  1. @PIK, but do the police officers beat you up for being white and exercising your rights like the guy above?
  2. I don't want to pay more taxes for that, Screw that. Our government needs to reduce the commutte times in the gta before they have parades down younge street.
  3. I think it was an inside job but who cares. One less reason to go to America, US government murders its own daily, more americans are murded by cops than murdered by terrorist or died in 9/11. Americans don't care about american lives why should we?
  4. PS. people are wrong here, the guy who said f-h-r-i-t-p was not fired, he was not even punished, the guy who was fired simply said he thought it was funny. He was being grilled for having a poor sense of humor and fired, seems pretty lame and excessive, people can't control their emotions, and shouldn't be fired for laughing at vulgar comments.
  5. I think people are making a deal out of nothing, people say dirty jokes like this all the time. I've seen lots of women saying it too. Its not just guys. Its vulgar but a little bit funny too. And the reason it happens to mostly female reporters is because most reproters on major outlets in the field are females and men don't whine about that.
  6. Has it ever occurred to you that a youth who would break numerous laws on assault and mugging and theft would likely not be deterred by a law on curfew. And good luck stopping them because kids look of different ages, some 16 year olds look 21, some 25 year olds look 15.
  7. I don't think all jews look white but most the canadian jews I have encountered look white. And most Canadian jews do identify as white, probably well over 90%. And if I had said jews were not white, what would you have said? "You're racsist!" LOL Look, its not just jews, everyone gets tax money back for paying for private schools. Alot of minorities like catholics, french, italians etc. aren't paying for their "public school segregation". So your issue is more with public school systems not being highly uniformly eurocentric of a particular brand across the board? So your argument is that by segregating blacks from each other is not segregation? You are dividing people on the basis of race? In fact it seems what passes as "integration" today looks alot more like segregation, where all the whites divide and move away from the non-whites and divide themselves into a host of publicly funded white cultural schools for catholics, protestants, english, french, italians, greeks, etc. If your definition of a ghetto is a group of similar people being around each other then your argument has no leg to stand to on. Plenty of whites and jews, and asians and other groups are living in ghettos in this country. In fact even the rich people are living in ghettos surrounded by mostly other rich in their rich private (and public) schools where they donate money. You think a school in forest hill or the other millionaire neighbourhoods are diverse by socioeconomic status? They aren't. You are using a false definition of segregation to avoid actually discussing the issue. And many other posters have done this too. It is called a strawman. You aren't claiming "the privately funded" jewish schools and muslims schools are segregation are you? O but because the africentric school gets public funding it is segregation right? So you are ok with private segregation in private schools just not in taxpayer funded schools? Even though the parents recover their tuition money and the schools get tax credits from the government and thus still technically partially funded by government? Girls and boys public funded schools not segregation, why? Then throw on the list of white cultural and religious schools getting public funding for their segregation along with the asians. Can you see why your argument is problematic here. I've been to schools in markham and the north east side of toronto that are chinese cultural, publicly funded schools with instruction in chinese and everything is chinese and asian centric. Yet this isn't treat as "segregation" why? I'd agree it was separation, but people have the right to voluntarily separate and identify with their own culture in Canada, freedom of association and part of the cultural mosaic to stick to your own kind. What are the jews who pay thousands of dollars to send their kids to jew-centric schools saying of this Now here is the kicker. You pretend jew schools and other private cultural schools AREN'T tax payer funded. UNTRUE. Those schools receive 50% funding for their students. A second category of private schools receives 35% funding. The last two categories are schools that wish to remain independent of government and therefore receive no government funding. http://www.torontosun.com/2014/09/29/bc-model-of-school-funding-makes-sense-for-ontario http://www.cbc.ca/ontariovotes2007/features/features-faith.html http://www.thestar.com/news/ontario/2009/08/21/private_schools_get_public_funds.html The issue has never been about private schools getting public funds. When you look at it critically, there is no good argument against africentric schooling. The opposition to it has and is and was and continues to be as it has always been, about a hatred of black people. The fear that if black students get into a school without anti-black racism, surrounded by other blacks, they'll succeed as a group, and be proud of who they are and surpass the other non-black students and the other races will get "left behind". So are all the seperate schools isolationism and sepeatism? I just don't understand the point, with over 80+ speciality and cultural religious publicly funded schools in the city of Toronto, I struggle to see what makes the one catered towards african canadian students so much worse than the ones catered to