Attack ads? Bad taste? WHat...kind of like loud furniture ads or annoying car-dealer spots? Gee. Bad taste advertising. What a concept. Again, only interesting if those evil cons are doing it. Nothing new here. Besides, what exactly is bad taste about talking about your political opponent's bad points.

There is a minority government, I think it's pretty smart of the conservatives to keep on top of their opponents because as we all know, the opposition as a group could bring down the government in short order. It's a political strategy. Whats wrong with that?

Wal Mart is a good place to buy things if you want to save some money and aren't too concerned about long term quality or the logo on the shirt. If you're giong on a cruise or to Hawaii for a couple of weeks in the winter, it's a good spot to pick up some last minute things like flip flops, shorts, t shirts, socks or beach towel and some sunscreen. Generally the prices are amazing but you're not going to impress the A Listers at the high end cocktail party with their clothing. In terms of all the other socially concious stuff I don't really give two shits, but if that floats your boat then vote with your wallet, go buy your next golf shirt at a hemp store and quit your whining.

That is the way of this particular journalist's work. This is what he said last year: So was he wrong then or wrong now? wrong then

Here is the whole article by National Post and here is an excerpt - the saddest part is that this has been the case in one form or another for years in this country. link

Michael Moore 2 questions for the candidates
JerrySeinfeld replied to jazzer's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
This debate is all too often coloured with bias on BOTH sides. Americans are fed BS about how horrible socialized medicine is. But by the same token, we are fed BS about how horrible privatized health care is. Obviously both sides will have their merits. An ideal system would set aside ideology and try to incorporate the positive aspects of both public and private systems. I have done some reading on the French system and, though I hate to admit it, they have made some good attempts at a hybrid system. Moore demand for "free universal health care for all" is too ideological for an intelligent debate. In many instances, the private sector can do things more efficiently and makes more sense by and large. The key is to avoid having millions of people 100% uninsured or people dying because of lack of coverage. That would probably mean some kind of last-resort coverage for the needy would make some sense. That's a far cry from 'universal care for all". We in Canada already know the demongraphic perils and costs we face in the next two decades with such a system, which is why all countries with "universal" health care have explored and adopted some kind of private non-government system to take the stress off the public system. I believe Canada is the only G8 nation that has not publically acknowledged the need for some kind of private sector participation in the health care system (although it has allowed it to operate with impunity under the radar). People like moore get a lot of credit for "stimulating debate". But in my view, what people like Moore really do is stifle and limit debate, because they are far to one dimensional in their thinking and solutions. -
The Shifting Sands of Political Argument
JerrySeinfeld replied to KO2's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I don't think people have a political gene. I spent all of high school and most of university as a left wing socialist whiner. Over time I got smarter and more independant-thinking. I started to realize that not everything my pantywaiste prof says is the truth, and actually got out into the world and earned my own way with your own intelligence. I believe that my former left wing bias has actually made me even more conservative because I look back at my former rationales and it makes me laugh and laugh and laugh. And seeing other people try to use the very same arguments on me that I used to espouse myself just drives me even further to the right in the knowledge that people who espouse the left just never really graduated in their thinknig the way I did. My two cents -
Who says the planet is not warming? Why are you playing this merry go round with me? Remember this post? That was from post # 47. You reply was ,............................................. well nothing really. You just ignored it and went on. I am fast developing a negative opinion of you. Actually, the world stopped warming in 1998 and has been getting cooler ever since. Another little tidbit your econazi zealots won't tell you.

One of my favorite bits is when the David Suzuki site talks about how the computer modelling is similar to that used by "big wall street investment firms". This type of comment not only illustrates how out of touch the left is with mainstream finance, but just sheer ignorance. Anyone who knows the record of wall street computer forecasting models wouldn't be using them as a credible example of reliable forecasting!!!

Way too late for that I'm afraid. It is a done deal. The west has become their own worst enemy and adopting te mentality of the fanatics. Question is, who are more fanatical or more numerous? The Muslims or those who love to hate them? This kind of multi-culti brainwashed muzzak type of comment is tired and used up. The only reason we're still hearing this kind of hogwash is because Canada hasn't yet been inundated with the serious numbers of muslims and problems that europe has.

