best person foe the job” argument is that it falsely suggests that you can objectively tell who “the best candidate Is” like they all have a number on them. But that’s false. First of all resumes and job interviews aren’t exactly accurate ways to identify “the most qualified candidate”. Its just all we have. But bad hires happen all the time. Second, when you get bunch of candidates for a job, sure there are seemingly some obvious duds and sometimes you get some obvious standouts…. but the rest are either all more or less the same OR they are all seemingly adequate but each has different strengths and weaknesses, unique pros and cons and it’s ultimately subjective and 2 different managers in the exact same situation with the exact same candidates might make different choices based on their personal preferences. Its that subjectivity that historically favours white and male candidates- everything from having a more pronounceable name to misconceptions about hair styles or cultural clothing. For example in many places Black job seekers who do not emulate caucasian hairstyles are still presumed to be untrustworthy and unprofessional. That’s not a written policy anywhere it’s just a bias many people have and don’t realize it. And so inclusive hiring isn’t about filling a quota but ensuring you consciously avoid all the unconscious biases that ALL people have.

I don’t equate neoliberalism with capitalism, we had capitalism before we had neoliberalism. Keynesian economics is still capitalism. There is no reason why governments had to coddle the wealthy and corporations the way they did under neoliberalism. Neoliberalism massively grew the capitalist pie but it also redistributed the slices upwards while pretending not to be redistributive. The reason why America is coming apart at the seams is because: a) the ultra rich and corporations have gotten so large and so wealthy that they no longer fear, respect or need government and as political force have become a fifth column in western nations. In many case they have captured government altogether and placed yes men and business worshippers in power throughout government and within the ranks of the bureaucracy. And b) many of the victims of neoliberalism in the lower working classes (and those in the middle classes who believe their situation is precarious) have turned to populism and antidemocratic movements because they’ve lost all hope and faith in their government’s ability to helping citizens improve their lives. Unlike the post war years when go now expanded services and infrastructure, for the past 40 years governments have reduced and neglected these things. Statistics don’t lie and social mobility has decreased in recent decades. People who don’t believe given doesn’t and shouldn’t do anything for them are naturally going to gravitate toward anti-government, antisocial and nihilistic worldviews. Couple that with our hyper materialistic mass consumerism culture which is arguably also a byproduct of neoliberalism and naturally you’re going to get people who don’t care about climate change or anything else, they just want money and to consume and satisfy their base desires without inconvenience. These people are fertile ground for populisms ugly message.

Every developed country has “biolabs,” genius. Its not evidence that they are planning to launch a preemptive strike against their neighbours with newly invented biological weapons (as opposed to the countless varieties already available) that would wipe out both countries for no reason whatsoever. Furthermore, having a biology lab is not the same thing as developing weaponized biological agents. And having a biology lab is not even remotely the same thing as manufacturing a military weapon system that can deliver a biological payload to a designated target. Lastly the Kremlin apologists have completely failed to explain how annexing Crimea and Donbas would somehow prevent an attack from these fictional “biolabs”. If anything that would trigger an attack which has yet to happen for some unexplained reason .