greeks or other groups. I never claimed all blacks support segregation, but the fact that the overwhelming majority of the 1 billion or so black people choose to live amongst nations that are majority black and neighbourhoods that are majority black should make it more than abundant they aren't interested in living around people who don't look like them. Its almost so obvious a truth that blacks prefer to be around their own kind as do most other cultures you simply lack the experience of what is so evident to others. http://www.amazon.com/Black-Kids-Sitting-Together-Cafeteria/dp/0465083617 It is something so evident, I'd have to conclude you simply didn't pay attention or didn't notice this or perhaps you yourself live in a jew ghetto or a white ghetto or a rich ghetto devoid of any real diversity so you only see a few token non-whites here or there. The irony of it all is putting the different groups in the same building ie "integration" breeds the most amount of segregation. Thus there is no benefit here, to having blacks in the eurocentric schools. The evidence shows they aren't interacting in general with non-blacks anyways. They are self segregating. Black students on white campuses are already alienated, segregated and isolated. national study on black college students "Black students who attend predominantly black schools tend to have higher average grades, a richer learnining environment, better relationships with faculty members, exhibit better cognitive development and display greater effort and engage in more academic activities than black students who attend white schools. In Black schools, black students show better social adjustment, have more extensive social support networks, show greater social involvement and engage in more organizational activities." Jacqueline Fleming "Sats and black students review of higher education 25, 2002 281-96, 287 Its not in black students objective interest to be in white schools. Schools should be aimed at results, not political correctness to make whites feel less racist. "White and black students were found to have better reading scores when their teachers look like them, the study showed. In addition, these students, including Asian/Pacific Island students, receive better math scores when taught by teachers sharing their race. Anna Egalite, a postdoctoral fellow at Kennedy School of Government in Harvard University who co-authored the study, told The Huffington Post that the study adds to the increasing evidence that diversity in the teacher workforce is essential. " http://themartinezfoundation.org/news/ Funny, you make statements that require no proof, they are unchallengable facts. I am the only one who has to provide proof. It is not a fact the majority don't want special schools, the fact is the majority send their kids to special schools. From the french to the english to the catholic. Come to think of it, there aren't any non-speciality schools. even the english public school system is shocker, catered to english people. The issue is one of fairness here. You can't have 6 greek schools in toronto, a german school board, a roman italian catholic school board, ukranian catholic schools etc. but then turn around and get mad when another ethnic group (african and carribeean) open one for their culture. If the blacks came from Greece, and all greeks were black people, this wouldn't be a thread, because greeks have their own schools and you haven't raised issue with it. Only the black one. This is the very definition of racism. You oppose africentric schools solely because its majority participants are blacks. The Greek school is also publicly funded. The facts from multiple studies I provided above clearly show blacks best perform around their own kind away from predominantly white institutions.
  8. Maybe they do, do this, and it clearly has negative effects on white children with self esteem issues and all particularly the whole white male bashing thing. Two wrongs don't make a right. Bashing whites isn't astep up from bashing blacks its just another step further back. But at least when the white children go to schools, they see positive white examples with white teachers, principals, whites in all the textbooks who have achieved things of significance and positive white self reinforcement and the rules at the board level are written by white people who sharre their common white culture, most of whom aren't making them guilty for being white. They turn on the tv and see a news reporter who is white like them reporting on the prime minister and opposition leaders all of whom are white. They show some random doctor on a health report and he is white, they show a super hero and the super hero who saves the day is also white. At the end of the day, they aren't teaching whites to be victims like they are trying to teach blacks to accept second class citizenship and perpetual victimhood. And if they do cast a black it is usually a villian or dies in the first 5 minutes or is portrayed in some other negative light.
  9. Why would it matter if you are a minority. As far as the treatment of blacks go in Toronto, the whites are on average better than the arabs, chinese, indians, jews and koreans and other races who have been trained from birth to hate blacks in their own respective cultures. At least the white people pretend to be believe in a degree of equality in principle. You want to hear what chinese people think just go and ask a chinese child about black people, you'll hear all the real opinions of what chinese canadians think of blacks. And it isn't positive. It is far worse than what the white child would say, guaranteed. On the other hand, at least the chinese are more honest in that they openly admit their hatred of blacks outside corporate settings.
