  1. I've read multiple articles on the origin of ice hockey, and there is little doubt that the modern game originated in Canada. The fact that other people for time to time booted or passed objects around an icy surface does not mean they invented ice hockey, especially as these informal games never caught on. As for Baseball try telling Americans that it is not their national sport. Mind you, football does attract more fans.
  2. China never stopped building coal fired plants. But its long term plan is to eventually close them all down and replace them with green tech. This is going to be made easier by the fact that wind and solar are now cheaper than coal fired plants. There are some problems with getting that power to market, as the best places for wind in China are not close to population centres, but over time this will probably be worked out. Canada faces a similar problem with the tar sands. Development of this resource is important to the economy, but it is the largest single source of industrial pollution in Canada. This creates a serious conflict of interest, with provinces like Alberta and Saskatchewan depending on oil development for prosperity, while the rest of Canada is pushing for cleaner sources of energy. In any case this article outlines China's long term goals with regard to future power sources. China Proposes 75% Increase To 2030 Renewable Energy Target https://cleantechnica.com/2018/09/27/china-proposes-75-increase-to-2030-renewable-energy-target/ Whether China reaches this goal remains to be seen and it will depend on a number of factors, not the least of which is energy storage.
  3. How do you know I'm telling the truth? Well, you could try checking the numerous mainstream media sites instead of relying on FOX and other Trump apologists. You could also consider the fact that over 30 of Trump's associates have been indicted on criminal charges and that Trump himself has been named in several of those indictments. You could also stop misidentifying the people you call "swampsters." Take a look at the people Trump surrounded him with when he first took office. Many of them were exactly the sort of people he vowed to get rid of and many of them are still parts of his administration. Trump in fact has done considerable damage to the United States. I don't think he has done much damage to Canada, but it is not for want of trying with his unnecessary tariffs. However, during his short two years this is what he has achieved: He has cozied up to the US' most dangerous enemy - namely Russia while at the same time alienating the nations he needs as US allies. He started an unnecessary trade war with China and the EU. He has harmed the average US citizen by encouraging organizations that are harmful to the US like the NRA and attempted to weaken social program like healthcare. He has implemented a disastrous tax policy which has the US National Debt growing at an unsupportable rate. Trump's only saving grace is the fact that he is so incompetent that he has failed to get done much of what he promised. He has squandered his first two years and now that the Democrats are going to take over the House his chances of getting anything else done are about zero. I think it might be useful to for you stop being a fan of Trump and look at what he has actually done. He is not a sporting team to be supported no matter how badly he performs. He is the president of the United States and should judged on his performance, which is pretty bad so far.
  4. I would like to see a link to any proof regarding foreign trust funds. I googled it and could not find any. And I am not talking about the Bronfman scandal.
  5. Let's face facts. The US national sport is baseball, Canada's is hockey. If the US really wants its ass kicked it could try to invade.
  6. The game seems to have covered almost every possible Canadian stereotype. I might just play it. I really like the tiny Zamnonis on the hockey rink.
  7. So it does, but that is certainly not the case world-wide. Canada is a small player so far as green tech is concerned, but the US, China, and India and moving ahead on a massive scale. Eventually Canada will catch up, after all Canada has numerous geographical factors that favour green energy. I know that the oil and coal industry is going to oppose this, but it is going to happen anyway, especially if Canada is going to make any effort at all so far as efforts to curb global warming are concerned. I think this article fully supports my position. Global renewable energy trends. Solar and wind move from mainstream to preferred https://www2.deloitte.com/insights/us/en/industry/power-and-utilities/global-renewable-energy-trends.html
  8. First of all this is a thread about Trump. Feel free to start one to discuss the deficiencies of Canada and Canadian politics if you wish. Second, it appears that the many Russian postings have completely taken you in. What you refer to as the lying liberal media is actually telling the truth and the sources you quote to support your views are little more than shills for Trump. You'll see the truth of this soon enough if you haven't figured it out already. Hardly a week goes by without some further revelation of Trump's misdeeds. This week it was the shutting down of his so-called charitable foundation, which it turns out was completely fraudulent. The details of Mueller's investigation are going to come out soon and it will almost certainly be devastating to the Trump cause. And you are still making the mistake of someone who has no argument, relying on name-calling and deflection in an attempt to make your point. I really do wish you would actually post something relevant and then we could have a proper discussion.
  9. Looks like Alberta is attempting to improve its image. Five new wind farms have been approved for southern Alberta, two of them on First Nations' land. Private sector to invest $1.2 billion in five new southern Alberta wind farms https://calgary.ctvnews.ca/private-sector-to-invest-1-2-billion-in-five-new-southern-alberta-wind-farms-1.4221834
  10. Kaepernick - Nike. Nike’s Colin Kaepernick ad sparked a boycott — and earned $6 billion for Nike https://www.vox.com/2018/9/24/17895704/nike-colin-kaepernick-boycott-6-billion One thing I like about Canada is that we can be patriotic without paying lip service to nonsense like kissing the flag or singing the national anthem. You probably can in the US too. Actually the US has declined quite a bit in world rankings so there are a lot of nations including Canada that are better places to live. However, we seem to be drifting off topic. This thread is about the Trump; not football players; not national anthems; and not the superiority or inferiority of other nations. You could start a thread on those topics if you wish.
