Assuming you're correct and obesity is a contributing factor to death for Covid patients, it still does not mean Canada should not do everything reasonable to save their lives. Many people are obese for various reasons but in our system they are still entitled to health care and whatever can be done to save their lives. Our health care system does not discriminate between people based on their weight. The best care available still might not save a lot of them, but the health care professionals must do what they can.

Trudeau vows to limit oil and gas development in Canada
blackbird replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The third world countries are demanding the developed countries pay them for "causing climate change". Already Trudeau and his cohorts in the U.N. have promised to give the third world 100 billion dollars to help them fight or ameliorate climate change. This whole thing is dominated by the Marxist U.N. which is made up of about 200 countries, most of which are dictatorships or Marxists states. They decide what the U.N. IPCC, more of a political body than a scientific group, will set as objectives. Obviously the main objective will be to extort as much money as possible from the developed countries. Get ready for climate change alarmists in our country to turn their attention to everyone's every day life and look for anything that might release CO2. They have already started talking about medical devices people use. We will be punished just for living and will be taxed and fined for everything we do. WE already are to a certain extent with the carbon tax scam. The mainstream media is fully on the climate alarmism bandwagon. We never hear opposing views on MSM. They have effectively been silenced. Cities and small towns have already started to declare climate emergencies, supposedly to give themselves the power to tax and charge every citizen for living. This already started in my town with the distribution of new garbage collection system. They delivered two large bins to every household, one for Organics and the Other for Recyclables. We also have the original garbage container. Everything must be separated, cleaned, and put in the appropriate bins. Glass jars and plastic bags must be taken to the recycle depot by the citizens. They also increased the monthly charge for collection by $4 per month or $48 per year. But this could be just the tip of the iceberg of what is coming down the road. People need to inform themselves about what is happening with this fake man-made global warming issue and stand up to defend their cities and country from the radical climate change politicians and alarmists. Canada is in a dangerous place because politicians have been brow-beaten into accepting the madness. There is no party for those of us who oppose this insanity. Nobody wants to be known as a denier. It has rapidly grown into a huge cult. -
There have also been lots of younger people who died from Covid and others who suffer from long term medical problems. But who cares? Why bother protecting the elderly or anyone else?

"A Canadian man has died two weeks after he boasted about having Covid-19 symptoms while insisting the virus isn’t real in a livestreamed video. Mak Parhar was found dead by paramedics at his home in New Westminster, British Columbia, on Thursday morning. His cause of death is still under investigation, Global News reported. Mr Parhar, who was an outspoken opponent of Canada’s mask and vaccine mandates throughout the pandemic, dismissed the existence of Covid-19 — which he referred to as “convid” — in an October 21 Twitch livestream. He reported experiencing several symptoms associated with the virus, including a cough, chills and fatigue, but said they were “not convid because convid doesn’t exist”. In another video posted on Wednesday, just hours before his death, Mr Parhar said he was feeling better and revealed he had recently taken ivermectin, an anti-parasite medication that has been promoted in conservative circles as a treatment for Covid-19 despite a lack of conclusive evidence that it helps people with the virus." Man dies two weeks after sharing video boasting about Covid-19 symptoms but saying virus wasn’t real (msn.com) Very tragic. Sounds like someone you would agree with. Your problem seems to be you look at everything is either black or white, when in fact the world is a complex place. Government control or intervention to save lives and protect the health of society has never been considered as authoritarian as Russia, China, or N. Korea. Nobody stops you from writing and saying what you want in this country, but if you lived in China or N. Korea you would be very careful what you say or you would keep quiet. In N. Korea you must also dress a certain way and are not allowed to dress in a way the government does not approve of. You are not free to do much other than what the Communist government approves of. You must worship the dear leader. Here, even though you are required to show a vaccine passport to get into a restaurant, you have choices. You can get vaccinated which is a simple thing and only takes a few minutes or you can refuse and you can get take out food. Wearing a mask to protect others inside buildings or crowded areas is not an infringement of rights. It's a minor inconvenience similar to wearing a seatbelt of obeying the traffic lights or speed limits. You can worship what you want, watch whatever kind of movies you want, read what you want and dress how you want. All of that is controlled or not allowed in China or N. Korea. So I don't see any comparison with Canada or the west. So I think you should do some studying and increase your knowledge of the real world.