  10. Mr. Rue, I understand you don't want black people going anywhere, this has been the view of white supremacy, for a very long time. Note, one doesn't have to be white to embrace white supremacy. Plenty of black DO to. And just because one is white, doesn't mean one is a racist or embraces white supremacy either. Segregation doesn't equal seperation. Seperation is the voluntary seperation of equals. Like canada and the usa. Segregation is an unequal racialized sytem which only pretends to be equal while offering preferential treatment to one race over another. You are in favour of the latter, I the former. You want to sepearate blacks in Canada from one another and force "integration" violating their rights to freedom to assemble with other blacks in the same school under an afrocentric program. What could be more divisive on race than that? I want proof most people function as well as home cultures. this is counter to most people's experiences. Other minorities aren't treatted the same way as blacks. In fact no two minority groups are treated alike. As if blacks should be thankful to be in canada, a nation who enslaved their ancestors, and discriminated against them openly until the 1980s? Gimme abreak. Most cultures in Toronto hang around their own and stick to their own, with their own cultural schools and systems. Blacks were the only ones who made any efffort to integrate and have been hurt very badly by it and screwed very badly by it. They have been attacked psychologically and made into victims. When all you do is show blacks as slaves in schools and whites as conquerors, what does that tell black students? You are nothing. I note jews have their own jew schools. I don't see you saying to close them down. Is this not a case of do as I say not as I do? Seems quiet hypocritical for jews to be pushing black students into a system where jews don't even want their own children doesn't it? Blacks are very weak in the city. 10% of the population and the only black city councilor is a white supremacist. What could possibly be weaker than that? Blacks need seperation because no other race will treat them fairly in schooling, they've all been trained to hate blacks since births in their respective cultures. And it isn't just whites, chinese, indians, koreans, italians, jews, whatever race you want to name they hate blacks, except maybe aboriginals. You want to see what they do to blacks in Israel right now? And I am suppose to believe the same jew beating black jews in israel is going to give a black christian a fair shot? And its not just jews, arabs, chinese, you name it are just as bad. I can understand why the Quebecers want to seperate. If the white english won't even treat a white french fairly, then how can a black ever hope for a fair chance? Blacks are not treated like the other minorities, they are widely dispised by the general non-black population, especially here in Toronto. While Canada may work well for chinese or koreans or jews and arabs, it isn't working well for blacks. Not the school system, not the employment, not anything really. The school endures wide support from blacks and has a waiting list. Seperating blacks from other blacks to make them a perpetual minority is ALSO segregation. And many blacks have falesly bought into the idea that the same whites and mainly non-whites who call them racial slurs are going to treat them like humans. Which is a fantasy that more and more blacks wake up from each day. 30 years ago there was no talk of africentric schools. What changed from then to now? Blacks who've gone through the system are waking up and say wait a minute, I got screwed here. well I am not letting my child get screwed like I did. Afrocentric schools. Hatred doesn't go away in the real world. Blacks in Toronto are still attacked and face widespread anti-black hatred in the city as desmond cole elegantly points out in the torontoist. The problem becomes when gays, aboriginals, blacks and a host of other minorities start dropping out and getting kicked out of school due to racist behaviour. At least when they are adults they will have better abilities to deal with anti-black racism. As students they are near damn defensiless from racial attacks at such a vulnerable age. Black students shouldn't have to be worrying about being racially attacked from teachers, students and anti-black curriculums erasing their history and calling them subhumans and slurs, they should be worrying about school work and having fun with other black kids. No one is denying racism will go away. By removing yourself from an anti-black toxic environment the hope is you'll have enough self esteem by the time you are an adult that you will be able to defend yourself against the racism and not drop out of school because you'll have already graduated. The cultural mosaic is by definition "isolated ghettos" you got the french ghetto, the catholic ghetto, the girl school ghetto etc. The cultural moasaic means you can be a jew and live in your jew neighbourhood, with a nice jew wife and 4 pretty blonde hair blue eyed jew children and go to a nice jew school and be surrounded by other jew like you and not have to worry about being attacked by some white supremacist. Andblacks want the same. The cultural mosaic is not a black kid going to a white run school where they wave confederate flags and beat him up and call him the n-bomb and the white teachers and principal turns a blind eye or try to get the white attackers off easy. If that is the cultural mosaic, most blacks want no part of it. Jews are not blacks. It isn't reasonable comparison at all. Most people can't even tell a jew different from a white gentile. Further even if you did, the stereotypes is jews, chinese, indians are good in schools and blacks are bad. So what is the teacher going to go into that class and do. Assume the black kid is bad, jew chinese and indian good. Tamil is bad. Pakistani good. Latino is bad along with portuguese, but the italian is good. I think blacks are tired of being victims and want control over their own education. They don't want people who hate them in control of their children anymore.
  11. The politicians might hate each other but put a bunch of koreans and chinese in a room and guess who'll they'll sit with, not the black people! You aren't black, the eurocentrick system doesn't attack you in the same manner. And I never said there aren't exceptions to racist systems. There are always exceptions to racist system, just like there were jews in the nazi army but we all know nazis hated jews. How did some jews perform well under stalinist racist regime? There are exceptions. an exception to a racist system isn't the rule. Separation is not segregation. I do wish to separate the races in Canada, not segregate them. No its not apartheid. Any more than all girls schools are apartheid and segregation. Or all catholic schools, or all jew and muslim or all french or all english or ukranian. Or greeks, or italians schools. or aboriginal and irish and english school. or the chinese and indian. Come to think of it, black was the only race in toronto without its own school. No wonder their performance was so bad. Whites say blacks should be more like the jews and asians, you know those good model minorities. But the asians and jews have their own schools. You are the real racist here. You don't want blacks to have any freedom or agency over their own affairs, you just want to oppress blacks. And most white Canadians endorse apartheid, they move out an area once it becomes "too ethnic" a good area means a white majority area in their minds usually. No I have no idea because it isn't patronizing it is truth. You are being politically correct. I never said all blacks are idiots you did. Blacks can't identify with non-blacks whose culture is different, most people can't function well in a DIFFERENT culture. No one is supporting segregated schools. Although seperate schools are widely supported. Or why don't you go back to your country? Why does it matter?
