  1. You should try that sometime! Merry Christmas.
  2. I'd guess those voting for $9 are owners/employers who cheap out on staffing, training, materials and likely everything else. Don't buy products or services from cheapskates: They will be inferior and crappy, and that business won't last long, because the owners just don't have a head for business.
  3. So tonight is actually Winter Solstice. We're on our way to Spring soon, folks! Enjoy the longer days!
  4. Nobody's offended by Merry Christmas. Christians made up that nonsense so they could feel offended, and offend others too!
  5. Wow.
  6. Those are all pagan. : )
  7. That's why I love Winter Solstice! It's always something to be thankful for. : )
  8. That applies to "spouse or partner", not elderly parents. Nonetheless, I would assume that the same rules would apply: Your sponsor is usually required to provide for your basic needs for three years after you get permanent resident status, even if you separate from her/him. Therefore, if you leave your sponsor during those three years, and receive social assistance, your sponsor will owe that money to the government. You may also be able to apply for spousal support or child support from your spouse or partner.
  9. Link? I'll believe that only when I see the evidence.
  10. Simply not true. In addition to 4 GO hubs in/out of the city, the LRT connects to the downtown local bus hub that serves the entire city. Some people will never get out of their cars. They are not the target population, but they are the loudmouth opposition. They will find a lot less congestion as they speed through downtown (all they ever care about) with 600 passenger LRT trains than with the 12 buses that one train replaces. The Chamber of Commerce - the bastion of Conservatism - weighs in on Ford's big mistake: https://raisethehammer.org/article/3718/hamilton_chamber_of_commerces_statement_on_ford_government_revoking_support_for_hamilton_lrt Hamilton has seen unprecedented investment along the B-line since the province committed to funding the LRT. In fact, the city experienced a 500% increase in new residential units downtown. ... “It’s hard to hear the province’s ‘Open for Business’ mantra without laughing. This decision directly harms business and private investment in our city”, said Keanin Loomis, President and CEO of the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce. “Furthermore, it is irresponsible and reckless management of hard earned tax dollars. " The CoC is not exactly pussy-footing around Ford! Lol
  11. No, I have something against Christian homophobes. If there's a gay Conservative leader who's out and openly married to a man, the Christian homophobes will likely desert the Party. Lol
  12. Links please?
  13. Nonsense. LRT is specifically designed to get people in/out of the city by connecting to GO, and also to efficiently serve the very overloaded bus line that it replaces, and accommodate new large residential developments planned along the route. 1 LRT train = 6-7 articulated buses = ~12 regular city buses.
  14. People who don't understand complex developments dismiss them as 'boondoggles'. You, Ford and Skelly share that tendency.
  15. Do you know how many buses it takes to fill a GO train? Lol The LRT is much more efficient in transporting more people faster, reducing congestion and pollution, accommodating much denser developments downtown.
  16. Nonsense. The LRT was designed and partially provincially funded BECAUSE it was to be part of the Ontario-wide transit network. LRT would link to FOUR GO TRANSIT hubs, carrying many more commuters than buses can, in and out of the city, and faster. If you know that little about the LRT functions, perhaps you shouldn't be commenting with your inaccurate 'facts', but asking questions instead.
  17. You're just WRONG about that. The LRT links to GO trains/buses in/out of the city. In fact, Hamilton has 4 GO Transit hubs, all near the proposed LRT. I have little stake in this and no strong feelings as I don't use transit much anymore (walk, bike, cab). However, I am disgusted that Ford is lying and fudging facts, and then refusing to even release the calculations that led to this 'decision'.
  18. The Chamber of Commerce and the downtown developers disagree with you.
  19. Hamilton intended to pay its share, updating infrastructure along the route to accommodate new development, costs for operating and maintenance of LRT, construction overruns, etc. The LRT line would serve the busiest route in the city, and *it does link commuters to 3 GO Transit stations serving Niagara to Toronto (and links east-west Windsor-Oshawa, and more). Ford has faked the data, claiming it'll cost "5 times" the original estimates, a huge lie as they're including *30 years of operating & maintenance costs, not just construction costs, and they're *excluding any revenues that offset the costs. Hamilton doesn't elect many Conservatives and Ford has only one pathetic rep to consult, Donna Skelly, a disgraced media 'pundit' who has never taken a bus or train in her life, never lived downtown but in the burbs where car is king, never reads any paperwork to do her job properly, and has repeatedly shown her ignorance and lack of capacity to comprehend complex issues. She and Ford have a lot in common. Lol
  20. Well, that would get rid of the religious-right Conservative votes. Lol
  21. For Canadians, it's the best day of the year: The days get longer from there, the darkness subsides. Nobody is saying it replaces any religious celebration. It's just a very human reason to celebrate, to be thankful, a reason we all share across all religions ... or no religion. Nothing religious or dogmatic about it, no 'faith' or 'beliefs' required. It's just a physical fact of our earth that we all enjoy ... especially in the north.
  22. Wow. Something wrong there. That isn't right.
  23. Ya, that's a big complication not addressed in the letter. Lol Remains to be seen how it's addressed in the policy/regulations.
  24. For someone with such strong anti-immigrant feelings, you really don't seem to know much about it: Sponsored elder immigrants are supported by sponsors. They often care for grandchildren, so both parents can work, or they may also work in a family business, etc. They do not get "pensions" - CPP - unless they work and contribute. Sponsored immigrants are supported by sponsors, and do not get "welfare". All Canadian seniors get OAS & GIS if they meet the residency requirement (10 years? 20 years? Not sure. Look it up.). Yes, Argus, their sponsors do provide for them when necessary. That is exactly what sponsored immigration means. And I doubt that any potential Conservative leader is going to change those current rules that are already in place, meet even your strict requirements, and are working well.
  25. To clarify, you want a Conservative leader who will deny health care and seniors' benefits to all first generation immigrants, because they're "foreigners"? Or only those in the country for a specified time? How exactly would you define who qualifies, and when, as belonging to our "community with shared values and sense of shared identity." ? When they become citizens? After 10 years here? 20 years? What would be your criteria? I just don't yet see how the Conservative leader of your choice could accommodate your wishes in platform or policy. What would such policy say?