With all the Covid deniers, anti-maskers, anti-mandate people, I can see why we need government regulations and enforcement. Sadly a prominent well-known Covid denier in the Vancouver area recently died likely of Covid, although he denied it up to the end. There have been lots of anti-mandate and Covid deniers who were converted on their death bed and admitted they were wrong. There have also been other deniers who went to their grave denying Covid and opposing mandates. A strange world we live in. The large number of deniers does go to prove why we need government and health authorities intervention. Without them far more of us would be dead. It would be like the black plague in Europe in the middle ages that killed 1/3 or 1/2 of Europe. There was no health authority or government with the knowledge to do anything about it.

Trudeau vows to limit oil and gas development in Canada
blackbird replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I googled causes of man-made climate change and guess what? I got a list of the signs of climate change and a whole lot of speculation and assumptions, but no actual proof. What Is the Evidence that Human-Caused Climate Change is Happening? | Caltech Science Exchange Speculation or pointing to signs of climate change is not proof that man is causing it. How often do we hear on the fake news forest fires are proof man is causing climate change. Everything happening today is blamed on man. That is the major flaw of the debate and these websites. Whatever happened to the scientific method and proof? The way these sites operate is similar to a fake justice system in China where a person is guilty unless he is proven innocent. According to modern day "science", man is guilty of causing climate change unless he can be proven innocent. This is not science but it is politics. -
Yes, I will go and pray to my God, the true God of the Bible, who created you. Will pray for people like you too. Mocking God and worship of God is the road to hell, not a pleasant place to spend eternity. The comrades in hell will be Communists, thieves, murderers, all haters of everything and everybody. But Jesus Christ saves and there is still time.

"What you need to know about old growth trees in B.C. — and the threats facing them | CBC News "The province says there are currently 13.7 million hectares of old growth in British Columbia, and 10 million of those hectares are protected or not economical to harvest. For reference, the entire province is roughly 95 million hectares in size, with approximately 57 million hectares of forested land. Around 20 million hectares of public forest in B.C. is available for harvesting, according to the province, of which 3.6 million hectares is old growth. Each year, 200,000 hectares of forested lands in B.C. are logged. The province says 27 per cent of this annual harvest comes from old growth." A regulated amount of old growth is harvested (27% of the annual harvest) because it is valuable for certain wood products as this article describes.

government appealing indigenous child welfare ruling
blackbird replied to EastCanada90's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Speaking of governments in Canada spending money like it was growing on trees, I heard Saskatchewan gives fathers four months of paid maternity leave when wives have a baby. Meanwhile the federal government is promising billions of dollars for third world countries to help fight climate change. And some wonder why people are distrustful and dislike governments. Governments in Canada are out of control and spend taxpayer's money like it grows on trees. -
Canada's flag permanently at half mast
blackbird replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
That rule no. 16 might refer to lowering the flag to half mast for one day for deaths of people in something like a terrorist attack. Putting the flag at half mast for six months is a whole different matter which I don't think anyone dreamed that Trudeau would do. That is a completely undemocratic move and should be investigated and laws passed to prevent such a travesty. A nation's flag is not the private property of the PM or clerk of the Privy council to be used in such a way. -
Canada's flag permanently at half mast
blackbird replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Who gave one man Trudeau the authority to lower the Canadian flag to half mast for six months? Lowering a country's flag is a major move similar in importance to bringing in an important law. If it is going to be lowered for anything, that should be a decision of the elected representatives of the people to decide for what reason and for how long exactly, i.e. Parliament and ratified by the Senate and declared by the Governor General. If a PM can arbitrarily do something like that, he might be able to do anything. That is not democracy; it is a dictatorship. -
Good question. Who authorized our flag to be lowered to half mast for six months. This is supposed to be a symbol that belongs to all Canadians, not one individual to use for his own agenda.

quote Protection In eight years, BC has doubled its protected areas to 13.8 percent of the province – one of the highest percentages in North America. BC’s protected areas are larger than all of the forest area ever logged in the forest. BC’s protected areas total 11.7 million hectares (29 million acres). A total of about 9.4 million hectares (23.2 million acres) of the province’s forested area has been logged over time (5.6 million hectares or 13.8 million acres are forests). BC’s protected areas size comparisons: Same size as the Cuba The same size as either the United Kingdom or Romania Three times the size of Switzerland Same size as Louisiana or Pennsylvania Larger than the size of Kansas 2/3 the size of Washington State" Only a small fraction of B.C. is logged. Most is wilderness. Logging provides terrific homes for millions of people. It provides a livelihood for hundreds of thousands of B.C. citizens. We should not listen to the environmental radical's fear-mongering. We need common sense and jobs. Canadian made Handcrafted Log Home and Log Cabin | Canada's Log People (canadaslogpeople.com) " Canada’s Log People harvests timber from designated forestry areas in British Columbia, which are then replanted with five saplings for every harvested tree. We put back what nature gave us." These log homes are really something special that not everyone can afford. But they create fantastic homes and wonderful careers for those who build them. Of course not everyone in the forest industry builds log homes. Most work in other jobs in the forest industry. Many are employed in logging, sawmills, pulp mills, home construction, retail, etc. and many have good incomes that allow them to buy homes and support their families in B.C. God has greatly blessed many people in the forest industry. But the threat we now face is from ideologues who oppose our valuable industries such as oil and gas, forestry, mining, and want to shut things down. Not sure how they would do if they didn't have the oil products they live on or the homes built with lumber. Maybe they could find a cave somewhere and show us how it's done.

