I'm having a hard time finding anything to back up the Queens dissaproval of Margaret Thatchers refusal to impose sanctions on the arpatheid government of South Africa. But I do recall reading some articles about this at the time. Another point is the monarchy refusing the Syrian invitation at the latest royal wedding. However I did find this you may find interesting Political Ideas of Queen Elizabeth 2 eHow.com WWWTT

Actually you are wrong! Queen Elizabeth 2nd has publicly criticized Margaret Thatcher(when she was PM of the UK) in the 80's or early 90's when Thatcher was trying to gain support for the South African apartheid government(of that time) within the commonwealth. WWWTT

I have never understood how making up a hypothetical reverse scenerio plot can make a good foundation to base an argument upon. If I was to do the same we would never get anywhere so I will not add further WWWTT

I have never bein called a sychophant before. What's a sychophant? WWWTT

Ok you have me at a disadvantage now. I am not completely clear on what has happened or was proposed in the past in regards to which province receives how many reps and their exact population numbers. There are many numbers and ratios to crunch here. I do remember hearing something about Alberta receiving more rep. in the past and that was frowned upon by the opposition for obvious reasons. But I would have to do some fact finding and research to properly make a decission on where I stand on this topic. I only briefly used this topic as a small example and I am not currently prepared to give this topic the attention it deserves, nor is this the appropriate thread. Please lets continue this debate in a more appropriately labeled thread and invite others who can contribute Thank You WWWTT

McGuinty won't apologize for secret G20 law
WWWTT replied to GostHacked's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Actually it is the law for people to carry identification with them when they are in public. However any public citizen does have to show anyone there identification.Ironic. I also believe that there are laws in regards to covering your face in public but I am unsure of specific details. WWWTT -
I do not believe you know what Ms. DePape is or is not aware of. You are implying that we have it so good that we should never do anything to improve the quality of our democracy. Her intetion(in my opinion) was to not only send a strong message to the Harper government but to also rally those whom disagree with the current governments agenda. I believe that it is the rally call that really bothers the conservatives the most! WWWTT

I do not soley blame the tories for this trend in the Canadian government to isolate and marganalize the strong merit rightfully awarded to public protest. As far as I am concerned the Liberals are partners with the tories in this crime against public participaction! WWWTT
-
Agreed! I am glad to here that the Brampton west riding will be splitting up and in the next federal election and my vote will have more weight. I believe there is no argument between all three major parties regarding this issue.Except perhaps Quebecs share of representation. WWWTT
-
Let me clarify that I have never asked or encouraged anyone to be violent or destructive in any thread or comment that I have made.Aswell I have never engaged in,participated or agreed with being destructive or violent. I have stated that it is unfortunate that any real change requires such behaviour! I believe that there are many ways to be desruptive without being destructive! Bridgette DePape has easily proven this! WWWTT
-
I am not sure if you are correct in saying or implying many people at the last G20.I am not sure if there is any data or stats available as to how many people participated in this protest compared to other signifigant rallies in the past 10-20yrs. The number of arrests was record breaking,no argument there! Amending legislation through the legal system is expensive! Ex.A person is charged with possession of a controlled substance. This person can plea not guilty for various reasons. If the charged person is successful than his/her case can be used in similar future cases. If this trend continues then judges will ask the government to amend the legislation as is currently writen. Case point-before the May 2nd election a judge did tell the government that Marihuana laws must be amended within 90 days to reflect current reality or something along those lines. But this is very involved and is taking us away from the thread. WWWTT
-
Strong point your making! Voting is a big part of the picture! And relative to who gets elected and what your viewpoint is. However 3 or 4 parties can not reflect all opinions or stress the order of importance of each issue that may arise. It has bein clearly shown that protesting is an integrall part of western civilization over the last 100-120 yrs. This is something that should be nurtured and encouraged, not penalized and shamed. WWWTT

