  1. The niqab thing worked for conservatives and moved them up in the polls overtaking the rival Liberals by as much as 7 percentage points as most Canadians including myself are against the niqab (in my case not if it is the woman's choice without any external or cultural pressures). Even Harper made this issue that only had affected TWO women since 2011 as a large part of his final speech last Friday in order to continue to build on anti-niqab emotions and prop up more support especially in Quebec where anti niqab feeling is strongest. They became bold and arrogant when seeing the polls and continued with this by going too far a day later calling other cultures which may be different to ours as "barbaric cultural practices". This was too far for most Canadian minds and hearts and the polls has started to move in other directions with Liberals moving up likely mainly coming from NDP support as Liberals now are the only force who have a chance to stop conservatives from taking over. Beside people beginning to get Trudeau's message that the real issues for most Canadians are jobs and the economy and the environment not the fact that niqab affected two women on their citizenship.
  2. Liberals maintain their Lead (Nanos tracking poll released October 4) Nanos poll: Liberals trend up, NDP trend down, Conservatives steady Either NDP votes moving to Liberals as a result of strategic voting or the conservatives recent phrase of "Barbaric practices" and similar phrases is moving passionate Canadian hearts to Liberals as the only party to stop another extreme right take over. Meanwhile, regionally: The Liberals lead in Atlantic Canada, with 52.1 per cent support, and in Ontario with 44 per cent support. The Conservatives lead in the Prairies, with 51.6 per cent support. In British Columbia, there is a tight race between the NDP (34.9 per cent) and the Liberals (34.3 per cent). The NDP lead in Quebec with 32.9 per cent, but support continues to slide. In battleground Ontario Liberal support stands at 44%, conservatives at 34.8% and NDP at 18%. In Quebec NDP slide continues while Liberals gaining and conservatives steady. This poll is conducted a night after the latest French debate. Quebec-only chart The numbers past two days are not a statistical tie anymore. It is Liberals in the lead for the first time since general election was called .
  3. First off as starter I am not left. Not even center. I consider my political views as center right. I have voted for conservatives more often than Liberals especially during the 1988 when Free Trade was a big election issue I campaigned strongly for conservatives as a politically active student. Second, how do you know no one complained? I wasn't a member of this board when Chretien or Trudeau were in power but I never consider multi-party system totally a democracy. I always advocate a multi party election as the first phase of any election followed by a second round general election where only the top two parties would remain in competition and the rest would be eliminated from the race. This guarantees we will have a 50% votes for the winning party.
  4. Thank you very much Waldo. I will read the articles and see if what they promise would change our electoral system for better. Thanks again. It does certainly pays off big time to be a member of this board in many occasions.
  5. A conservative minority likely will not last long either and would fall to a Liberal-NDP coalition and again democracy will be restored even in this case as the two parties represent 65%+ of total votes and likely over 50% of eligible voters. And please it is a debate don't make personal attacks (like shame on me stuff just because of my choice). Lets debate the issues related to thread instead.
  6. Yes extreme right elements in former reform party are now in the conservative party some even having high positions. It shows in their speeches, actions and their policies. Canadians though are smarter than that to elect them to another majority (you fool me once shame on you you fool me twice shame on me) and all the polls confirm that. October 20th we will win back our democracy and our country with a new government so celebrate now all you can as you won't get any more chances later.
  7. I am not an expert on the subject in fact I don't know how either party is proposing to change the electoral system in Canada but what I do know is what we have is not fair or even democratic. I have posted about the shortcoming several times before and my concerns and issues. My issues best demonstrated in last election that the conservatives receiving 39% of the vote formed a majority (wait this is not correct they received 25% of eligible votes as about 30 to 35% did not participate in voting as they did not like conservatives or any other parties, their policies or their leaders or all of above). In other words they form a majority by receiving only 25% support vote. In other words 75% of us did not like them. By forming a majority with only 25% of voters vote they dictate the rest of us (the remaining 75% who did not like or agree with them) how to live our lives by legislating the morality and their mandate was a 25% votes mostly by religious right. I don't consider this fair or democratic and I welcome any proposed change. I yet have to find time and read about the details of what Trudeau is proposing. To make the matter possibly worse even this year they may receive about 32% of total votes (or only 20% of eligible votes) and form a government!!!!!.
  8. Yeah it pays off to have some passion and warmth rather than arrogance and cold blood. Address the real issues like jobs, economy and the environment rather than build on hate and niqab for which only two women affected since 2011 but they try to magnify the issue and build support on it. Shame.
  9. Hopefully we will have a more civil and respectful and democratic government in place after October 19th which would end all these unacceptable practices. The campaign of build and grow on hate appears to be backfiring on them as per recent polls and hopefully this trend will continue in the coming days.
