JerrySeinfeld replied to mikedavid00's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
This country's going to hell in a hand basket fast. -
That you consider these concer5ns legitimate is evidence of your ridiculousness.

Quietly, Scott, your posts are becoming some of the best out there. What better way to counter the ridulousness of liberal parochialism than with pure sarcasm Great job.
-
Are you sure you're not talking about the federal liberals? All I've seen so far is a government that has done exactly what it said it would do... On the GST - DONE On abiding by a free vote in parlaiment re: Gay Marriage: DONE On opting out of Kyoto: DONE On reforming the senate: DOING

That's just pure conjecture and direction of popular discontent. Our society is over saturated with parochial images of war and conspiracy - largely culivated by the limited experiences of the baby boom generation. So today - every war is Vietnam, every 9-11 is the kennedy assasination, every problem is the cause of some all powerful, right wing evil doing western superpower, and every solution is to have a sit in, sit back and be peaceful and all the worlds problems will magically float away. Becasue bush has had the courage to face serious worldwide threats, he has been demonized by the ADD public with no stomach for battle. Hence - "it's all Bush's fault" The Bali nightclub bombings? Bush Madrid Subway Bombings? Bush London Tube Bombings? Bush 9-11? Bush There is a serious mass knee jerk Bush hatred that should mayeb be looked at by some kind of mass therapist.

U.S. Presidential Elections 2008
JerrySeinfeld replied to moderateamericain's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
That's only because they're more representative and less party line. A democrat from urban michigan might not favor farm subidies in exchange for tax-credits for automakers whereas a dem from rural missisppiy probably likes the farm subsidies. It's a much richer political landscape out there in the US and generally americans don't have the willingness to let the government into their lives as readily as Canadians do. But in today's democratic party I'd make the observation that the nytjobs are ruling the madhouse. Centrism is out the window as the candidates fight over who supports universal healcare, childcare, etc etc. it's like some kind of freak show of long lost trudeaupians. Just as from time to time the GOP gets pushed too far off centre by it's religious zealots, the DEMs are being driven by the far left kooks right now which is why, by the time the hatred for GW bush gets old and the surge starts working, the reflex toward the Dems will fade and this far left strategy will be out of touch with Mr. & Mrs. America. -
U.S. Presidential Elections 2008
JerrySeinfeld replied to moderateamericain's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Time stamp me today saying Giuliani (spelling?) will be the 42nd(?) president of the united states -
In my opinion, George W Bush has presided over one of the most difficult periods in American history. Personally I see Bush the greatest President since Ronald Reagan. Again, during Reagans tenure the peaceniks marched through the streets convinced cruise missiles and the nuclear arms race was a massive waste of money and would ultimately lead to the destruction of the human race (gotta love those alarmist peacniks!). Sound familiar? The decrepit, left wing ideolog acadmics dismissed Reagan as a reckless cowboy, a stupid actor with no moral or policy compass, when in the end it turned out he was the only one with a path, a compass and a roadmap to victory. And he turned out to be right - and won the cold war. With success in Iraq now becoming more apparent as the surge is now working, again this is a great paralell to Reagan. Bush: a man with long term vision, not short term attention deficit disorder when things get a little tough. So when the surge starts to work will the dems and the new york times start to shift their position to "other factors" which are at play? Of course they will - they already are (NYTimes crediting the insurgents with "choosing not to take actions right now"). Just as they did when the Berlin wall fell - no it couldn't have been Reagan - it had to be "other factors" - it would have fell anyway. God bless men like GW Bush and Ronald Reagan, men with courage to fight for what is right and win important wars on our behalf despite our own lack of will. "Besides ending slavery, nazism, fascism, communism, war never solved anything" Difficutl times call for wonderful leaders, which GW Bush has been one of the all time best - and as with eagan, history will be much kinder to him.

If Canada, as a country, reduced it's "greenhouse gas emissions" NOT TO 20% BELOW 1991 LEVELS (or whatever the kyoto target happens to be arbitraily set at), but instead we reduce our "greenhouse gas emissions" to ZERO. ie. not economic activity at all. No cars, no manufacturing, no goods on the shevles, no heat, no cooking food, no electricy... Given our 0.01% contrubution to man-made world carbon dioxide Guess how much impact that will have on the global temperature in 20-40-100 years? If you guess zero, you'd be correct. I think that puts the relevence of this debate nicely into perspective. side note: water vapor is a "greenhouse gas" too - in fact the most prevelant one BY FAR by, like 98 times. should we stop breathing too? I think Dr. Patrick Moore, founder of Greenpeace said it best:

Here is a fitting commentary by Mark Steyn about the conspiracy theorists - he puts it so well why bother trying to paraphrase: He continues in another column...

