What do Toronto and Penticton have in common?

What are coloured people? Mayor apologizes to Miss Universe -
It is pretty clear what your problem is as I have stated before. You can't base everything on money, but you haven't figured out yet that money is not the end all and be all to quality of life. Our health care costs are manageable. Look at the progressive steps Manitoba has taken recently to bring in nurses to assist some doctors rather than paying other doctors much higher wages to do the same job.

Global warming doesn't exist, does it?
mirror replied to mirror's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Now we even have a president of the US warning about global warming. Unfortunately it is not the current president: Clinton issues warning about global warming Progressive people are going to have to find ways for corporations to make money healing our global warming crisis. Only then will they take an interest in working on solutions to help solve the problem. -
Bush to announce his choice for SCOTUS
mirror replied to Shady's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Seriously this guy given the opportunity would take away women's abortion rights. Is this the kind of person we want on the Supreme court? I don't think so unless you have no respect for women. It's that simple. -
In Canada we have an abundance of all material things and yet we still have poverty. If you truly wanted a fair system, not exploitive of the poor as it is now, read this: The Repair of Taxation This explains quite clearly what Canada's taxation problems are, why the system is so unfair to the poor and even the middle class, and how to fix the system.

Bridge bike lanes get green light This is brilliant strategy on behalf of a very courageous Vancouver council which will no doubt ensure their re-election this November. Finally we have a city council listening to the people in their city. As far as I am concerned we are definitely overgoverned, and we need to abolish the useless provincial governments. Muncipal and federal governments are all we need in this great land of ours.

While he was in power Mulroney began the dismantling of Canada's railways. Now big trucks have taken over our roads in Canada, and are severely eroding our Canadian lifestyle to say nothing about the negative impact on the environment and our health with those cancer causing diseal fumes. Truck company told to pay damages for deadly crash

Income redistribution by our governments is the Canadian way. Charities are a cop out and are just another tool for the rich to oppress the poor. And studies have shown that left to their own the rich do not support charity as much as the poor. That is why we need governments to enforce the redistribution. In Canada we don't value people only by their bank accounts. And I don't believe you when you say you as concerned about the rich abusing the system as much as the poor, as all you do is attack the poor. As I said bullys attack the weak. Think about that.
-
This is so typical. Why not look up at the people at the top, the corporate welfare bums, that are getting away with massive tax breaks than a few people at the bottom of the ladder that need our help. Of couse this is the bully mentality to pick on the weakest people in society. Where's the courageous principled lifestyle in that?

'No threat' ... then three weeks later bombers struck Perhaps we can put this baby to rest now as it is so painfully obvious that the UK presence in Iraq contributed to the London attacks. It is pitiful to see adults such as Tony Blair lie about this issue to his people, but I suppose he has no choice, otherwise he might as well resign for his disasterous error in judgment supported the US going into Iraq. And then we wonder why more and more people tune out of politcis and the entire electoral process. What is most discouraging is that Blair is head of the Labour Party not the Coonservative Party where he belongs, so there are no other progressive forces to oppose him politically except from within Labour's circles. What a friggin mess the UK is in politically.

Anti-terror team targets imam Now this is something that I agree with and if this cleric is really inciting violence against others we should turf him out of Canada or if we can't do that, send him to jail for a long time and shut down his Mosque. Enough is enough and we need to show all people that violence is not acceptable in Canada. We need to act firmly and quickly though.

Western policies are to blame, says Livingstone Well there you have it folks. Livingstone by-the-way is not some raving religious nut of a suicide bomber, he is the mayor of London. The West of couse contribulted to these suicide bombings. So when the people in the US ask themselves why they were attacked one of the things they can do is look in the miror. Americans need to ask themselves why they reelected Bush for a second term. What a huge mistake that was.

It's not just because it might be an Arab website, it's also the fact that it's called Jihad Unspun. That should be a dead give-away that it's nothing close to an impartial source. I still stand by iraqbodycount.net. Now, I know for some of you Bush haters, you'll be disappointed. I know that for your "cause" the more dead Iraqi's the better, but your numbers just aren't accurate. So please stop inflating the number of casualties for poltical purposes. It's shameful and disgusting. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> What absurd and inappropriate comments. The number of deaths in Iraq combining civilian and military deaths is at 125,000 or more and rising. and for every death there are probably 3-4 people injured. You can run but you can't hide. The number of deaths is staggering.

