Coalition: September 2004, December 2008 & Now
Harry replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Here are the election results for 2004 L - 135 seats C - 99 seats B - 54 seats N - 19 seats I - 1 seat T - 308 seats So Martin has 135 seats, and Harper, Duceppe and Layton combined had 172 seats Duceppe talked quite a bit yesterday about Harper's 2004 clandestine meetings with Layton and Duceppe. At these secret meetings they even talked about how H of C committees were going to work, Harper even asked asked Duceppe what he wanted in the throne speech, they discussed how they were going to change the non-confidence vote process, and then they even went to Martin to tell him how things would work and Martin agreed because Harper, Duceppe, and Layton's combined seat total was a majority of the seats. It was quite informative. -
There has been Trudeau envy in Canada for a long, long time now. Sad to say the political comparisons are woefully unimpressive. And I'm not talking about Justin, whose political career is about to come to a screeching halt on May 2nd, I'm afriad. Anyway here's the latest leadership polling:

Hi WB, And thanks for your post. I guess I prefer to speak for myself. We have the polls to tells us what the collective is doing. How about yourself - do you speak for others here or just for yourself? -

Here it comes, and this is just starting to warm up. This Harper hypocrisy issue is not going away unfortunately for Harper. Harper has made a big, big mistake bringing up this reckless coalition stuff for the Conservatives. "Not by a backroom deal" Harper says today. Reflect on Harper's 2004 backroom meetings in hotels with the separatists and the socialists as you asbsorb that statement. Harper is going to ridiculed out of office if he keeps it up. -

YEGman Thanks for your comments but you are a bit late coming to party. All the girls have already left or are taken. Try doing a little research before you really step in it. We now have the most hypocritical prime minister we have every had in Canada. Harper is walking on real thin ice here, and my hunch he is going to get blown out of the water on it. Who else is sick of all these Harper lies? -

Well Duceppe did offer to provide Harper wil a copy of Harper's signed agreement with Layton and Duceppe, in case Harper lost his copy. I bet Harper wishes everybody had lost their copies after today. And who knows, maybe Duceppe or Layton taped the meetings for their memoirs, of course. Harper should save everyone the cost of hiring a detective and just fess up before this Harper coalition thingy ravels out of control on him. -

Speaking of the NDP: So now while we have Duceppe kicking Harper out of Quebec, the NDP is kicking the Conservatives out of Edmonton. What are the Liberals up to these days? What did Harper say our choices were today? Oh yea, we can choose between the stable Conservatives or the reckless coalition. When Harper mentioned coalition I thought is he was talking about himself, and when he mentioned "stable" I knew he was just shoveling more horseshit. -

Looks like Aaron Wherry has done his homework. Harper is defintely NOT going to be a happy camper about this. This credibility gap for the prime minister is growing and growing. How much longer does he think he can take Canadians for fools? -

Does anyone know how many clandestine meetings Harper had with Duceppe and Layton in 2004 before they reached their accord when Paul Matin was in power? Apparently there were quite a few. Maybe the media should ask Harper, or if we don't want to be lied to perhaps it would be better to ask Duceppe or Layton about that. -

Thanks August. I just was not quite clear what the author was getting it. Now that I have reread it I think the author was suggesting that Harper's gaffe was to talk about the possibility of the Conservatives coming in second in the number of seats, and therefore the Conservatives would not try to form the government if another party beat them by at least one seat. -
Thanks for sharing.

TimG, What kind of a fantasy world do you live in? Canada is not in a majority government situation. We have been in extended period of minority governments. Please don't tell me you don't you understand the difference.
-
Sorry August I missed your post, and yes I quite often disagree with Harper's policies. But please do me a favour and lose the words hatred and hate from your posts. It's getting tiresome - ok?
-
Bingo!
-
August you really do obsess about the word "hate". Not cool. You obviously don't like it but we are in an extended period of minority governments in Canada. That doesn't work for Harper as we saw the Harper Government found Guilty of Contempt of Parliament yesterday. Unfortunately Harper kept acting like he had a majority, but all he has ever had are minorities, and you have to be able to work with others in that kind of situation. Harper choose not to, and that is why we are having this 4th Canadian election in 7 years, several of which have been caused by Harper. I believe in the coalition and Duceppe is an integral part of it, and if Duceppe ran across Canada he would probably clean up.

Not sure what they are getting at here - does anyone know? Harper demonstrates unscripted words can turn a campaign around quickly http://ca.news.yahoo.com/harper-demonstrates-unscripted-words-can-turn-a-campaign-around-quickly.html -
Excellent punked. And I agree with you. IR tends to favour the Conservatives and EKOS tends to favour the Liberals.

Games Harper plays - "oh what a tangled web we weave, when we set out to deceive". What with Harper Goverment already in contempt of Parliament, and Harper already weakened on the ethics file, this coalition BS will come back to bite Harper in the ass. Harper could dig himself out of this mess by telling the truth, but will he? -

With all Harper's lies, Duceppe is going to chew Harper up and spit him out for breakfast like he did today at his presser. It's already the talk of the province, and Duceppe's plan is to rid Quebec of Harper once and for all. http://www.youtube.com/BlocQuebecois http://www.ledevoir.com/politique/canada/319703/le-defi-de-quebec
