Still, what do you think of the Muslims I don't like? We all agree about the Muslim's I don't dislike. When I read your comments I think how they would affect Muslim people in my community. In our schools, all children are taught and practice acceptance and respect regardless of differences. You don't show the respect that our school children do. Muslims in Canada have a right to live in peace without being dehumanized by people smearing them because of their religion or their clothing. You're not doing a very good job of distinguishing between people and their religion. I won't discuss their religion because I have no interest in any religions. But people must be able to practice their religion freely in Canada within the law, and without people smearing all of them - inciting hatred against them - because of their religion. Your initial comments dehumanized all Muslims because of the actions of some extremists. That's not acceptable. Words are important. Choose them carefully.

Ya, ignoring. Lol I remember all of those 'Canadian values' struggles - Charter of Rights, women's lib, abortion, equal pay, racial equality, affirmative action, same-sex benefits, same sex marriage ... The Conservatives fought hard against every one. Now they're the great guardians of those 'Canadian values' ... because ... Islam? But there's a much more virulent hatred of Muslims out there too ... infesting every discussion.

Military recruiting - anyone but white men.
jacee replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Perhaps you should listen to what the army says about it: The Canadian Forces believes a more diverse group is also a more effective group. “It’s important in that it gives us operational effectiveness,” Brig.-Gen. Virginia Tattersall said in an interview. “If we were all that one sort of vanilla, you won’t get that same range of opinions, those different ways of being able to think about issues, that different approach to how to solve a problem.” -

Problem-solving is always about considering all possible solutions. A variety of perspectives always bring more possible solutions to the table. -

Yes we did think about that, but no hiring process can be absolutely objective: There is always subjective judgement involved and it turned out that the white men making the judgements tend to just hire more white men like them. So ... Affirmative Action was born back in the '80's I think. And women are still only 15% of the CAF. -
The Liberals "Open and transparent" government.

Yup. Libs just carry on where the Cons left off. Then Cons carry on where the Libs left off. A never-ending grab for power and money. Will we ever smarten up and get off the Lib-Con seesaw? -
How Does Canada Get Out of Debt?
jacee replied to Robert Greene's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Taxme is absolutely right this time. We'll never be allowed to get out of debt because then the banksters wouldn't make any money on us. -
Yes, perhaps it would be better if the government got out of the business of making laws about what we can and cannot consume, deregulate everything. It costs a lot of money in policing, courts and incarceration that could be better spent on eg health care.

You all know that I take an anti-racism stance. However, fighting an election over that issue is to me just an indication of how divisive and ineffective both the Conservative and Liberal Parties have become at actual governance. <shaking my head at the Lib-Con games and nonsense>

St George had Syrian, Greek, Turkish and Israeli heritage https://www.indy100.com/article/st-georges-day-syrian-video-t-shirt-far-right-tell-mama-stunt-video-8883816?amp Apparently his mother was Syrian (Christian), and His birthplace was then in Syria (??). His claim to fame was refusing to denounce his Christianity, so he was beheaded. I think it just shows that today's far right are naive about how multicultural history really is. Lol

Interesting perspective: https://globalnews.ca/news/4450927/canada-armed-forces-diversity-goals-digital-recruiting/ "The Canadian Forces believes a more diverse group is also a more effective group. “It’s important in that it gives us operational effectiveness,” Brig.-Gen. Virginia Tattersall said in an interview. “If we were all that one sort of vanilla, you won’t get that same range of opinions, those different ways of being able to think about issues, that different approach to how to solve a problem.” The Canadian Forces says that, as of the most recent fiscal year-end, on March 31, 2018, just 15 per cent of the regular force were women, a ratio that’s hardly budged since 2016 when it was 14.4 per cent. DND’s own target is to push that ratio to 25 per cent by 2026." I think the panic about young white men being passed over is very overblown. I also think women are wisely avoiding a career that is known to carry substantial risk of sexual assault, sexual harassment, and coverups of serious incidents. -
An anti-hate group said it wanted to educate nationalists about the heritage of England's patron saint Far-right protesters were tricked into wearing t-shirts reading "St George was Syrian #DefendDiversity" this weekend. https://www.joe.co.uk/politics/far-right-prank-st-george-228846 Well that'll give 'em pause for thought.

jacee replied to Robert Greene's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Edited Clinic (federal) Clean up (provincial) Compensation (both ... and govs can sue the company) And NO, industries do not get welfare handouts as "incentive" to obey the law. They get sued, fined, jailed if they don't. -