Let me discuss the second part of your question. It seems obvious to me that when you arrest protesters, confine them or even just pen them in like cattle, this would be enough to discourage the citizens from being active in our society. Some level of disruption must be achieved from any protest for it to have any potency! Increasing the severity of punishment in relation to the level of disruption is encouraged by the government and police. Excellent example would be the last Canadian G20 and the McGuinty government passing of special legislation to enhance this. Another way Canadians can be involved in amending legislation is through the legal system. And thats freekin expensive!I do not have to explain how that is discouraging! WWWTT
-
Good question!Thank you for asking. The government has restricted where and when people can protest.Essentialy trying to "pen-in" protesters. And criminalizing protesters when they bring the protest out of the "designated" protest area. Aswell not encouraging public participaction in protesting is a passive way of discouraging change. There are other examples but I am limited by time to explore all the venues. Keep in mind that public protest is the only practical way the citizens of Canada can apply their input and/or opinion into the process of government decission making. Municipal governments do have public hearings and meetings to discuss local issues.Example would be re-zoning. And municipalities are usually more flexible or sympathetic to public protesting. This topic can be argued very well on both sides.Example is China. WWWTT

Our political system is reliant on contributions/participaction from the unelected public. Regardless of age, color or race. This is an unwriten rule that we all have benifited from and has improved the rights and freedoms of all Canadians. In the last ten or so years many Canadians have become very innactive in participating in our democracy. And this reluctance to participate is probably the largest contributing factor in the current stagnation in our system. I do not blame the citizens of Canada. The blame soley lies on the shoulders of different levels of Canadian government for discouraging public protest and criminalizing the participants! Protesters should not be treated so harshly by the police or the justice system. We should all find something we believe in that is not being addressed and get out there and protest the in-action of government, get arrested and stand up in court before a judge and tell him/her that it is every Canadians responsibility to become involved in our democracy. And even state cases where this has actualy happened. Politicians do not have a monoploly on directing the future of Canada, only if you let them! WWWTT

That sounds like a comment that an "all knowing" dictator would make WWWTT

If you are saying that I am not being clear I agree. Riding distribution does contribute to unfair representation in Canada, and that is a fact because the numbers do not lie. Rep by pop and area rep are only a small part of the status quo picture. The history of Canada has many examples of necessary signifigant change being ushered in only after protest, legal action or war. Many Canadians have become lazy and too dependant on only our election system to solve every problem that may come along. Actually a good cross analogy would be a late nineteenth century flim flam peddler selling a cure all snake oil remedy. "Buy the Canadian democracy and all your pains and ailments will disapear and you'll feel like a new citizen" There are many hypocrites here who say young people or many people do not get active in our political system. But when they do but do not like there message or direction they quickly denounce them and marginalize their intelligence. WWWTT

Ya thats right Canada has "free elections" I live in the riding of Brampton West, the most populous riding in Canada.PEI has about the same population and has four representatives! Ya thats real free or fair. The system is fixed to benefit a few privilaged and if you get out of line your a criminal and condemned as an enemy of the state. This country needs more people like Bridgette DePape and less people who always say "yes sir no sir". WWWTT
-
Actually for there to be any signifigant real change in this country there would have to be continuos, relentless and unfortunetly possibly violent protests in this country involving many.In the end we it would have to be something very similar to what has happened in some arab nations in the last few months. So that comment she made is in my opinion not far from reality. Judging from the views of some here any protest made against the current government would be labelled as bad and unjust even if the end result will benefit Canada and her citizens. WWWTT

Every comment that I have read of yours up until this one are completely relative to the view point of the commentator. I chose this one to highlight because so many politicians have abused the trust given to them by the voters in Canada. And somehow you feel that a 21 year old parliament page must adhere to a higher standard than that given any politician? WWWTT

As for what the fuck I've done in my life - I went zip-lining once and I'm deathly afraid of heights. That's being pretty brave. And how did this improve my life? WWWTT

Ya that rings a bell.I would have to go back and dig up to see what I exactly said(I wish I had the time). Man you like to twist words around. You think I'm stupid buddy? But thats not what I questioned your integrity about so don't play stupid games with me! WWWTT

I do not know her.So I can not honestly say I like or dislike someone I do not know. But I do like/admire her bravery. She stood up against someone and made her voice audible without saying a word so she has signifigantly proven her brilliance! I sincerely hope that her actions are contagious! WWWTT

When did I say the NDP would get a majority in the last election? You must be confusing me with someone else or you are lying. I have a life by the way,so if I am away from this site for two or three weeks I wouldn't look to much into my absence. Not responding to every little stupid thing anyone may say here is not a sign of weakness. WWWTT

Yes she is! And why is she not? Because you don't like her? WWWTT