TEACHERS are entitled to EI benefits?
JerrySeinfeld replied to mikedavid00's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
As a normal straight thinking free-enterpriser, I think I speak for anyone with a job when I say: the unemployment rate in this country is virtually nil. Teachers who work part time and can't teach in the summer have made a bad career choice. First they milked the subsidized education system training to do a job that obviously isn't in demand (otherwise why would they be working part time). Then when they get into the work world and can't make any money, they apply for EI. If you made the MAJOR error of taking on student loans and miling the public system training for a low demand profession, you should suffer the consequences and... GET A FUCKING SUMMER JOB -
Let's try to avoid major generalizations for a moment and stick to the basic premise of my post, which is that I found the style of environmental videos being shown to the masses reeked of indoctrination. Let's aset aside the debate about the science for just one moment, and talk about the STYLE of the eco-nazis. It's very draconian. If you're a scientist and you provide evidence which contradicts the "consensus", you are slandered and ostracized. If you're a radio talk show host who asks David Suzuki about the quality of the science, he has a tantrum and walks out on the interview (this actually happened). If you question why "An Inconvenient Truth", which is LITTERED with complete UNTRUTHS, is being shown to childeren in school as part of the curriculum, you're labeled as an oil company sympathizer. There is a PR firm in Vancouver which has David Suzuki Foundation as a major client. This company has at least one person who'se FULL TIME JOB is to discredit and slander scientists who say anything that contradicts the mantra of global warming. Again, I wish to point out this is not a thread about science, it's a thread about STYLE and OPENNESS TO NEW THOUGHT (which is what science is really all about). If you have a group of people who wish to silence their critics, refuse to engage in intelligent debate and try to perpetuate mythical, false messages created by politicians to gradeschoolers, this behavior borders upon religion, BELIEF and indoctrination, rather than facts and truth.

A few years ago, a similar post could have started "What if Bush is right?" Both the Bush Administration and the GW environmentalists have used a similar approach to gain support - create mass hysteria by talking about danger and destruction and the need to act immediately or else. With this hysteria action is necessary, there is no time for debate. There is only one solution; the one that is currently on the table. Gore is right that the earth is warming, but he is wrong to generate hysteria. Kyoto is a poor solution in any event. Good post - I totally agree. Y2K is another good example...

Did anyone watch "Live Earth"? I breeezed past it a couple of times while flipping channels. I stopped on it for a bit and the Wembley concert would perodically fill in the blanks between bands with long annoying videos about being "eco-friendly" and how horrible we are to live in a developed part of the world (more self-loathing from the left). As I observed the scene something struck me: The thousands of faces gazing blankly at the screens above- spewing hatred for certain ways that we live our lives- seemed eerily like an indoctrination scene out of George Orwell's 1984. Did anyone else see this and get the same impression? Anyway, I found it kind of strange and, unfortunately, all to familiar in what has ceased to be an intelligent discussion and instead has morphed into some kind of quasi religion.

You haven't factored in the "x" factor on these poor scientists. What's the "x" factor? Simply, scientists who try to spurn debate or report different findings are slandered, ostracized and lose funding. It's career suicide to perpetrate research or debate on this issue contrary to the already "established consensus". In other words, the entire process, by it's very definition, is unscientific.

MDs, Islam, Medievalism & the Enlightenment
JerrySeinfeld replied to August1991's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues

Jack Layton Says Surrender.....
JerrySeinfeld replied to M.Dancer's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I think the National Post summed up Jumpin' Jack Flash best in this way: -
While co2 is just one variable I think the focus is on it because levels are increasing rapidly which has given it the potential to be a large warming factor in recent and coming decades. I don't think we can reduce co2 output and will have to just wait and see what happens. Doesn't the research show that climate warmed FIRST, followed by increases in CO2 levels?

July War with up to FIVE enemies!
JerrySeinfeld replied to buffycat's topic in The Rest of the World
Indeed. We can dicker about ideas all day long. Let's talk about FACTS. FACT: Hezbollah & Hamas have consistently shown their willingness and desire to use every military technology available to them to harm innocent Israelis. FACT: Hezbollah and Hamas are largely armed by IRAN and SYRIA. QUESTION: If Iran and Syria ship arms to Hezbollah and Hamas - which both have proven to use at every opportunity - what will happen if Iran gets the nuke? Connect the dots. There are only 3 or 4 of them and they're all lined in in a pretty straight line. -

Should global warming result in global cooling
JerrySeinfeld replied to noahbody's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I totally agree. I looked at the seawall around stanley park yesterday. There is still a good 4 feet of excess wall, even at the highest tide. By my calculation, that gives us thousands of years to build another foot or two onto the wall. Lemme see, first we'll have to find some money for an environmental impact study of adding a couple of feet...... duke it out in court with the Friends of the Old Seawall......monitor the scrap between Vancouver and the province over funding.....blame it all on the Conservative federal government, who will deny that there is an ocean at all then finally cough up.... find a contractor who has not retired from the 2010 windfall...... Thousands of years? Could be close...... haha I know - strange world we live in. Win a war in Iraq? Nope. Can't be done. Actually alter the overall climate we live in to suit our needs by changing the behaviors of everyone on earth? Sure. No problem. LOL.