  10. Yeah sure look at the tactics he is using...... Latest polls contradicts regaining voters much though.
  11. Duceppe did well in pointing out that Harper conservatives deal with Saudi Arabia while opposing niqab. Trudeau did well in pointing out that Quebecers and Canadians are concerned about jobs and economy and not niqab that conservatives are trying to divide and gain support Mulcair did well when he pointed out Harper trying to use niqab as a political tool to gain . Harper was a disaster. He again made niqab a major part of his final speech and followed party line to divide and grow his party's support on the hate for Muslims. Since 2011 there has been only 2 cases where women refused citizenship for niqab reason. It is not a major issue he is trying to show it is making it a major policy hiding his disastrous economic failures and hi party's undemocratic acts.
  12. Liberals taking off http://www.ctvnews.ca/politics/election/nanos-polls NANOS TRACKING RELEASED OCT. 3, 2015, 6 AM National Ballot - In the latest Nanos tracking completed Friday evening the Liberals had 34.6% support followed by the Conservatives at 30.5%, the NDP at 25.1%, and the Greens at 4.8% nationally. Battleground Ontario - There has been a noticeable movement in one of the key battlegrounds in favour of the Liberals over the past two evenings of tracking. Support for the Liberals in battleground Ontario stands at 43.6% while the Conservatives are at 33.8%, the NDP at 18.6% and the Greens at 4.0% It appears conservatives' build and grow on hate and division (niqab) campaign is backfiring........ Nanos poll: Liberals trend up for last 2 nights of tracking
  13. Excellent link. Thank you for sharing.
  14. I don't like neqab and I feel that those who want to wear it by choice are better off staying home than coming here and when they come here if they don't like the way we live then they should go back where they come from instead of trying to change our way of life. All that said I respect a choice and especially a woman's choice. If it is indeed her choice and not cultural pressure or pressure from family, husband then yes she should have the right to wear it.
  15. May be that is why their supporters are highest among high school educations!!!! Even by pro-conservative EKOS poll...........
  16. Wonder why this EKOS poll is always out of phase with all other polls!!!!!
  17. I am suggesting that on one hand they condemn oppression of women and see neqab as a sign of oppression on one side of their mouth and at the same time having a friendly relationship with the biggest oppressor of women, namely The regime in Saudi Arabia. On one hand condemning human right violations by their adversary (Iran) and at the same time making an ally and friend out of other oppressive regimes like Saudi Arabia.
  18. May be but the conservatives are building and growing on it by a deliberate campaign policy. And you haven't explained if they really are against women's oppression and see niqab as a sign of oppression then why they are so friendly with Saudi Arabia and the recent huge trade deal mostly military equipment?
  19. Interesting enough the conservatives are quite ready to make a 19 billion dollar trade deal with a country which has the worst human rights records when it comes to women and which forces women to wear neqab and violates their very basic human rights by depriving them even from the right to drive. That is of course Saudi Arabia. All I can say is shame on hypocrites.
  20. Some recent polls suggest conservatives moving to the top and even on the brink of forming another majority. It is real sad that they appear to have acquired this late support based on hate for the neqab and stripping off the citizenships for those not born or even whose parents nor born in Canada (and I am sure they would extend it to their grandparents too if that will bring them a few more hate votes) NOT based on what they plan for economy, the environment, the nation or future of democracy which they have shattered in Canada. Interesting enough they are quite ready to make a 19 billion dollar trade deal with a country which has the worst human rights records when it comes to women and violates their very basic human rights by depriving them even from driving. That is of course Saudi Arabia which forces women to wear neqab.
  21. The liberals are indeed leading HERE as 33.5 is greater than 31.9, but yes statistically speaking it is a tie due to 2.8% margin of error.
  22. I am only stating the facts and figures. It is for reader to decide for herself or himself. I believe Trudeau has promised a change somehow in a fairer manner. I don't know the details yet have to do some research on how he plans to change it. May be the Tories can make it mandatory. Vote or lose your citizenship!!. It is a good fit to their policies
  23. If your prediction materialize this will mean the Tories will form a government with 31.9% of votes in other words they will form a government with about 20% of eligible voters agreeing with them and voting for them (as some 30 to 40% of those who disagree or don't like any of the parties including conservatives will not participate) and their policies. In other words this means that 20% of religious right and the rich will dictate the remaining 80% how to live their lives. Democracy at work will be I am sure!!!!
  24. This poll seems to have topped the conservatives consistently since September 10!!!!!. It contradict almost every other poll that have the three parties switch places for top many times over since then.
  25. I anticipate a lot of last minute progressive swing voters to Liberals in tight ridings as many would remember the 4 year nightmare they have been through this time round and will do what is necessary to minimize a repeat.