Are First Nations About to Enter Lumber Industry?
mirror replied to mirror's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Supreme Court rejects aboriginal logging claim Interesting reasons for rejecting the arguments of the first Nations people. I wonder what kind of impact this ruling will have on the rest of the country. -
Are First Nations About to Enter Lumber Industry?
mirror replied to mirror's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I wish our governments would force any forestry company who is logging in Canada to do it in a way that we have substainable forests. We need to ensure that we are replanting more than we cut down, becuase of the devestation of the forests on the planet. We need these trees to stay alive amongst other things. -
Actually Lanclet the British medical journal projected last fall that there were already over 100,000 deaths in Iraq so that figure of 128,000 is probably accurate when you add both civilian and military casualties. Just because it is an Arab website, if that is what it is, does not mean it is not accurate.
-
Our aboriginal community is awaiting a Supreme Court decision today on whether or not they will be able to enter the lumber industry. It would be wonderful motivator and morale booster for our First Nations peoples to be able to get a supportive decision from our judicial system. If they do get the court decision that they are hoping for, and in light of the issues surrounding global warming, do you think they will treat our forests in a healthier way than these multinational companies with their clearcuts? Mi'kmaq await forestry decision

It is all about the greed factor, the rich against the poor. Strange isn't that people use the system to get themselves into a stronger financial position then want to deprive others of the same opportunity. Ideally governments are there to protect the less fortunate and to reditribute the wealth. However the system is perverted by secret corporate lobbyists who control governments and governments are now to a large extent for politicians, is who gets the next contract. There are two things you can count on in this life, death and the rich complaining about paying taxes.

Ummmm does anyone understand economics, Corporations and Wealthy people hold a lot of power and also have a lot of CHOICES (MONEY TALKS). In today's COMPETITIVE world, countries compete for the brightest and the wealthiest in order to benefit that country and also it must provide a benefit to the wealthy individual/corporation. If there is no benefit to those who hold potential investment dollars, then those investment dollars move to jurisdictions where there is a benefit. If I can get a better deal in another politically stable country, thats where my money will go. That loss of investment dollars is lost for good and means less investment money for building capital, means higher unemployment. The effects of that loss of investment dollars is huge and involves a large ripple effect. SO YES err we do need to keep them lower too remain competitive. Well these problems have plagued Canada right across all provinces and political parties, even if we tripled the amount dollars thrown into health care, nothing will change, in a few years we would be complaining about the same issue. HEALTH CARE NEEDS AN OVERHAUL. There is more than enough money in the system, its the inefficient spending that causes the most stress on the system, just like there is more than enough money for the Feds to properly fund USEFUL public programs. Inefficient use of the public purse is what hurts the most. Its great that the left wingers are all for the common man, its great that people still care. But I wish for the life of me that anyone who considers themselves left wing would have to attend mandatory first year university economics. Then finally the left wingers could join us right wingers back in reality and peace and happiness will be enjoyed by all. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Let me tell you a story about first year economics. David Suzuki when he was attending university enrolled in a first year economics class. During the first class he asked the instructor how corporations accounted for polluting the environment. The instructor being quite knowledgeable in economics said that corporations do not account for pollution in their financial statements. Suzuki withdrew from the class the next day as he did not want to waste his time on nonsense. Nuff said.

Global warming doesn't exist, does it?
mirror replied to mirror's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Restoring Scientific Integrity This is quite a sad indictment of our corporate and political leaders. to attempt to try and confuse or mislead societies, concerning issues relating to their health and welfare all in the name of the allmighty dollar. The greed factor is alive and well but what about these people's offspring, their children and their grandchildren. I can understand them not caring about you and me but do they not even care about their own families' future? And how tragic that these scientists are being subjected to such obstructions in their work. -

What I found troubling in that heat wave deaths story is that they don't include any deaths of illegal immigrants. Jeez what a country - illegals don't even exist. Global Warming Solutions
