NAFTA negotiations.
paxamericana replied to Thinkinoutsidethebox's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Instead of waiting on lipservice you can just elect a government that will kowtow to trump I er mean accept a new NAFTA agreement like mexico. It would be the least painful way to resolve this trade dispute. But I suspect that trade isn't really the issue with Canada, its what the word i'm looking for....oh yeah pride. -

What's wrong with American hegemony and domination, I mean you're living in it now, since 70 years ago actually. Racism is not alive and well as you mentioned, i suspect this is due to a lack of historical context. We are no where near the era of civil rights nor are we in a Utopian society, something lefty keep comparing america to. This is the reason why the left keep thinking that America is not great, because they are comparing it to a non-realistic society while lacking any context of how much of a shit-hole the rest of the world really is. Trump is the direct result of unchecked leftist-ism, lefties railed against the most benign candidate the GOP offered up in 2012, Mitt Romney. It's your own fault for getting trolled by somebody like Trump. I'm just enjoying the heads exploding over things that isn't all that consequential while the intersectional left keep calling out conservative who don't agree with them homophobe, sexist, bully, racist etc... a double standard don't you think? Don't worry about me canucks I do that too. You're only getting attention from me because I find it amusing that there were 30 million extra people i could expound American propaganda to and get a reaction like the one I'm receiving. -

This is not the american way. We are a melting pot, we strip what ever previous cultural identity you may have and replace it with a uniquely american one. Obviously this isn't done overnight its over the course of1-2 generations. Look at the italian americans, german american, chinese american, korean american, mexican american, african americans... now they are all just american. This reduces intersectionality and builds a more unified country. Also americans do not look up to other cultures simply because we are the best, american exceptionalism is omnipresent. We think the rest of the world should learn from us and not the other way around. The constitution is basically the holy scripture of why america is as great as it is. It protects individual liberty, something other countries and government keep eroding away. Canadians are generally viewed as somewhat effeminate here in america. This is mainly due to your communitarian tendencies of caring about what others think. This is the opposite for us american. We simply do not care about what others may think of us. -

Struck a nerve? Wasn't trying to hide it...have you seen my profile. See it is me who find Canadians who are anti-american or anti-intercollusion fascinating. I mean Canada wouldn't have existed if it wasn't for you nay sayers. I'm just surprised Canada was't annex a long time ago. But i digress. Anyways trade should be used as a tool to integrate the Canadian economy further and further into America's hegemony. Then, then that's when we mail you your new driver liscense. This is America's final solution. -

Tis me the biggest interlocutors on this forum, I said there is no cultural difference. Look, from America's perspective, Canada is the Sudetenland of Germany, like Austria or more recently Ukraine to Russia. Canada has a population roughly the size of Texas, just let that sink in. So while you're advocating for this multicultural fabric of society made up by a hodgepodge of pseudo groups ... Canada is therefore not a country and should be absorbed. Free trade is free trade. There isn't this give and take relationship, free market should dictate such specialization based on comparative advantage not artificial trade barriers. -

Okay then why don't canada make that number lower? Obviously milk farmers who are now worth 5 million each is more important. -

Because its true? Trump isn't the one tearing the country apart, its snowflake lefty who thinks intersectionality should reign over politics. Ever been in the military, or any major team sport? They can tell you it ain't about you. Its about the team. Get over your self. Nobody cares about you enough to cause you all these percieved injustice. Also you can't fix past injustice. Find individual cases of where there is injustice and we will be right along fighting it. But don't tell me society failed you. -

Steel and alum is a national security threat because without it you can't build tanks and ships. Also its actually meant to target china's transshipment through canada that canada could have stop them selves but nooo. We didn't tariff everyone, not australia and Brasil. Just china and everywhere else china dumped their surplus on. Tariff for china's transgression is well deserved. Second its about time somebody trolled the snowflake intersectionality left. If agent orange has to be called upon then even better. -

Which is why canada should take trump's generous offer on free trade. He's offering to remove all barriers. You haven't address the question. Why don't canada accept this free trade offer. It benefits BOTH parties. As for national security, are you joking that's "insulting and unacceptable."-Trudeau .Is this the 1940s and germany is invading canada? Your neighbor is the most powerful country on earth. You think there is someone around willing to do a embargo or blockade food to canada. -

paxamericana replied to Thinkinoutsidethebox's topic in Canada / United States Relations
And yet trump was the one who offered, zero tariff, zero non tariff barriers ie supply management and zero subsidies. So why did canada reject free trade? Food is a matter of national security to who, the agriculture cartel of canada? Is there such a thing as national security interest of canada? I mean they are located next to the most powerful nation on earth. -