That is not factual and not how old growth forests are located. Old growth are mixed in with younger forests over much of B.C. They do not just exist in a tiny area. There are of course some areas where older trees have been around longer because of the climate and because of fewer forest fires in those areas. The coastal area and northwest B.C. area has far less or no forest fires compared with the southern - central interior of B.C. But the largest trees grow in the coastal areas and are therefore more useful and valuable for logging and lumber production. Some areas on Vancouver Island for example already have parks including the very large Strathcona Provincial Park which covers well over a thousand square kilometers in the central part of Vancouver Island. Also, how do you define "old growth". Does a tree that is more than 100, 200, 300 yeas old have to be preserved everywhere? Because these trees are mixed with younger forests, B.C. cannot realistically preserve every older tree in the province. Most people do not travel to the remote wilderness or forests because there is no way to get there for most of us. Therefore it serves no purpose to preserve all forests out in the wilderness when they are a natural resource that creates thousands of jobs, lumber for millions of homes across America, Canada and other countries. But there are large areas of wilderness already preserved in many parks across the province. " Protected lands and waters cover 15.4% of B.C.'s land base and 3.2% of B.C.'s marine areas. In the terrestrial realm, 15.0% is in provincial and federal parks and protected areas, while the remaining 0.4% is in other provincial and federal designations such as Wildlife Management Areas and National Wildlife Areas, and private conservation lands. The amount of recognized protected land in B.C. has more than doubled since the early 1990s. The amount of protected land and water varies across British Columbia. For example, protected areas cover over 40% of the Gwaii Haanas, Chilcotin Ranges and Eastern Hazelton Mountains regions but less than 10% of the Fraser Basin, Fraser Plateau and Thompson-Okanagan Plateau regions. Ecosystem representation varies within the protected areas system. For example, 30% of B.C.'s Boreal Altai Fescue Alpine habitats and 5% of Coastal Douglas-fir habitats are protected." Protected Lands & Waters - Environmental Reporting BC (gov.bc.ca) Actually there is an old growth area about 20 km from town which is preserved as a park. If I get a chance I will take a trip out there and get some photos and post them on here. We have many places people can visit and see the older forests now without killing thousands of forest industry jobs in the Province. Part of Strathcona Provincial Park on Vancouver Island

It was just reported on Global BCTV news that the committee that recommended to the Forestry Minister to shut down logging in various areas around B.C. amounting to 26,000 square kilometers of forests and causing thousands of job losses was loaded with five environmentalists. In effect this allows environmentalists to decide the future of B.C.'s forest industry, the main industry which employs tens of thousands of citizens in forestry and spin-off industries. The NDP government in Victoria have put the foxes in charge of the chicken house.

