  1. Thank you, Yes, Robin Williams had a choice, the others didn't!
  2. Just answer the question! Are they in the same category?
  3. Ignore what? Good grief! Right from the first time I quoted you up until the last post i've been pretty clear.
  4. Well, we have to draw a line somewhere, don't we? Do you put Sue Rodriguiz, WTC jumpers and Robin Williams in the same category?
  5. I think I just did! Look up^^
  6. I honestly know a lot about it. Just because I don't by the hype doesn't make me bad or wrong. People have mental illness, obviously. I'm not saying they don't, I'm not even saying that the act is unfogiveable. What I'm saying is that it's selfish, wether they know it or not makes no difference. You're agreeing with me that it's selfish, but then saying it doesn't enter their mind. It doesn't enter their mind because they're so self absorbed by their own self pity.
  7. Having an incurable degenerative disease and wanting to die with dignity is not a mental illness. I watched...horrified as people jumped from the WTC - that's not the same either.
  8. They're not thinking irrationally! Right. But, you said it yourself, they're not thinking about their family. They are looking at their own self pity - Illness, sure I can buy into that, but it still doesn't mean they're not selfish.
  9. Well, I'm glad you asked because...yes! Taking your life a'la Sue Rodiguiz is way different that depression.
  10. I'm sure that's true is some cases. I know it's a popular sentiment for suicide notes and we hear it all the time on TV, but what it amounts to is simple self pity. "They'd be better off without me" is just like "i'm getting bullied", he/she left me for someone else, "I went bankrupt", "I'm different because I'm gay", "spouse cheated on me" etc.etc, it's still self pity and selfishness.
  11. So...suicide prevention is a selfish act - Ok! I never saw that angle before, thanks
  12. Callous, No! I feel for the victims of suicide - the family and loved ones.
  13. C'mon, we're not talking about ALS/Cancer/Aids or jumping on a grenade and you know it.
  14. You disagree that suicide is selfish? When a person does this are they thinking about the parents that have to live with that for the rest of their lives, the children who won't grow up with a parent or the siblings and friends who have to get on with life? No, it's all about them and how they're feeling. It's selfish, perhaps the most selfish thing a person can do.
  15. Suicide is not only cowardice, it's selfish. "I never saw a wild thing sorry for itself. A small bird will drop frozen dead from a bough without ever having felt sorry for itself." D.H Lawrence.
  16. The chickens are coming home to roost. I hope that Ashley Madison goes down hard.
  17. OK, so I'll give some "cites", although ignorance will prevent you from actually even believing this, but... http://www.mh-audio.nl/tips%5Ccdhistory.htm This shows CD players costing $700-1000 and Cd's $15-$20. Numbers are USD, which means that in Canada Cd's were actually $20-25 bucks in the 80's. The prices for Cd's and CD players have dropped drastically starting in the 1990's. http://www.statcan.gc.ca/pub/11-402-x/2011000/chap/prices-prix/prices-prix02-eng.htm We all know that food prices have generally dropped or at least remained below the rate of inflation. The above is only a sample of a few items, but it does show a trend. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/university-tuition-rising-to-record-levels-in-canada-1.1699103 University (or schooling) has remained consistent with the rate of minimum wage since 1990. In 1990, the the minimum wage was 5$ and tuition was average $2800, today minimum wage is $10 and average tuition in BC is about $5600 - I call that a wash, but add in cost of living being easier today and the ability to go to university actually becomes a little easier. http://www.wishbookweb.com Here is the Sears wishbook for several years. I have chosen to peruse the 1987 year, although WIP's posts had me recheck the late 1970's books as well. 18. I dont support most of his ideas, but lets fact it, there are just as many (likely more) radical feminists spewing crap just as negative and hateful that never get banned from Canada. I believe in free speech, and support his right to his opinions just as I support WCR's or Cyber's rights.
  19. I don't care for the idea on it's premise, but when I was more left leaning/NDP, I hung around with a lot of these types of people and there was always talk of "how far we'll go" and there were always radicals who were wanting to go to the most extreme - ya' know, for the cause. Most of these groups talk about peaceful protests, but if someone spiked trees or called in a bomb threat, it's all for the greater good - and yes, it has happened.
  20. I don't know about that. I just think that any political group should be accountable - and these are political groups.
  21. If people want to get political, they should be accountable. There shouldn't be any hiding. If people want to "get in the ring", fair enough, but they have to expect to be identified and checked out.
  22. But you would agree that eco-terrorism is bad and those perpetrating such acts should be found and charged...right?
  23. I don't understand, are you people saying there is no such thing as eco-terrorism, or that eco-terrorism is just not a big deal?
  24. Eco-terrorism has been around a long time and is justified by radicals as "the ends justify the means".
  25. That's classic, I'm gonna add this to my signature so I'll never forget it!