  12. The solution to this is obvious but political correctness will not the truth to be spoken. 1. Women should serve in women only parallel units. This will eliminate all sexual misconduct issues except the few homosexual ones 2. We give young men and women every weapon on the planet, often hop them up on drugs and alcohol before they go into battle, tell them to break all of societies taboos, don't kill, don't shoot, don't steal, don't murder, don't violate a host of constitutional rights like searching without warrants etc. Then we get surprised when they break the only taboo left on raping. Gimme a break. If you are going to arm someone to the teeth, supply them with every drug known to man, hop them up on them and send them into battle to murder everything in sight, take whatever you want and kick down any door and blow people's brains out you can't be surprised when they rape a few women along the way. War and rape have gone hand in hand since the days of cave people.
  13. Your post is full of lies, that being said BC is owned by the chinese and is about to be the next province of china, of course you have a balanced budget, if you didn't the emperor of china would slice your pee pee off.
  14. The public sector competes with the private sector for highly skilled workers, it is all the same market. Further while not everyone who goes into private industry becomes rich, anyone with enough drive to do two degrees and is willing to sacrifice the time certainly can. What usually ends up happening is people TURN DOWN promotions because they don't want to miss out on their social life. You are grossly mistaken, when they throw up a condo where houses use to be, you think no one is living in there with kids? Sick days have been stripped down to 10 days which is nothing if you really get sick. I don't know any professional job absent of sick days. You might say the guy flipping burgers. But Teacher's aren't of that background they are far more educated, you have to compare them to similar groups. Carrying sick days is existent throughout much of the public sector and often because what happens is people are inclined to not get sick yearly for short period but rather get sick in one long period once a decade. Ie. fall and break your hip, or shock, get cancer or a heart attack. 10 days ain't shit if you are on chemo or if you had a double bypass, that is why the union negotiated carrying them forward, because the most common diseases teachers get, tend to make them sick for longer periods. Teacher's pay a huge chunk of their salary into pension and it is not government funded. In fact it was the Harris government WHO FORCED the teacher's pension plan to invest its money which it does creating and supporting hundreds of thousands of jobs in the province. While no pension fund is fully funded, not even PRIVATE SECTOR MANULIFE FUNDS, this is because the funds themselves generate a return! Its not "Taxpayer" money, as if teacher's aren't tax payers. Teacher's can't get EI, so how about they stop paying ei to be fair? I can't speak to bc teachers, I am speaking of Ontario teacher's. Ontario teacher's don't have DB, they run their own pension fund, which is the largest investor and fund in the nation. Teacher's aren't eligible for EI, and when you have no contract and aren't working, that sounds alot like unemployment to me. Teachers only have 2 months of vacation because the provinces is too cheap to pay them another 2 months salary. There indeed a shortage of highly skileld teacher. The internet is a wonderful resource, and if you cannot find that, then you need to practice. Yes there are alot of new teacher's coming out the pipeline, many are highly skilled and talented. But when they go start supply teaching, they meet other teacher's learn of the low salaries, poor working conditions, and how they'll lose most their hearing by 60 because of decades being spent in loud classroom, how students can assault them and they have to sit their and take it and how a single false accusation can get them fired, imprisoned etc. Oh and you cannot even record yourself to prove you didn't commit a crime because its invasion of student's privacy and how the job has been degraded from a good career to a dead end job. so what happens, they leave.... in droves. The creame of the crop exit. Those who come from hard family situations and cannot afford to switch careers or cannot cut it in private sector stay. There isn't a teacher shortage. You can always find someone willing to go infront of the classroom, even the janitor. There is a HIGHLY SKILLED teacher shortage. The best teacher's are being sucked up by the private sector. As for the proof: Well that will surely get the best and brightest. http://www.theepochtimes.com/n2/canada/overwhelmed-canadian-teachers-quitting-in-droves-350533.html Teaching might look rosy from the other side, but it isn't at all. https://www.greaterteachers.com/ednews19.php So who do you think the 18% in the first year and 30% over 5 years is leaving. Do you think it is the best ones who are saying, you know I can do better than 100k in 10 years and crummy benefits in a dead end job. I could go become an accountant and make an average of 130k in 5 years with far less stress and workload. Or is it the bottom of the barrel who can't cut it in private sector? If they leave they know they can't find a job, so of course they'll stay in teaching. The low wages and bad benefits are just the most effective way to cull out the best teacher's. And its quiet effective. Our education system is going down the drain, when you run out the best people, you aren't going to be putting the best infront of your kids. And when you put less than the best, you cannot expect the best results. Employers don't care, they'll hire the kid from china or finland whose parents spared no expense in educating their child and who turned out better and can do math unlike your canadian child, who can barely add because his teacher wasn't that smart, didn't grasp the concepts as well as the teacher you ran out the system with low pay, low benefits, bad working conditions etc.