Hate it or love it but that's where the world is heading. Consumerism is king and so is financing. Its the natural progression for all economies, to consume. We all would be without jobs if it weren't for consumers. -

Or you could just buy it from us in america for a lot cheaper... you know where our warmer climate is more efficient for growing...a natural comparative advantage that canada artificially tried to subsidized through trade barrier and supply management at the cost of canadians like your self. Growing food locally is a relative word. My salad comes from the fields of mexico. -

Pipe dream. As we tried to explain, tariff hurt the rest of the world a lot more than it hurt us. International trade is only roughly 20 percent of our gdp. And most of that is import not export! America to the rest of the world: get over your self. -
Lets be pragmatic realist here, religious ideology and geopolitics are two very different issue that are often conflated. America is trying to partner up with whoever serves our geopolitical interest. As imperfect as Saudi Arabia is , much like Canada is an imperfect ally to the US, we will still do business and maintain diplomatic relationship. Some for better some for worse. Can you imagine the shock and confusion Americans had when we didn't receive an apology after you counter tariffed us. But in keeping with America's perfect record on non-intervention we didn't start a war over it. On a serious note, I don't think its fair to say the Trump administration is bowing to them. More like the reverse. " Last June, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates led an embargo by four Arab nations of Qatar, accusing the tiny, gas-rich nation of funding terrorism, cozying up to Iran and welcoming dissidents. Years of perceived slights on both sides of the conflict added to the bitterness. Mr. Pompeo’s predecessor, Rex W. Tillerson, spent much of his tenure trying to mediate the dispute, which also involved Egypt and Bahrain, but without success. The Saudis, keen observers of Washington’s power dynamics, knew that Mr. Tillerson had a strained relationship with President Trump and so ignored him, particularly because Mr. Trump sided with the Saudis in the early days of the dispute. But Mr. Pompeo is closer to Mr. Trump and thus a more formidable figure. And in the nearly 11 months since the embargo began, Qatar has spent millions of dollars on a Washington charm offensive that paid off earlier this month when its leader, Emir Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, had an Oval Office meeting with Mr. Trump during which the president expressed strong support for the tiny country. Fundamental Islam is incompatible with western culture. Why do you automatically assume I'm speaking about the entirety of Islam, where did i mention that I was on a crusade to erase Islam? Again, fundamental Islam is the issue here, which is why i brought up reform. The length of time it takes for an extremist to sort their views and behavior out is irrelevant to me. If they want to adopt a 7th century way of life and attack others for their beliefs then they can do that in heaven. I'm not in the business of reconciliation. I'm in the business of death. If they were serious about reform they wouldn't be advocating for violence as required by sharia law. Their extremist ideology played out on the streets of Raqqa and Aleppo for the world to see so don't pretend it won't happen when they take over the streets of London, New York and Toronto . Why would arguing against fundamental Islam automatically make you a white nationalist. This is the problem with identity politics that both right and left suffer from. The far right choose to adopt a identity of whiteys, as if that was a real identity. Same for the left, they chose to adopt a bi-lesbian trans-women identity, again as if that is an actually identity. You need to address the merit of the idea you are debating not the identity of said group or person. I will say that Canadians are generally better about this than Americans, which is why I like debating you canucks.

Tell that to the dairy farmer and farming cartel of Canada. You are right though, That is why its all flowing out of canada. -
Right and the reason we have so many different denomination in Christianity and Judaeism is because of compatibility? There was a huge witch hunt (Salem witch trial) going on in America in the 17th and all the way til the 20th century around the world. Many of those views are reformed by modern Christianity. Again I'm not talking about Muslim or Islam, I'm talking about fundamental Islam and those who are extreme enough that they are willing to blow themselves up in the name of their jihad. They are just as bad as christian burning people at the stake for alleged witchcraft. There is no room for compatibility with 7th century thinking in the modern era. Reform needs to happen and every major religion has gone through it. Also the fundamental Islamist have infiltrated Europe and are causing a lot of problem. Look up Britain. Their political system pandered to those extremist and created a huge mess.