The claim that the Forestry Industry is not being done in a sustainable way is a blatant lie. The only opposition to the Forest Industry comes from radical environmentalists and their armchair quarterbacks, some of whom are foreign based and people who automatically assume it is not sustainable without having a shred of evidence or facts. Some of the forest industry opponents heard there are "old growth" trees in the forest somewhere but they have no idea of what trees they are talking about or where they are. But they assume that old growth trees are being cut down everywhere which is a blatant lie. There are many preserved areas. But why would somebody who lives far away from B.C. and who knows nothing about it even comment other than to stir the pot and cause division and hostility? "The deep ecologists are pantheistic fanatics with New Age, Hindu, or Buddhist overtones. Such organizations as “Greenpeace” and “Earth First” represent this group. Members of this movement favor radical confrontation, which leads them to be far less pragmatic than the Greens. The pantheism of the deep ecologists teaches “that all organisms and entities in the ecosphere… are equal in intrinsic worth.”2 As one proponent says, “Unless the need were urgent, I could no more sink the blade of an ax into the tissues of a living tree than I could drive it into the flesh of a fellow human.”3 Ac-cording to David Foreman, “A human life has no more intrinsic value than an individual grizzly bear life. If it came down to a confrontation between a grizzly and a friend, I’m not sure whose side I would be on. But I do know humans are a disease, a cancer on nature.”4" Radical Environmentalism | Christian Research Institute (equip.org) We see this kind of pantheistic attitude even with our leading politicians like Trudeau and his new Minister of the Environment, Steven Guilbeault. Here is a guy who was in fact the Director of Greenpeace for the province of Quebec for ten years and now his job will be to lead the charge against Canada's oil and gas industry. When he was in the radical environmentalist Greenpeace, he actually committed a serious act of civil disobedience in climbing the CN Tower in Ontario about 1,000 feet to make his radical point against the energy industry. This is no different than the extremist tree huggers at Ferry Creek who have been blockading a logging company from logging in the area and over 1,000 of them have been arrested so far. They obviously consider saving trees (which are a renewable resource) worth breaking the law even if it costs B.C. thousands of jobs. As it says above "a human life has no more intrinsic value than an individual grizzly bear' or a tree??? That is Pantheism, the worship of Mother Nature or Mother Earth and the demotion of man to just another creature or animal. Here is a link to another article on a related topic. I doubt you understand anything about the sustainability of the BC Forest Industry. It is already sustainable and has been for decades. It has been managed by the BC Ministry of Forests with complex and involved regulation and licencing. Replanting of logged areas has been a part of the sustainability for decades. Clear-cutting is the only way forests can be logged. It is not practicable to leave a tree standing here or there. They would most likely die and rot away anyway if left like that. The equipment required for logging and the nature of logging requires it to be done on a clear-cut basis. It is difficult to move the large logging equipment around if a tree is left standing in the way here and there. It would not be economical to try to do it that way and likely trees left standing would be damaged or die because of the need to disturb the surrounding area with machinery and dragging out trees across the surface. It is better to replant a logged off area. They also leave untouched green forested areas along the sides of rivers and creeks. But even with clear-cutting being done, there are still vast areas of untouched forests everywhere. There are also many parks and preserved areas already in B.C. The forest industry does not cause climate change or harm the ecosystem. Logging is well-regulated already in B.C. The main problem is the Mother Earth worshipers and their NDP servants who have a hate for mankind and want to shut down Canada's key industries such as the oil and gas industry and here now, the forest industry. They simply don't care for people and families and prefer to preserve the whales and forests in a pristine untouched state. People need good-paying jobs to be able to buy a home which are very expensive these days and support their families. Environmentalists could care less about that. Much of this environmental radicalism is supported by big money from U.S. millionaires and billionaires, who often think of Canada as their hunting, fishing, wilderness vacation spot. I know for a fact some of these wealthy and influential people fly into remote areas of B.C. to hunt and fish and of course they don't like the idea of clear-cuts or logging. If you fly over B.C. you will actually see mostly untouched mountains and forests.

B.C. announces plans to defer old-growth logging across 26,000 square kilometres The NDP Socialists prove once again they are environmental extremists and put ideology ahead of the livelihood of thousands of workers and their families in B.C. "Susan Yurkovich, president of the B.C. Council of Forest Industries, said in a statement the plan would have a "profound and devastating impact" on the industry, which provided more than $4 billion in revenues to the province over the last year. The council's initial analysis suggested the deferrals would result in the closure of between 14 and 20 sawmills, two pulp mills as well as manufacturing facilities, representing about 18,000 jobs and $400 million in annual revenue, Yurkovich said." The forest industry is the main industry in B.C. This will have a devastating effect on a number of towns in B.C. It will also have a negative effect on thousands of families who are trying to build a life, own a home, buy a home, or raise families in B.C. B.C. announces plans to defer old-growth logging across 26,000 square kilometres (msn.com) Nov3 6:50PM news report justifying this edit with additional information. The Global BCTV news just reported that the committee that come up with this recommendation to the NDP Minister of Forests in Victoria had five environmentalists on it. This demonstrates the incompetence of the NDP government and appears it will cost B.C. the loss of about 18,000 jobs and $400 million in revenue for the BC government and huge hit to many communities around B.C.

