  1. And yet Trump's appointees just voted in favour of planned parenthood. It is just possible that these conservative justices might actually put the law before their personal beliefs just as happens in most democracies. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/supreme-court/supreme-court-leaves-legal-victory-place-planned-parenthood-n945946
  2. I see you have given up on anything approaching an intelligent response. Chuckie? I didn't think a horror show puppet could vote. Meanwhile add farmers to the many groups hurt by Trump's policies. Some of them actually voted for him. Sad. Government shutdown looms over farmers as they face tough decisions https://www.jsonline.com/story/money/2019/01/04/government-shutdown-makes-already-rough-farm-markets-even-rougher/2475446002/
  3. I am wondering just how many active member Mapleleaf has. I was hoping when I joined that it would be more robust, but so far I have only seen about a dozen posters. Mind you I don't go into every forum since I am not interested in all of them.
  4. This is part of the theme - The Democrats are going to make Trump's life absolutely miserable. And Trump has not made matters better for himself by forcing a government shutdown. What the Democrats don't do to him he does to himself through his poorly thought out actions. You can take refuge in your Trump dreamland, but your idol is going down. A reader’s guide: 12 targets as House Democrats prepare to investigate the Trump administration https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2018/11/12/readers-guide-trump-administration-targets-house-democrats-are-preparing-investigate/?utm_term=.6d2dd878272b
  5. It sounds as if you think that the most incompetent president in history is actually helping the US. Facts would seem to dictate otherwise.
  6. And that has been a problem for about a century and a half. I don't see much in the way of change there.
  7. Unlike Obama I suspect Trump is not going to recover. He has simply offended too many independent voters. But that is what makes politics fun - its unpredictability.
  8. Here's the thing. Nothing you have posted in this thread detracts from its theme. Even if you were 100% right instead of the opposite Trump is still going down. There is just too much accumulated evidence against him. You may argue if you wish that all of that evidence is false, but too many other people have chose to believe otherwise.
  9. Sorry, but your "facts" are merely the opinions of a right wing news site and can just as easily be argued the other way, especially those events that Trump had little influence on, like the US economy. Just as an example many US manufacturers and farmers are lamenting the fact that they are shut out of the Trans-Pacific-Partnership. And here is another Trump mistake. The US national debt has climbed by two trillion dollars. It is now over 75% of GDP, a number that is usually considered a tipping point, and is slated to climb to 96% in the next 10 years. US national debt has increased $2 trillion since Donald Trump took office, new data shows https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/us-national-debt-2-trillion-donald-trump-presidency-deficit-treasury-congressional-budget-office-a8710546.html I also had to laugh at the last of Trump's supposed triumphs. " Restoring confidence in and respect for America " Respect for the US under Trump has taken a complete dive. http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2018/10/09/how-the-world-views-the-u-s-and-its-president-in-9-charts/ Also do you think that Trump can win a trade war against a country that does not have to respond to its citizens? All the Chinese have to do it wait two years and Trump will be gone. And I strongly suspect that if Mr. Schumer was negotiating with China he would have used more diplomatic means. China's history reveals that it will not be pushed around by other nations, not after what happened in the 19th and 20th Centuries. BTW increased military spending generally makes a country poorer, not wealthier. That is why no US ally spends the ridiculous percentage on defence that the US does. As the thread states, Trump is dying slowly and very painfully. Tossing red herrings into the topic does not it any way disprove it. He is stuck at 40% in the polls and dues not appear able to move that number. The last election showed that even active intervention by Trump did not stop a Democratic tide; in fact in many cases it may have helped it.
  10. But I do note that Ford maintains a plant in Canada and almost certainly given the way vehicles are made these days, many of the 150's parts originated in Canada.
  11. I am aware of the lack of Canadian-owned automakers - most nations have the same problem. However, if Canadians are going to be forced to buy a foreign product wouldn't it be nice if that product was at least partially assembled here? It does after all employ close to 200,000 people and use large amounts of Canadian resources.
  12. Here is a site you might want to check out. https://www.skepticalscience.com/argument.php
  13. Short of standing guard outside the embassy herself, I fail to see how Clinton could have prevented the death of the embassy guards. And you want an asshole? How about the one who posed in front of a "Mission Accomplished" banner? And I think you better check Obama's record on illegal immigration. Check the graph you will find Obama's term of office in there somewhere.
  14. Are you inferring that you would prefer Canadians to buy GM products made elsewhere?
  15. Tell me, do you have ant other racist theories to promote? Bye.
  16. I agree that so-called American democracy is in need of major reform. But it is not really a new problem; big business and the wealthy figured out how to corrupt the system more than150 years ago.
  17. So what you are basically claiming is that making the United States worse is helping his base. Interesting. And you do realize that some of the government workers whose paycheck he cut off are probably people who voted for him. And that the trade war with China is completely unnecessary as well as unwinnable, which at the same time also hurting his base. The really interesting thing is that everything Trump has done weakens him. And now he has to face a House controlled by the Democrats. I'm looking forward to 2021 when the USA and the rest of the world will be rid of him. Weird hey?
  18. It is actually hard to enumerate the many Trump failures considering how many there are. Thanks for the addition.
  19. Soros? You do realize that any reference to George Soros completely discredits your point? If your posts are not based on reality then they are hardly credible. Do you also realize that refugees make up only a small part of the total number of immigrants?
  20. I prefer to believe scientists who have devoted years of their lives to studying climate rather than a those who deny climate change because it suits them to do so. In any case here you are. What 2 Million Years of Temps Say About the Future http://www.climatecentral.org/news/2-million-years-global-temperature-20733
  21. Is Trump doing everything he said he would? He hired from the deepest part of the swamp he said he would elimination. Where is the Wall? Why is the stock market tanking? Why did his trade agreements with Canada and Mexico leave NAFTA almost unchanged? Why are US businesses still leaving the country? And I have to laugh at your Manafort comments - you pretty much admitted that Trump is a complete sleazeball.
  22. Clinton has been investigated several times by her GOP enemies. Their best efforts found nothing. In any case it is Trump and his cronies who are now being investigated. Clinton is old news and has nothing to do with Trump's crimes.
  23. Whether the languages are similar are not is quite beside the point. Non-immigrant Canadians were certainly not going to learn the multitude of languages and dialects immigrants brought with them. It might interest you to know that even the Irish were disliked and distrusted by many Canadians. The main thing is that they were different and that every immigrant group was different enough in language and culture and even dress to create suspicion and even hostility. And no, Canada did not just bring in immigrants to log or fish. Immigrants took jobs in a host of areas in both agriculture and industry. As an example the CPR was largely built by immigrant labour. And we do interview prospective candidates depending on the situation. Immigrants are also interviewed after they enter Canada. Also, do you really think immigration officials are unable to determine a valid university diploma or technical certificate? If so they should choose another profession. You are right about language being a barrier even for highly trained immigrants. That is why a number of skilled immigrants end up with menial occupations. Unfortunately, Canada no longer receives much in the way of immigration applications from English-speaking countries. You have a choice between qualified English speakers as immigrants which would not meet the necessary quota, or selecting those who speak only a little English. As for tradesmen I have had some experience in dealing with them in second-language training. Quite frankly you do not want tradespeople who are unfamiliar with Canadian codes;
