  1. I would say from neither the right or the left and political opinions, especially the extreme types, should not be a part of the curriculum. Rather a guide to the systems and programs we have in place to help them on their way to being productive Canadians. Some, such as the refugees from Allepo will likely need some financial assistance since everything they had has probably gone up in smoke in a war. Others may need some guidance as to how they can validate their foreign license to practice the medical profession they left behind in their native country. I'm sure there are a wide range of issues to be covered, but from what I hear and read etc., I get the impression most of the people who arrive here want to just get settled and then get to work. I don't think any long winded lectures on this or that opinion about this or that religion would be in any way productive. Our Constitution and Charter of Rights should definitely be discussed.
  2. I think "this one" would not only become confusing but could become downright insulting in some cases. I like the idea of classes were there is interaction between those seated, and a well informed instructor properly qualified to discuss many of the issues you have listed. That way questions that arise could be answered with consistency instead of opinions ranging from all over the map.
  3. Venezuela put all their eggs in the oil basket and then the bottom fell out. But go ahead and deflect to try and protect your buddy.
  4. You mean wealthy people like Trump who create el cheapo jobs in Mexico (and China) and then hide their profits offshore so they don't have to pay tax, those wealthy people? You're right, curse them.
  5. As I did to try and educate you to the fact screening does in fact occur.
  6. I bet you he didn't spend over a million bucks flying his own armored limo like Harper used to do back when we were really doomed.
  7. We would certainly be better off to make a choice based on an open competition rather than single sourcing, and especially such a troubled unit as the 35. And you can call it petty politics if you like, but the opposition government has a right to see those type of files. Harper chose to try and ignore the rules. I wonder why?, and look at the black mark it earned him. Perhaps if he would have been honest instead of arrogant.
  8. Yes they do, unlike Fox.
  9. I suspect that a lot of the people who are trying to move here are doing so because of some of the concepts you have listed here. I know people who have lived here forever, multi generational, who have trouble with some of the ideas listed. But they agree to live and let live. Doesn't affect them anyway. You can attend whatever house of worship you choose, but I doubt for instance many people who are fleeing Syria are coming here to turn Canada into another form of Syria. I have confidence Canadian laws will continue to be progressive.
  10. Yes you would think that, but again, you only make assumptions. Hundreds of millions of thousands them. Or whatever numbers you're playing with today.
  11. And they had a right to see that file and Harper hid it and it cost him dearly. And if he'd been allowed to run free with a single source, highly troubled procurement project it would have cost us all dearly. Him in terms of reputation, us in terms of tax dollars. When you come to spending that kind of money, it only makes sense to have a transparent bidding process.
  12. He hid from the press the same way he hid from the provincial premiers. One year in and JT has had 3 meetings with all in. Not all ended in finalized agreements, but if you listen to the premiers they all say at least now we are talking. To me that has to be a step in the right direction.
  13. He did the same thing all through the latter part of his time in office. And he decided the handful of "legitimate" journalists, (5 in total) that he let into a briefing.
  14. I'm not sure that comparing TV/Radio programming to fighter jets makes a lot of sense. You may not like the CBC and others may, simply a matter of opinion. Engines blowing up on the runway is not a matter of opinion. And as to cost, I'm not sure I trust any file Harper "released" on this project. After all, hiding that file was one of the issues that got him the first ever contempt of parliament finding.
  15. Yes indeed, I am familiar with that problem they encountered as well. I forget off the top of my head the ITT of the 35 engine when it is up at hover power but it is huge. (notice I refrained from using the Trump version)
  16. OK so exactly what are these Canadian Values you speak of and how would you propose to question a potential immigrant/refugee in such a way as to confirm they would uphold those values in such a way as to appease you?
  17. What kind of a morbid bastard would ask such questions after reading an outpouring of grief tied to the loss of a long time life partner? That's just sick.
  18. You'd have one hell of a time convincing anyone who was paying attention during his 9 years of that. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/opinion/stephen-harpers-five-question-limit/article579733/
  19. The point is he's not afraid of the press. If people want a selfie that's up to them n'est pas?
  20. Probably the same fear/arrogance that caused him to severly restrict his meetings with provincial leaders.
  21. Harper limited access to only the reporters he liked (of course), and then limited them to 5 questions. And that from a man who promised more transparent government. Ha ha ha is about all you can say to that.
  22. How come he was so afraid of the press then?
  23. Maybe re read the article I posted earlier and you will see that there are skilled people doing the screening. I can only imagine what kind of a mess you might make of it left to your own xenophobic devices.
  24. They are being screened with regard to realistic and verifiable issues, not some arbitrary questions about what Kellie Leitch reckons could determine what Canadian values are.
  25. And that's over now, but I am interested to see what investigations into the Trump foundation will reveal.