Trudeau vows to limit oil and gas development in Canada
blackbird replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Ah but you can't assume from a physics lab test that the same thing is creating man-made global warming. The heating of the earth's atmosphere is well known to have happened all through history long before mankind's industrial age began approximately 200 or 250 years ago. There was the Roman Warming period of several centuries about 2,000 years ago and the Middle Age Warming period which lasted hundreds of years. During both periods the temperature could have been as warm or warmer than today. The warming in those two periods was not caused by mankind obviously. It was purely caused by nature. The amount of CO2 in the atmosphere is about 0.04% of the atmosphere and the amount of water vapour is up to 4% and varies. Water vapour is a major part of the atmosphere. Therefore it is reasonable to assume, since water vapour traps heat in the atmosphere, it is a major cause of global warming. Global warming is a natural part of the atmosphere and is what makes life on earth possible. So just because CO2 and methane is known in a lab physics experiment to have something to do with heating or releasing energy does not prove that it is a major factor in the earth's atmosphere or that man has anything to do with it. In other words a small experiment in the lab cannot be used as a basis to claim the atmosphere operates the same way because the atmosphere is a totally different situation. The global warming of the earth's atmosphere cannot in any way be replicated in a lab experiment. Those gases are also produced by nature and are necessary to heat the atmosphere which is necessary for life. All I am saying is that a little lab test proves nothing about atmospheric global warming because the atmosphere and earth is very large and complex. The radiation from the sun is involved, water vapour is involved, the oceans are involved, radiation from space is involved. The whole thing is complex and how man fits into the picture is unproven. -

600 people died from the heat in B.C. this past summer because they were not prepared for the heat with air conditioning in their homes and the government, which claims to believe in climate change, did not help the people be prepared ahead of time. The government also failed the people by not keeping the ambulance service in proper form to respond to calls without taking hours to get to people. The same situation in Lytton, BC which burned down. What did the government do to prepare for a possible fire such as that? Nothing. Yet the people of BC have been paying carbon taxes sinces 2008. Where did that money all go? Why wasn't it used to prepare for such a heat wave in B.C.? -

He obviously is not listening to his constituents. All he is doing is parroting liberal talking points down to you. One would think his job is to listen to his constituents, not try to force feed his ideas on them. There is no "climate crisis" or "climate emergency". Those are fear-mongering words to try to brainwash the masses. Climate has always changed. People should be working on adapting to changing weather instead of thinking they can play God and control the climate. He is also being deceptive in saying equalization does not come from provincial revenues. Of course it doesn't come directly from the provincial government, but it is collected from the provinces via corporate taxes and income taxes. Billions of dollars came from Alberta in the last 20 or 30 years and most went to Quebec. He doesn't believe that because he has been brainwashed but it is a fact. -
Trudeau vows to limit oil and gas development in Canada
blackbird replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Man-made climate change is unproven and the biggest scam in history. So Trudeau is imposing carbon taxes on Canadians for nothing. Taxes do not reduce CO2 to begin with. Punishing seniors for driving their car to the grocery store, doctor's appointments, and to see their grandkids is the height of ignorance of our political masters. It has not reduced greenhouse gases and has no effect on climate change. There is a major disconnect between politicians and the common people. Oil and gas are natural resources that God placed in the earth for the benefit of man. They provide the necessities of life such as heating our homes, providing transportation, food, the construction of homes, etc. etc. If is bizarre that we are facing the biggest threat to our way of life from those who want to deprive us of the energy that runs the world. The threat is not climate change; it is the destruction of our essential resource industries. -
Canada's flag permanently at half mast
blackbird replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
God allows things to happen sometimes. There may be a reason. Much of the population of Canada turned it's back on God and his Word and prefers to follow Satan with his evil progressivism and liberalism. So the way Canada is heading may be a judgment from God. It would not be the first time in history that something like that happened. It happened to Israel in ancient times. Trudeau believes he has the moral high ground, but he doesn't know what morality is or care. He and his minions don't care. The only salvation is on an individual basis for those who turn to God and his written revelation, the King James Bible in English, and his Son Jesus Christ. Call upon him for salvation and guidance in this life. We can't save the planet as Trudeau thinks he can do. Those who turned their back on God have chosen their own bed. That is why one must call upon God and be saved out of this sinking ship. The conservatives cannot save us. They are mixed up with some of them and their leader being liberal lite. They cannot save anyone. Politicians can not save us in this messed up and evil world. The only salvation is Jesus Christ. -
Canada's flag permanently at half mast

The whole residential school issue has been hijacked and vastly overblown by red power activists and left - liberal politicians to further their radical agenda of more state control of society and to make Canadians pay billions to FN. There was some sexual and physical abuse, but there was no genocide. There were no "unmarked graves". There are neglected graves, the existence of which has been known by natives all along. But it serves the purpose to get far more compensation and sympathy to change the narrative to unmarked graves and genocide. Keeping the flag at half mast plays for Trudeau's agenda and base to make people think we are in some kind of crisis that needs his dictatorial powers.
