Trudeau invites refugees to Canada, taunts Trump

'Oh boy, man' doesn't have the same ring to it. I don't picture you as really indignant right now. -

Dear God, woman. If you're not on the list, you will say anything to stay off the list. The people in these countries deal with Trumps every day. They know how to massage inflated egos. Of course, the peninsular Arabs should be at the top, esp. KSA. Nobody has done more to spread jihadism across the world than they have. -
People appreciate the effort. They admire pols who let themselves get booed. Nothing is more ridiculous than a managed crowd of supporters cheering every word.

What does Khadr have to do with any of this? Stick to the topic. -

The case demonstrates yet again how misleading initial reports of mass shootings can be. In particular, the number of shooters is often overestimated. -
Disarray is normal after a defeat - good for a party, really. The direction taken was a losing one so a period of internal debate is in order. Both traditional US parties will have problems dealing with the emerging anti-globalist trend. The Republicans have been solidly free trade and anti-Russian for decades. They just have to sit quiet for a while with Trump in charge but there are serious differences of opinion lurking just beneath the surface.

Why bother having a country at all, then? It does seem rather an elaborate waste of time and energy if we are just going to meekly agree with whatever some foreign psychopath yells at us. -

Economic interests are always important - NAFTA was signed by a Liberal govt after all (don't know if that would qualify as 'Left'). The only question is how much one should give up for them. How much is too much? -

What you are advocating does sound rather like appeasement, a prudent policy for a weak nation beside a belligerent one as long as we understand exactly what we are doing. Must say it doesn't sound like a very 'Army Guy' approach, really. -

I hope we can support our own PM at this difficult time. Of course, there are those who will criticize Trudeau for anything he does regarding Trump: if he is restrained they will call him a hypocrite; and if he's more candid they will complain about that too. -

Trump is not named in the tweet and given that he seems to spend an inordinate amount of time himself insulting other people in such messages, he doesn't have much to complain about really. -

America under President Trump
SpankyMcFarland replied to betsy's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Where there's no will, there's no way. Those promises to work in the boonies turn out to be surprisingly difficult to enforce. Young people want to live in cities and the medical associations are not willing to give sufficient bonuses (which would come from the pay packets of doctors in cities) to make the outback attractive. In my province there is a clear segregating tendency in the medical workforce: younger, urban, Canadian females; older, rural, foreign males. -

In medicine, the Canadians don't want to work in small towns at all. It's often IMG or nothing. -

I have worked with excellent physicians from Syria, Iraq and Iran and would consider myself lucky to do so again. Your immigration data may not be detailed enough to reflect that reality. -

Early days yet. The numbers detained and deterred from coming will mount up over the next four years. Some border wiseguy is alleged to have told a person to 'call Mr. Trump' if they had any complaints. Try a joke like that on one them and what sports they are. -

The odd thing about Iran is that its citizens have little interest in terrorism once they reach the US, as the record clearly shows, and the 'state-sponsored terrorism' is generally local, in Asia. There's something amateurish and capricious about springing this move both on travelers and on US officials who have to enforce it. Information could have been gathered first and then people could have been given fair warning it was coming. For Canadian recruiters, this could be good news. We may see some professionals with sought-after skills looking north for jobs. -

Tariffs won't stop automation taking manufacturing jobs away. Trump is offering an inaccurate diagnosis that will harm the patient. -

The order was stupid, though. If you are taking such a big step you have to plan and warn people ahead of time. Leaving permanent residents stranded in airports does not send a message of competence. -

That sounds more like it - in line with a larger effort to control people. Eventually, only the oligarchs will have two passports. -
Why Is Trudeau Taking The Credit?
SpankyMcFarland replied to betsy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
First rule of politics: always take credit when you can. You are going to be blamed for loads of things you didn't do so grab any good news that's passing. -

What if they possess another passport but don't travel on it?