  15. O so when a recession comes, your children don't need education, you just pull them from school? Its not that other jobs don't deserve what they get, it is that teachers are grossly underpaid. The economy is in a recession everything is in decline. That being said it depends where in the province, we are still growing, in toronto and gta the demand is higher than ever, they put up a new school all over the gta.
  16. Has it ever occured to you, not everyone is reporting their incomes? Teacher's don't have 1 degree, they have 2. How many canadians have 2 degrees? Teachers are among the lowest paid public sector employees and have less benefits than private employees. I have more sick days than teachers, and I work in finance. teacher's pay their own pension, so its not a benefit, teacher's are not even eligible for half the government benefits. The highly skilled teachers certainly can and do make the big dollars like Jack Ma ceo of alibaba. it is true the quality of teachers has gone down in the past 10-15 years, and many of them that is all they can land. I didn't deny it but said precisely that. And the reason for that is because you've gutted their wages. Who in their right mind who would want to teach now?
  17. Yes they are getting the jobs, particularly the male teachers (who tend to have the highly needed business and stem backgrounds), they go into teaching work a few years but end up finding out how low the salaries are compared to the private sector. they talk to other teachers who tell them yeah I been working here 20 years and am still making what I made 10 years ago even though I work hard. Most male teachers who are young and talented, look at that and say screw that, you mean I can work a job with less stress, better hours and make twice as much. No one who is a teacher is telling their kids to teach. That is very telling, they tell them to do anything but teach, even the plumber and trades people who work for the board are earning more than the teacher. The waitlist is nil for no industry even for highly employable people. The people who can afford to teach for charity are quiet limited. How many rich people do you know? Now how many of them want to work a highly stressful, demanding job with low pay. I am not saying that education is the most valuable resource we have. If we want the best teachers, we have to provide at least a COMPETITIVE pay. If the accountant, banker, lawyer, plumber, electrician, bus driver, cop, and fireman all have better long term career outcomes and pay, what do you think the highly in demand people are going to do? Teach for charity or become a plumber making $500 per job? We have been shedding these teachers for a while. The good teachers are still stuck in the system, but it won't stay that way for long, they are retiring out. The teachers use to be the A students who loved school and were top of the class. now with pay cuts, the main people going into teaching aren't like that anymore and its going to get worse. I am not sure why you want to ruin your children's education so badly. Come to think of it, why would you rather pay $7000-$12000 to a private school when paying teachers slightly more money say $110k or $120k which wouldn't even translate as $1000 more on your tax bill to get the best teachers.
  18. I never said ANY teacher. The mere fact the pay is so low and so below market, and the general lower in the quality of teachers that you claim to witness, is proof enough. The ironclad pension which they pay for with their own money. As for benefits, those are all pretty much gone. Mcsquinty took them away. I don't know where you got this idea that because someone chose to become an English major or minor, and AFTER completing their degree chose to get a second or 3rd degree in education, would thereby have no skills outside of teaching. So if I for instance with a business undergrad but an anthropology minor, chose to go into teaching and went to teacher's college and then taught students for 5 years. You are suggesting that I'd not have immediate transferable skills? Even if I got other job offers to work in banking? I could only teach and ym life would be stained forever? I agree that I'd likely need some upgrading in whatever industry I chose to go back to just to get current which may take 6 months. But it isn't like I can't do anything other than teaching. Teachers actually have many highly transferable skills that are in large demand, they have good communication skills, writing skills, management, they have to manage a class full of unruly children who their parents cannot even manage half the time. They have to be well organized and meet deadlines for large projects, they must be well co-ordinated, they have to be able to motivate students to do work they don't want to do, and follow a myriad of rules and laws and most of them have a passion for learning and teaching. Do you understand their are people who are called corporate trainers and motivational speakers who train adults and receive 3-4 times the pay as teachers for doing near identical work? Teachers also have the option to go and tutor in the private sector where they can charge anywhere from as low as $20 to $200 an hour PER STUDENT depending on what the subject is. A teacher who is tutoring mcat or lsat or gmat or sat classes can easily rake in much higher than that depending on how popular and skilled they are at marketing their services. Some teachers may charge 5 students $30 an hour for a small class and effectively earn double their wage and work half the hours.