Global Warming: Wisdom should dawn on the developed world!
JerrySeinfeld replied to Kalp's topic in The Rest of the World
Exactly! Canada's 0.001% of global carbon emissions, or, more "emotionally": your pleasure from cooking on a gas stove is personally resposible for the death toll of an indian cyclone. baaaaahahahahahahahaha -
Dion Lays Out Anti-Poverty Plan
JerrySeinfeld replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Dion represents the "big idea" socialists of eras gone by. I honestly think Canadians are in the mood for practical, accountable government and lower taxes - offered by the conservatives. Not "big scheme big dream tax and spend policies" offered up by Ivory Tower libs like dion. I think most people are too well informed to buy into the "I promise to slash poverty by 30%" bullshit these days. -
Saudi gang-rape Victim is Jailed

Huh? The comparison is bang on: blaming an act of violence on the behavior of the victim. -
Saudi gang-rape Victim is Jailed
JerrySeinfeld replied to southerncomfort's topic in The Rest of the World
Just as not all germans were nazis - alot of good that did the jews. What's relevant is how much power the extremists wield within the community. There must be attention paid to this. If massive muslim communities swell and swell unchecked and the "voice" of those communities becomes a radical, violent voice - as in Europe, then it doesn't really matter if the majority of muslims are silent and aqcuiescent to thei - ahem - more "active" counterparts" now does it? -
OK Gostacked....you asked for it... Banks "win either way"? Here is an excert from Citigroup's recent earnings report: In addition, BMO took at $300 million + charge, National Bank this morning announced a $365 million write down...all related to the US mortgage situation. I could go on and on and on and on about how much wealth (and bank profit) has evaporated in the past quarter. Next time you say "the bank wins either way" you should do some research.

Global Warming: Wisdom should dawn on the developed world!
JerrySeinfeld replied to Kalp's topic in The Rest of the World
Climate changes all the tmie - more and more science is finding the true correlation / cause is not your SUV, but that big yellow thing in the sky. Wow, what a shocker. -
If the buyer owns nothing, then who keeps the difference when he sells at a higher price than he bought? Oh right: the buyer. This is nothing more than an example of people buying property (ie. taknig on financial risk) using leverage, getting in over their heads, then crying foul when the prices go south. People need to get bumfucked once in awhile to teach them about what risk is.

You obviously missed the point. Capitalists profit from all kinds of things, not misery exclusively. To say that there is some kind of special link between misery and capitalism is to see the world with blinders on. There is no more of a link between capitalism and misery than there is between capitalism and sex, capitalism and air conditioning, capitalism and art or capitalism and vacations. That is the point. Klein is drawing a special unique relationship between capitalistic opportunism and other people's misery, which is a false, misleading and narrowminded presumption.

The results are in, The surge is working
JerrySeinfeld replied to M.Dancer's topic in The Rest of the World
In typical left wing fashion, you are too obsessed with money. SOme things are far more important than money - and this is one of them. There is a war of civilizations going on. If you don't have a society, who cares about the economy. -
It's unknown how it will affect - but I am optimistic. As long as people have jobs - which they do - I think the sub prime problem will be relatively contained to this one sector of the economy. The US is already forecasting a slow Q4 1.5% GDP or so. But the fed cut the both fed funds and discount by 75 basis points already and I believe that liquidity will keep things going in the debt-driven US economy.

JerrySeinfeld replied to southerncomfort's topic in The Rest of the World
Indeed - another wonderful aspect we could incorporate into our tolerant society -
ummmmm, not to completely laugh out loud here - but do you live in Canada or have you ever been here? Canada is the most disgustingly, obviously nationalistic, pigheadedly patriotic countries on the face of the earth. As a woman from France once said to me in broken english back when I used to be part of the bragging masses: "sure...I like zee Canada, but what eez wit all of zee flags? flags on backpakcs, flags at woodstock, flags everywhere zee canadian flag eez" How do you know who the Canadian is at a party overseas? He'll tell you. You should read "Why I Hate Canadians" (written by a Canadian). Here is a neat excerpt:

You might want to watch this short film by Klein before assuming she hasn't entirely gone off the deep end. In the film it seems pretty obvious to me that she is implying something much more insidious than mere opportunism. Watch it - it's short - then tell me if you still disagree.
