Yes but I think this is the first time a party that got pwned in Quebec still received a pretty strong Majority. Quebec is an irrelevant piece of crap if you ask me. They do nothing good for this country. Montreal is nice though.
-
Well I suppose you should run for premiere of the province then. Yours, John Tory
-
Quebec will become less and less important as the population moves west. Harper is proposing adding seats to BC, Ontario and Alberta none in Quebec. In fact if it wasn't illegal the proper course would be to remove seats from Quebec.

Wow what a biased story. And that one stat doesn't really say much. Again Ford isn't saying he would close every library. Only a few to make the service more efficient. How does the library usage compare to say 15 years ago when internet didn't have the effect it does now. You suspect stuff coming from the Ford's is a lie but when it comes from the Star it's totally legit? PLEASE! And it seems Libraries aren't this sanctuary for reading as much as a free internet cafe. Sort of flies in the face of all those people who say anyone who don't think all of them are sacrosanct is a dummy.
-
I also suspect the demand for these libraries when they were built and now are very different. Certainly the demand for books stores are.
-
Well Tim Horton's puts stores where they believe there's a need. I've heard They bought land in North Halton and don't plan to build anything there for years because they believe there will be a demand in the future. If that demand doesn't materialize the store is closed. I know there are two Timmy's and a Timmy's in an ESSO within walking distance from my house and all are well used. If all these Libraries are packed and being well used I guess that would be a defense against closing them. So far I have not seen that defense being used however.
-
Well how many Libraries does a city or town really need? I think the Tim Hortons remark was meant more as an off the cuff remark. Everyone knows there are Tim Horton's everywhere you can sort of grasp the issue of there possibly being too many if you make that comparison. I'm sure he wasn't willfully lying to make a point.

Well you ask the Ford's Toronto a quarter billion in the hole. Apparently some councillors dispute that. I don't have access to the books so I have no idea. But if they are in the whole by as much as the Ford's say. I think closing under performing libraries is probably a good idea. From what I hear there are ares of Toronto where you have one at every block. I don't live in Toronto so I can't comment on that. But again if it's true that perhaps cuts can be made.
-
I guess. I really don't have a use for a Library at this stage in my life. If I want to a book I can buy one and I have access to internet in my home. Last time I used one was when I was in school finding source material for projects. The Librarian surely didn't help me with the project, that would have been cheating anyway. But tell me, what do they do that warrants 6-figures?
-
So Librarians teach people to read now? I thought that service was provided at schools. Actually if you can't read there are several government run services that teach people to read for free.
-
Perhaps because they are debt up to their eyeballs depending on who you ask. Doug Ford says he's not against libraries, he just wants to close a few. Perish the thought. It came out today that a few Libraries in Toronto make 6 figures. Please tell me going SHHHH!!!! to rowdy kids and updating the dewey decimal system isn't worth 6 figures?
-
The only the defense I've heard against possibly closing a few underused libraries is that anyone who thinks a few should be closed is a big dummy that hates books. I suspect most people going into Libraries these days are doing so to use the free internet provided and not to "borrow" a new or old book. BTW what's the difference between going to a Library and taking out a book and downloading it online?
-
The NDP should just change it's name to the NDQ. A vast majority of its gains came from Quebec. They just became an alternative to the Bloc. The election of students and bar maids that had little or no connection to the riding they represent prove that Quebec just voted for the NDP cuz. This only proves they aren't a terribly national party afterall.
-
BTW it's surprising that Margaret Atwood is so eager to keep Libraries considering if you're reading her book at a Library that means you aren't buying it.
-
You know this story is total bullshit. Toronto has more Libraries per capital then most large cities in the world. It actually has more than New York total. To imply that anyone that says perhaps Toronto could close a few branches and streamline the service is immediately labeled an anti-intellectual luddite. It's ridiculous! People on the radio were going after Doug Ford for not pronouncing the word right. People in Toronto are becoming exceedingly petty about these cost cutting issues.
-
LOL they both suck.

Wow Oleg that was two posts of anecdotal and mostly false information. Not all Churches are run down. Maybe in the limp wristed United and Anglican sects. But I know of many fine Christian churches that are thriving. And new Muslims to Canada certainly aren't all low income. Go to the Erindale/Streetsville region of Mississauga. This doesn't worry me but I'm sure groups would oppose a group of Christians doing the same thing. Also apparently the Imam who is doing these teaching has links to extremist groups. What would be worrisome about what this school is doing is how they treat the girls involved, making them sit in the back and such. I'm sure any group other than Muslims wouldn't get away with that kind of discrimination.

Apparently Jews are very mad at this episode. Not sure why, but then again I'm not Jewish. Saying "Occupy Me" during sex is very funny IMHO.

The NFL is back so. . . EFF THE CFL!!!!

It's not edgy. The stuff Larry gets himself into seems pretty awkward and uncomfortable but it's hilarious. I like how Super Dave Osborne is in this show.

If I may speak politically. Let's be honest. Without Layton this party is a rudderless mess. It's not like all those MP's in Quebec got elected because they were qualified or anything. They were elected because people seem to like Jack. Oh and Quebec is a province full of "me-first" idiots. Thomas Muclair is fairly charismatic but Jack says he wants another Quebec lady in charge. Seeing pics of Jack today and hearing him on the radio, there's pretty much zero chance he'll be back in the house by September, if ever.
-
Wow Jack does not look good.
-
Think that's what this is about? Reports were that he seemed a bit frail during the election campaign. Perhaps they can make the Hottie that never visited her riding the Opposition Leader.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ipuXgEQarPI I hope some people on this board thought Walking Dead was amazing. I watched the season and have read the first 6 or so Trade Paperbacks. The new season looks like it'll stay sorta true to the comic but ad some new stuff. Shane going away with Andrea sorta spits in the face of the comic though.

Canada's Crime Rate Hits 40 Year Low
Boges replied to cybercoma's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Says you. Yours, C Anthony I think Canada is by and large a safe place. Doesn't mean we shouldn't be tough on the people that do commit crimes.