  19. Not just stem, do you not want to attract the best english teachers and the best history teachers and the best social science teachers? No I am also talking elementary school teachers. In fact often learning at that stage is even MORE IMPORTANT because if the child learns to read well and has a solid math foundation, they will often keep that throughout life. People who teach 6 year olds how to read may very well indeed have the potential to command very high salaries in the private sector. My mother was a vice president of a major hotel chain in europe before entering teaching. She certainly did have a high paying job onto which she could have chosen to ride out although vice president is not a stem job. The teacher's who want to make a difference quickly learn they can usually do it most with younger kids. Why? Because less of a gap. A 8 year old might just be 1 or 2 years behind in his reading or math skills. He may just need to learn integers and multiplying. But when you get a 15 year old who can't multiply negative numbers or do math (yes they do exist), its pretty much too late to help him/her. They'd have to catch up on 8 years of math if not more. Teachers are not miracle workers. Collective bargaining is a constitutionally protected right. and whenever you exercise your rights, you are never wrong. The reason you have such a huge gap between teaching skills was already explained to you, it is due to LOW PAY. As I said, you get this gap because only two people can afford to teach. The rich and/or highly skilled who are in education for charitable purposes and often come from well off families. The lesser skilled teachers who are in education often due to limited skill sets or opportunities but still have an interest in teaching. They often come from middle class or poor backgrounds, and aren't the most highly skilled and will take whatever pay is there. They tend to be the lower quality teachers. As for complaining about teachers getting the same pay but having different skills so what, this occurs in the private sector frequently. I worked in investment banking, some analyst were lazy and were just put on the team because daddy was a client. Didn't know their ass from a hole in the ground and had a solid c transcript if they even graduated high school. And they got the exact same pay as the guy who worked their butt off. And there was no union. Ah ah ah, not so fast, its not like you get hired full time right away, its more like supply 3-5 years at 30k-40k a year in a major city near poverty levels before you get your 54k. Even in a sales job, you'd be earning 100k after 5 years. The teachers who can afford to leave, and who are most skilled are slowly leaving. This is why there are deep shortages don't you worry. We are already seeing signs of the anti-teacher policy showing up in Canada. Lack of skilled works, lack of stem workers, thus the need for large scale immgiration of foreigners who can do stem jobs, disenfranchising canadians from good jobs they should be doing had we not cheaped out on education. Many teachers leave teaching and never look back. The few sticking around are the ones with bills to pay and who can't quit due to having a mortgage and kids in university. Like I said, you couldn't pay me 100k or even 200k to work in such shit conditions. Their are so many ways you can make 200k in the private sector a year, I am frankly surprised that teaching is capable of drawing any but the least skilled barely literate applicants. Bear in mind when I was a child, the teacher use to be the straight A student who loved school. Now it is changing to the B- student who was just eh about school. You'll see the long term result of canadian education decline. It is likely why are politicians get dumber every year. Where the chinese are spearing no expense to educate their kids, they'll spend the 30k to go to state school in us and pay double the tuition. We will fall behind because we are cheaping out on our kids. You get what you pay for. Pay low wages to teachers and cut their benefits, less than a bus driver and high school drop out cop. Then expect to get low quality teachers who don't give a rats ass about your kids. I volunteered in grade 12 in an after school program teaching kids chess and the noise levels, the unrulyness, no thank you, you couldn't pay me enough money to stay there. My working conditions are far superior to any teachers and I made 50% more than their top pay grade in my first year of work with far less stress. Because they have a constitutionally guaranteed right to collective bargaining and 51% + have chosen to exercise that right. Why do other people's rights make you so angry?
  20. Good question, there still remain shortages of teachers in french, technology, sciences, math and business and believe it or not religion. The "Too many" teachers usually all come from the psychology, sociology, history and anthropology backgrounds. You know the ones where there is no private market direct competition. Its not these people can't do well in the private sector, they'd just usually have to spend 6 months to a year upgrading and learning the industry. and yes teachers do have high paying jobs to fall back on, but a fall back job isn't instantaneous. So for instance, a psychology major may have to take an hr course to get a job in hr or organizational behaviour. A anthropology major might have to catch up on courses in hotel management to get a job as an assiatant manager at a hotel and in 3 years make manager and in 10 years maybe regional manager. In which case they are earning several times of what teacher is earning. And that doesn't count all the ways business people double dip. Like when the hotel manager has his wife's catering company cater all the hotels event at a nets another 200k in yearly salary on top of the 150k the company is paying him. Or when he has his adult son open up a cleaning company and makes them the exclusive cleaner for the entire chain in the region and makes another 500k a year. Frankly, I am surprised anyone with a business degree would go near a school, when having a business degree and half decent work effort would get you promoted multiple times in any major company (as most people slack off and do just enough to not get fired) Usually what we are finding why there is a huge shortage of male teachers (which is problematic because the boys lack role models in the classroom and lack of male shaporones etc.) is because they come, work a few years, supplying, maybe full time. and then realize that they are being underpaid compared to virtually every other public and private sector worker, and they take their stem or business or tech or french degree and leave for the private sector. And your kids are losing out. Why would someone with a physics degree or math or business degree even want to teach when they can go work for some hedge fund have better working conditions and 3 times the pay? So what ends up happening? Schools draw the worse teachers and least competitive people in the stem, business, foreign language and religious areas. So what do we end up with. Kids who lag behind in math, stem, business, foreign language, and ethics and morality. So we become comparatively uncompetitive on the whole as an economy. We need to bring in immigrants to do the jobs our children cannot do, because they weren't educated properly because we cheaped out on teacher salary. Then our kids grow xenophobic a foreigner is getting a job over them. But the employers don't care, if canadians aren't qualified they'll hire only foreigners.
