  1. People like betsy and Argus choose to ignore facts to support their partisan ways. Then vote for someone else. I think the last time I voted Liberal in an Ontario election was the early 80`s
  2. I agree politics is a participation sport. My only problem, as I thought I stated above, is the convention. I agree that taking a weekend off every few years to participate is not a big burden, the travel however is. In some provinces you can get to it from anywhere in an hour or less, in others maybe 2-3 hours. For many in Ontario however it could easily be 12+ hours each way. In Quebec there is a relatively small population that might be a very long time as well. I forgot about Newfoundland, there are many people* in Labrador (one part of the country I have yet to travel to). For national conventions it becomes very difficult for the majority. *I am having problems finding out population of Labrador as a whole. My estimate is 50k or about 10% of the entire province.
  3. Even if you try and excuse his drug dealing past as youthful errors (he stopped when he was 22), you can't ignore the way he used his radio pulpit to bully and destroy other people with lies (just like Trump). He is a bad person - period. The one difference between him and his late brother is at least Rob was somewhat genuine despite his flaws.
  4. Exactly my point. The original lands they occupied were the Cadillac and we forced them off and onto the broken down Fords. The Europeans wanted the prime real-estate I mentioned above. What does money have to do with bettering oneself?
  5. If the band is taxing residents, and a business says we would like to open shop on reserve then they get the good land. Likewise the non-native family that wants the prime waterfront real-estate, etc. The band starts looking at revenue, not people.
  6. Provincial delegate conventions make a lot of sense for the most part. Ontario is the only possible exception as you can't easily get across the province in a few hours. At the federal level, they really restrict participation.
  7. Forgot about that one. I guess others in here would also mention the US war on Turkey Trump started.
  8. That is certainly an approach worth considering. The only potential negative I see is having non-natives on reserve and then the band starts looking at them as a better revenue source. It might change the dynamic in Khanawake significantly, which would be good there but how it changes in other places might be a big negative.
  9. Displaying your military might for commercial gain is damn close to a war. True we don't know what would have happened if Columbia didn't blink, but I think it qualifies as an act of war for sure.
  10. Lots of problems with good old paper and pencil. Took us many iterations to reduce ballot box stuffing. Electronic voting will also take time to work out kinks, but it does offer many advantages as well.
  11. What do you think about supporting Panama succession from Columbia? Wasn't that just a warship or two in the harbour?
  12. Only to partisans. I think voting irregularities are very important, but a partisan would think that voting irregularities show initiative.
  13. Just found a fairly detailed summary about how the voting went. There is a slight discrepancy from other stories I have seen w.r.t. Allen but as this one is more detailed I am assuming it is correct.
  14. The last time I voted for a mainstream party in Ontario, it was the Mike Harris Progressive Conservatives. If Elliott (or Mulroney or Allen whoever she is) won then I would have spent some time considering the party because I do want to get rid of the Liberals. With Ford winning however they will not get my consideration.
  15. You would need to use a level playing field for that. What Presidents started a war in their first year in office?
  16. From what I understand, Elliott is claiming significant irregularities with voting. She seems to be implying that votes were assigned to the wrong ridings. That of course could affect the outcome according to the rules. As I understand it, the party leadership has decided for Ford. The only recourse Elliott has is to go to court.
  17. That should be in the content tab. If I can remember properly, they appear like a choice (content or poll), but both really need to be filled out (content and poll).
  18. Don't forget Reagan (Libya, Grenada). Perhaps the better question to ask is which American Presidents didn't end up starting a war.
  19. Excellent suggestions, although the MPP may be a better choice as health care is primarily a provincial matter.
  20. I agree with your assessment of Carson, but from what I have seen competence has nothing to do with longevity in the Trump administration. Loyalty (as per Trump definition) and getting caught doing something wrong (note the emphasis is very important, doing something wrong is irrelevant). Those hanging from thin threads are Rex Tillerson, Jeff Sessions, and John Kelly. They all however have a lot of eyes on them and all appear to be of good character so Trump knows he will be in hot water targeting any of them. The two big nepotism appointments may be harder and harder for Trump to keep holding onto (strong rope, but weakening grip). *Yeah, I know I did a poor job playing by the rules of your game, but at least I had fun.
  21. I know nothing about her, but she ended up with a larger vote than Mulroney* so obviously she connected with a lot of people. While they were both unknowns a couple of months ago, Mulroney had the advantage of a lot of hype. I agree Allen is someone to watch. *Correction, previous news seemed to indicate she was ahead of Mulroney but I found a more detailed account that puts her very close but slightly behind Mulroney. Regardless, she did well for someone that came out of nowhere.