  11. It appears to me that with his commercial endorsements endorsements Kaepernick has found another source of rewards. And it will be very interesting to see how the courts rule on the lawsuits directed against the NFL for banning him and a few other players simply because they refused to stand for the anthem. And nationalism is an outdated concept. It was useful when it brought together disparate groups as a united entity, but forcing patriotism down the throats of all citizens reminds me too much of the forced participation that was common in fascist and communist regimes.
  12. I have been wondering whether the Democrats will attempt impeachment or whether they will decide to wait until after Trump is out of office two years from now and he no longer has the presidency to protect himself. If I was the Democrats I would be prepared to wait. After all they have multiple other ways to make Trump's life even more miserable than it already is.
  13. You are probably right, but unfortunately for Trump his parade of lies is about to run into a House of Representatives that might require him to testify under oath. His continual attempts to distort the truth will not serve him well in that event.
  14. Here is an important issue that is often overlooked in the green vs conventional energy debate and that is the fact of job creation. In the last decade job growth in the green energy sector has far outstripped that of job creation in coal and oil. Almost certainly this trend will continue as more and more green technology projects are approved. This is an important trend as one of the concerns is that of job losses in the fossil fuel industry as the world turns more and more to green energy. It seems in fact that the creation of jobs in green energy will more than make up for job losses in coal and oil. Global Green Energy Job Count Approaches the 10 Million Mark https://www.greentechmedia.com/articles/read/global-green-energy-job-count-closing-in-on-10-million-mark
  15. If you cannot compare a current president with those of the past, then what basis of comparison is there? There has to be some yardstick by which an elected official can be measured if there are to be any standards at all.
  16. I could care less about the national anthem. I'm not an American. But here is a question for you. When a nation forces its citizens through shaming or threats to conform to what should be a voluntary ritual what does that say about the values of that nation? To answer your question about CNN - yes I do think some of the people on that network are total morons. That is why it is not my first choice for news. In fact the news content of CNN is remarkably low. There is more actual content on the CBC, CTV, and Global in half an hour than there is on CNN in three or four hours. What CNN seems to thrive on (probably because it is cheap) is three or four topics and then discussing them endlessly for the next few days. It seems that no matter who is hosting one of the CNN segments, the topic is pretty much the same with only the talking heads changing. Not only that, but the debates themselves are rather contrived with a left winger and a right winger going at one another while the host acts as a moderator. Unfortunately, after watching a few pf these debates it becomes obvious that both the speakers are simply part of the network, hired to dispute matters with one another.
  17. That is another implied insult. If you must know I have studied Canadian and international politics for over 40 years. I suspect I probably understand at least as much as you. BTW this in not the first forum I have been on, but I quit the others when they deteriorated into trolling sites. I was attracted to this one because its rules seemed to indicate that it promoted a civil exchange of views.
  18. I expect most of those findings could be applied to the general population. But is it normal for a president to lie an average of 10 times a day? Or to repeatedly mock and insult those he does not like? I can't remember any other president doing that or any Prime Minister either.
  19. Don't you find it interesting that Trump is the only president in history who seems borderline demented and who has made lying his normal form of communication? If you think this is normal perhaps you should study previous presidents. BTW "swampsters" pretty much describes the people Trump appointed and routinely associates with.
  20. I think we will have to agree to disagree. You apparently have little or no knowledge of the evidence building up against Trump. And you cling to a source of news that has been shown to be wrong on a multitude of occasions. As for the CBC, so what? There are a hundred other news sources giving identical reports. That you consider them all to be in error makes your judgement somewhat suspect.
  21. You apparently prefer insults in place of intelligent commentary. I note you posted nothing of substance to prove your mistaken point. I will give it all the consideration it deserves, namely nothing.
  22. Racist comments aside, I think you might be right about Singh. But Mulcair had a very forceful personality and was beginning to slowly become better known. Sometimes it makes sense to stay with the leader you already have despite a single election setback.
  23. I'm not sure why you are fixated on two FBI agents that are no longer connected to the investigation. Mueller is clearly the man in charge and he is a member of the GOP so the "evil Democrats" deflection does not work in his case. And I am not sure what the immigration question has to do with Mueller's investigation - in fact it has nothing to do with it. Mueller is investigating possible improprieties in the 2016 election not the refugee crisis on the US border. And you are wrong about the House of Representatives' subpoena powers. It can summon anyone to testify under oath and in public. It will really be interesting to see how Trump's associate's respond when they are required to testify before the House. And you appear to be completely delusional about news agencies reporting on Trump's possible misdeeds. We are talking about news sources from multiple nations around the world. They are not all left wing and in fact many of them like the BBC and CBC are well-regarded internationally. FOX is so weak that a few years ago when Roger Ailes was still in charge he openly admitted that so-called "FOX News" was in fact entertainment. But you are right about the fake news situation being out of hand. Unfortunately for Trump and his fans the fake news seems to be entirely generated by the President and his supporters.
  24. Only several hundred news articles that you could google just as easily as I can. Haven't you been watching the news? Trump has been directly implicated in the Cohen case. It is very likely that he would be joining his friend in prison if he wasn't president. In any case here is one of them. I suspect more will follow. The circle is closing on "Individual 1." Trump inaugural committee under criminal investigation, sources say https://www.cnn.com/2018/12/13/politics/trump-inauguration-spending-investigation/index.html
  25. I suspect you may be using FOX News as a source. All of the mainstream news channels (CBC, CTV, BBC, NBC, ABC, CBS, seem to disagree with you as do a majority of the world's leading newspapers. But we will see, especially once the House of Representatives begins to use its subpoena powers.