  21. The teacher's had their right to strike taken away by the government. They didn't get essential worker pay in exchange. on that fact alone being transformed into essential workers should give them a substantial pay increase. fair enough but there are people less educated commanding substantial premiums. The education sector is competing with the private sector for the most talented teachers and individuals. Why would any sane individual who is highly skilled give up a 140k starting investment banking job on bay street to go and teach kids with a fraction of the salary? It doesn't even make sense. Hence you end up drawing good teachers who are from rich families and can give charity or medicore teachers who can't hack it in the private sector. I want the best education for my children, and I know you can't get the best workers by paying them half of what they can get in the private sector. The teachers haven't gottena raise in over a decade. Thus through inflation they've actually received a 10 year pay cut. Any teacher with over 10 years experience has been on a 10 year wage freeze. Other highly educated professionals with similar education qualifications in government are constantly being promoted and receiving pay raises. Teachers are the only one who get screwed in this manner. Teacher's aren't striking against you, they are striking against low wages in high cost cities. If you want your children to be educated by the best teachers available it doesn't work to pay teachers lower than police, because the young highly talented teachers aren't in the business of charity (very few highly talented people are) they will just leave for more reaonable paying jobs. Why become a teacher and deal with unruly violent children when you can go drive a bus or be a cop with a gun to shoot anyone who resist your orders. Better yet why not just go work for 3 years do an mba which is shorter than teacher's college and then in 5 years be earning well into the 150k+ range. Or why not go spend 3 years and become a ca and in 5 years be earning an average of 130k and not have to deal with unruly and complex school issues. It takes 1-2 years of teacher college + undergrad degree + 3-5 years supply teaching before you even find full time work. And even if you work your heart out, the people with less qualifications still take home more money. The average CA who is 45-55 is making 170k. You'd have to be an idiot to go into teaching. Screw that, you couldn't pay me 100k to teach a class full of unruly kids and workovertime writing reports cards. You'd have to literally pay 150k to attract away talent from the private sector to improve teacher quality. And if you are going to say teachers don't deserve 150k because my childs teacher stinks, fine, maybe they do stink and don't deserve that, but do you want the best teacher or the stinky teacher teacher. Because highly talented people know what they are worth and aren't going to be low balled into difficult jobs with difficult working conditions and LOWER pay then the private sector.
  22. People want their children to be well educated, yet are willing to pay a ged education cop more than a teacher with 2 degrees. The teachers have been getting a raw deal for quiet some time. The government won't even allow them to go to arbitration because they'd likely get a 20% salary raise. We are talking a province where bus drivers, firemen, train operators, and police men, all of whom are government workers requiring no more than a high school education who clear 100k or more. Whereas the police just got an 8% raise over 4 years and starting salary of $98,000, the teachers are getting half that starting, all benefits cut in half and told they should be happy, work more hours and get less pay. Some might say well a teacher isn't getting shot at, except when students bring guns to school, and they don't have any bullet proof vest. And I sure like to hear the explanation for why a bus driver ought earn more than a teacher. But it isn't even necessary. The government would lose in arbitration.
  23. The random issue is complex. The cops racially profile. They stop people based on their race and tell them they are being stopped randomly. So you see where this becomes confusing. Cops pretend they stop people randomly to get around racial profiling and other profiling (gender, sexual orientation, etc.) laws. The people being profiled damn well know, this isn't a random stop and they are being targeted. This is why some people want to stop "random" stops. If you are going to stop someone, they say you better stop someone who is doing a crime or doing something suspect. You are correct on the silent point. But cops in Canada still say it. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/under-arrest-what-are-your-rights-1.960223 Carding is actually the same issue. It is the issue of being stopped by police and forcing to produce ID or they make you think you are under arrest. And you correctly stated once arrested YOU MUST ID YOURSELF. People like me want this type of ambiguous behaviour to come to an end. If a person is committing a crime or breaking the law, yes fine arrest them. But if the cop didn't see them do a crime or has no clear reasonable evidence, like a blood fist walking away from a broken window with a hole in it, then leave them alone. The problem with the police looking for a suspect with such a generally vague description and demanding ID from non-criminals is multi fold. 1. Legally, no one has to produce id nor even carry it. 2. Even if they did have ID, it would not allow them to catch the suspect in 99.9% of cases. Because most people who seen the crime to give the suspect description, do not know the name of the criminal first and last who did the crime. 3. Even if the cop did find the criminal this way, he is likely to just lie about his name. 4. Is the cop searching for a name or is he searching for a suspect description? It is unclear how the cop gaining an ID of an innocent by-stander or person in the vicinity is going to allow him to solve the crime? 5. I am just sitting here thinking. Do cops in black countries use ybm as a suspect description and how useless the racial description would be when 99% of the people in the vicinity are black. And if we are for the most part more progressive and advanced than the majority of black countries, or we purports to be (ie sudan or somalia) then how come there police can catch black criminals without racial policing and ours can't? I'd also add, the cops almost never tell people they are investigating a crime of someone who looks like them. Because if they did, most non-criminals would probably provide ID, even though they didn't have to.
