Part of the game being played here is how one define's one tier health care and two tier health care. How do you define it, and how does the party you support define it? Here is one party's definition of two tier health care: -
Think about it. Kigour gone. O'Brien gone. Cadman gone. Parrish remaining independent Revealed that Harper actually told Grewal to not tape the prime minister The Martin Liberals now cannot even entertain the possibility of a confidence vote in the Fall as they will surely be defeated according to the latest seat count. And now with this latest poll that came out this week, showing the Harper Conservatives have narrowed the gap, and the Layton New Democrats firm in the low 20s, if an election were called today, the Liberals would probably not even be forming a minority government. And listen to the words of a Liberal, granted no fan of Martin, but a Liberal nevertheless. July 29, 2005

Parrish, Liberals still on outs What makes this such a farce is that within in a few more months PM Martin may not even be the prime minister any more, and then we will see whether Parish and the other Liberals want Martin any more. In the meantime I presume the Liberals can count on her vote for what it's worth, which may be worth quite a lot before this minority government is over. Parish needs to learn some negotiating skills. Perhaps Jack Layton and the New Democrats could teach her some.

Police arrest fifth London bomb suspect Someone's talking...........who could it be?
-
Everyone knows how badly Harper is doing. What the Liberals are trying to keep secret is how bad PM Martin is doing. I mean, come on now, PM Martin is the leader of our country and he doesn't even command 50% approval from Canadians.
-
Actually Harper asked Grewal not to tape record the prime minister which sounds quite honourable to me. I think the Martin Liberals need to stop with the smear campaign against the Conservatives and focus more on their own internal party problems like possibly replacing PM Martin as leader before the next election, if they they entertain any hope of forming another majority government again. The loser from what I see in the polls is none other than PM Martin. Rating Falls Again for Canada’s Martin

Great news, as four suspected July 21 London bombers have been captured. That must be a relief to the Brits although other attacks may occur down the road. Hopefully the people of Iraq will find peace one day soon.

House of Commons representation at present: 98 Cons + 54 Bloc + 2 Ind (Kilgour & O'Brien) = 154 seats 133 Liberals + 19 NDP + 1 Ind (Parish) = 153 - 1 Speaker = 152 seats Vacancy - 1 seat Total - 308 seats If there is another confidence vote in the House of Commons the Liberals could be defeated. What the Liberals need to do is call a by-election right away in Cadman's old seat, and/or get a Conservative to take over as speaker, otherwise they could be toast.

This is the largest poll we have had in the past six months, and still no news in the mainstream media. Do the Liberals have that much power to be able to supress negative news about themselves, or will we read about it in tomorrow's press? Link

Maybe this is why he ran:

Circling China will lead to no good I wish I could say these people are raving lunatics, but they aren't, that it what makes this such a big problem. My goodness, what are these people thinking, and what will they come up with next?

Which party has the internet helped the most?
mirror replied to mirror's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I agree with you that initially when the internet first came out it benefitted the Conservatives the most, however I think now it has benefitted the New Democrats the most, as they feel the least represented in the mainstream press, and the internet allows them to readily access and distribute social democratic material. -
Changes since the last election: Party / Last Election / July 28/05 / Change Liberals: 37% / 34% / Down 3% Conservatives: 30% / 31% / Up 1% New Democrats: 16% / 20% / Up 4% Bloc: 11% / 11% / No change
-
Some people, though not everyone, think that our mainstrem press is biased in favour of, or against, one political party or anorther. Which political partiy, or parties in Canada nationally, do you think has benefitted most from the impact of the internet, which allows us to easily and frequently read both the mainstream and alternate press, and websites, as well as using discussion boards? Why?
-
If you make all of your calls around noon on weekdays you will not include the opinion of people with 9-5 jobs in your poll results. This introduces a bias into the poll. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> But there is nothing to suggest they are doing that. The other recent polls have connections to the Martin Liberals, and were a lot smaller in size as well. I think Environics from what I have seen is the most scientific poll out there recently. I can understand Martin Liberal supporters trying to discredit this poll as, compared to the other recent polls, it looks devastating for them.

My point exactly. Round of applause. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah, it was real hard to convince mirror that two tier is bad. Your point would be better made if all the things you didn't say were bad about Australia's "two tier" system weren't just as bad with our "one tier" system. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> We actually already have a two tier system in Canada by creep. All we are trying to do is roll it back before it completely destroys our public system. -

Right - just like our two tier school systems. Absurd! PM Martin has a problem with bafflegab, but I see it is catching. -
I don't think whether you call someone at noon or in the evening is going to result in changed voting preferences. I think someone who does not like the Liberals at lunchtime is going to like them any better in the evening. One thing the large sample size Environics poll tells me is that the Liberals might be in serious trouble, much more trouble than they realize, because of the lack of popularity for Martin. Maybe they should consider changing their leader if they hope to form any kind of a government next time.
-
I remember when one of the other pollsters announced their recent results, it was suggested that Canadians wanted a majority government. This latest poll does NOT give any indication of that whatsoever, and I think that was strictly Liberal hype - all smoke and mirrors. Maybe the Liberal tactics of trying to scare Canadians about the dangerous Conservatives is starting to backfire on the Liberals. With the Ndp holding low 20s percentile support, it looks like we have a solid 3 way race for a change.
-
Wells is a perceptive guy. I am blown away by these poll results. Maybe the folks that have been saying that some of the other recent polls were Liberal pollsters are on to something. Environics don't seem to be attached to any political party, and their sample size is a good size, much larger than the others..
-
Thiese results are quite different than the other recent polls - have the Liberals been trying to smoke us? Voter support for federal parties is holding steady, with the Liberals maintaining a SLIM lead over the opposition Slim being the optional word here. Lib - 34% Con - 31% Ndp - 20% Bloc - 11% Other - 4%

It sure sounds like Australia is a very good example why Canada needs to have one public medical system only, otherwise with two tier the private system will drain off the resources from the public system. -
MP on Gen. Hillier: 'Muzzle the beast' MP Parrish furious over Afghanistan mission Well there go Parrish's chances of rejoining the Liberals I suppose but she is igniting a debate that we need to have in this country anyways. Is the real reason Canada is in Afghanastan to ensure the US gets its pipeline built there?