Not from the data I've seen. The US clearly has the best economy, largest ever in fact. Those container coming from China is their dependence on trade not "domination" as you put it. America is not a import-export economy, only roughly 20 percent of our GDP is trade. America is a Consumer service based economy, making it pretty tough to fight in a trade war. Anyone who wishes to fight with us on trade will for sure be hurting a lot more than us. Look at Canada, a silly country that think it can win a trade war with the US. Mexico knows Canada want to burn so they decided to do business with the US despite Canada's demand for a trilateral agreement. China's growth is coming at a massive cost to its deficit. look it up. over 270 percent of their GDP is debt. America is hovering around 100. -

Not only is he doing it but he's doing it well. Look at all the heads exploding on CNN and MSNBC. It's great. Right because were punched in the face for the past oh i don't know...25 years.... by deadbeat allies and trade cheats like china, Canada and many others... The only one who is upset about it is the rest of the world for not being able to do anything when Trump decided to flex America's hegemonic power. -
1) I am impartial to religion, I am not impartial to stupidity and dumb ideologies that is incumbent of many religion including Judaism and Christianity. 2) ? ? ? If you're saying I don't know about the formation and history and even basic tenants of Judaism and Christianity then your assumption is wrong. I was referring to a basic human principle that all cultures "should" share in the Judeo Christian west. 3) Its about two opposing ideologies, reconciliation is not possible. Only reform is possible. The idea that we should pander to fundamental Islamic views because of identity politics is where the left made a huge mistake. We're not going to adopt barbaric sharia law as advocated for by fundamental Islam. 4) Bin Laden attacking us because of Israel, plain and simple. Though I would argue that Bin Laden's position against Israel is not totally unjustified, only his use of violence on innocent victims is unjustified. 5) Globalist Liberals are people who wishes to homogenize the world's political system whilst doing through the means of Free Trade. Yes both Republicans and Democrats are guilty. The left want to continue said status quo, they want open borders, they want a globalized world. The right is now opposing such views as shown by president trump draining of the swamp, establishment globalist agenda.

Uh.....................that's why everything is shifting to mexico... good luck on waiting out trump. I suspect a red wall this mid term. I would not craft trade policy on a bet just saying... Actually trump has about the same amount of support he had when he first came in. This basically means he's untouchable. You can sling mud at him all you want but people just don't care. His base is obviously still with him...over 87 percent republican support. One of the highest of any president during mid terms. Also the democrats are losing on identity politics to trump. There's been a building momentum of minority support to the Republicans/Trump party. " A largely under-reported Harvard/Harris Poll published last week found that Hispanic support of Trump has improved by 10 points, spoiling assumptions about group identity. In a world where the prevailing rhetoric of the Left is that Trump is anti-immigrant, the data "suggests that Hispanics may not be the entrenched liberal voting constituency that Democrats so often imagine," wrote The Washington Times' Stewart Lawrence. Furthermore, in the critical swing-state of Florida, GOP Gov. Rick Scott is surpassing his Democratic opponent among Hispanics in the senatorial race, according to a recent Mason-Dixon poll. But why would Trump and Republicans be seeing a significant upswing in Hispanic support? "Hispanics, like most mainstream voters, are waking up to post-2016 America. Unemployment among Hispanics has fallen to its lowest level in decades, and there’s little doubt that Mr. Trump’s pro-business policies are the reason," Lawrence wrote. Feel free to spend money in a drug war zone where the cartel own most of the government and businesses because you think America is bullying you. The stuff they do to people in mexico makes detroit look like child's play. -
1) I don't want to bring religion into this because I am impartial to all religion, atheist in fact. But many of the basic value we have here in the west are born out of a Judeao-Christian belief such as life liberty and pursuit of happiness. 2). I don't need to reason or treat them logically, they did not arrive to that medieval belief by reason. If you can't reason with someone who was never logical in the first place; to the point that they are wanting to die for their belief by attacking mine then I'm as much obligated to grant them that wish as them wanting to kill me. This is the fundamental fact that liberals forget when addressing fundamental extremist views ( not just religion by the way) . There is no reconciliation, we are not all just going to hold hands and sing kumbaya. These two views or irreconcilable. Islam needs to be reform from within much like what happened with Judaism and Christianity. Don't expect the Judaeo-Christian west to bend over backward to adopt medieval sharia law. One last point, Bin Laden attack America because we supported Israel. Plain and simple, not because he was hoping for a response as you suggested. Again a false pretense propagated by the globalist liberals who think every culture and religion should hold hands. "The expansion of Israel is one of the greatest crimes, and you are the leaders of its criminals. And of course there is no need to explain and prove the degree of American support for Israel. The creation of Israel is a crime which must be erased. Each and every person whose hands have become polluted in the contribution towards this crime must pay its price, and pay for it heavily." - Bin Laden https://www.theguardian.com/world/2002/nov/24/theobserver

OH i see, now its all about us as oppose to benefit only america. This is why you should engage more with those who have differing opinion, if nothing else it keeps us honest and more informed about one another's view. As opposed to calling for me to be ban as some have suggested on this forum or as BC has dug out about the Trudeau administration labeling of dissenters on nafta. -

Detroit's funding is only part of the issue, the other part is that Canada funded the bridge not from some outright altruism they funded it because more Canadians used that bridge to enter the US and also because it allows us citizen to spend money in Canada.