  24. Nope and Nope, they don't like when you ask them who they are. This. First they are violating you rights. Second you are being asked a series of highly intrusive questions from a government agent that we know for a fact (at least in Toronto) will be stored in a secret database. Thirdly, they aren't just asking your name and then off. they are recording the answer to all these questions and have a body recorder on them(which is why they are able to remember the conversations so well) in which they will put in the database at a later time and put a series of associations. So if your girlfriend use to date a loser 5 years ago who robbed a bank. And the database shows you walking together. Guess who doors they are going to be knocking on as a "possible associate" of the bank robber? What happened to the right to remain silent? The police should know who they are looking for. Not be harassing random people walking down the street committing no crime. It is harassing behaviour from an out of control bloated government who has shown they are willing to take any right away we let them. There is no law requiring one to carry ID, but you have a right to remain silent. So why should anyone be required to BREAK their own RIGHTS just to comply with some government agent who is trying to enforce his whims which aren't even a law! Further it is intimidating, because the carding practice involves a government agent trained in lethal force with a barrage of deadly weapons asking for your id and followed by a series of intrusive questions. Any of which could implicate you in something potentially criminal which you likely have no involvement. Ie. where are you coming from, bank, o there was just a robbery at the bank, let me search you person and vehicle now you are under arrest for suspicion of theft. House, or there was just a break in, in a house 3 days ago put your hands behind your back. worse of all if the officer mishears or believe you change your story or lie then he can hold you for suspicion when you may have just been confused by his gonzo style questioning. It is also highly stressful, because the carding type id practices are purposely designed to cause the person to believe that they are not free to leave (ie being detained or under arrest) when usually this is simply not the case. The problem is if the person were to attempt to leave and not answer questions then the officer might really arrest them. It would be like saying you have the right to a lawyer but if you try to call your lawyer the cop will arrest you and beat you just for exercising your right and nothing else. What is the point of rights if we can't use them. That isn't a right, it is a temporary privilege that the government can take back on any suspicion or whim no matter how ill founded or baseless. And bear in mind, with all the criminals out there, there is a description of some wanted criminal fitting any possible description you could imagine from 6'5 red headed ginger to chinese midget. The cop can trump up charges and say you fit any description in the system. Also it is offensive. Some of us come from countries where less free government have used this as a way to harass civilians. And some ethnic minorities ie. those from south africa may take offense or think they are being racially profiled AGAIN by people asking them for their freedom papers to walk on the street or in the white side of town. The police know who the nastier ones are. They have multiple interactions with them, and often are on a first name basis with the career criminals and can spot a serial trouble maker from a mile away. They know if you are in your 20s or 30s and they haven't seen or heard of you before that you probably aren't a criminal.
  25. Yeah testosterone male teens testing their limits of what is suppose to be your legal right to not talk to police if you haven't done anything wrong. This is the problem, in Canada, exercising your legal rights is portrayed as testing the limits. Why isn't it the police who are viewed as pushing the boundaries of a free society with their carding practices which are illegal, arbitrary, harassing and seemingly gustapo style. You have to have id just to walk on the street, you have to id yourself to government agents while going for walk in the park or else a cop might beat you up and lay a bunch of false charges to ruin your life and future, does this sound like a free country to you? IMO it'd be far better to be attacked by a random criminal than a cop because at least the random criminal will usually run away after he stole your money. The cop will beat you on the street, then strip search you naked, finger print you, then probably beat you again at the police station. Then he'll write a report chalked full of lies about how you punched him in the face so he was justified to shoot you in the back and nearly kill you. And even if he is found to be lying, the crown will never charge him because the cop likely is testifying across a dozen cases at any given time and works hand in hand with the crown, so you'll never get justice. It would seem far more effective we lobby our government to get the right not to show ID. Because it doesn't exist when you can be jailed for exercising your right. Its like you have the right to a lawyer right. Well what if when you or any civilian tried to call your lawyer, the cop beat you up and made up phony charges that you attacked him? Does this sound like a right to you, or a privilege that the cop can extend if he isn't a complete violent thug and gang banger. These sound like temporary privileges to me, not rights.
