  1. I still await your reply in one of the other threads (one of the Iraq ones) in relation to your claim of Middle East stability prior to American involvement in the region……Frankly, until such question is addressed, I don't see much of challenge being offered.
  2. Perhaps this one is a former member, none the less , I’m sure there are numerous people of the shared point of view…..who’s to know. As to a reasonable light, again perhaps, but I’d hazard a guess then many share his views to varying levels, but have a more polished form of delivery.
  3. How do we define who is a troll? What is hard to understand about that?
  4. As I said, it’s a subjective term…….One person’s troll can be another person’s valued contributor.
  5. Well it does, those groups mentioned by you will receive EI, teachers will not......~55% of wages is better than ~0%
  6. Am I wrong in assuming, unlike contracted teachers, these listed examples are entitled to EI benefits during work stoppages?
  7. In some cases, in others cases (as I think with this one), continuing on only lends some sort of legitimacy to this type of speech…By all means, let him have his say within forum rules…....With that said, would you attempt a conversation with the crazy person begging for change with a sandwich board and tin-foil hat, living on the streets?
  8. But, for example, say the target of said ongoing troll hunt is of a certain nationality, and sits namely on one side of the political fence, well his accusers come from a different political persuasion, if said troll was slain, could new or current perspective members construed a level of political bias on this forum? One has to ask, if said “troll” is banned, who will then face the “wraith” of the troll hunting mob?
  9. Why would you say that? My position would be the same if you were the target of the “Great MLW troll hunt”, and one could hardly call me a Waldo apologist.
  10. And what if not everyone ignores the troll? Perhaps some find said troll engaging in a given subject mater……or others like a debate boarding on argument if they’re passionate on a given issue…… None the less, if you find a given member to be a troll, and choose not to engage, what prevents you from discussing the given topic with other members, well ignoring the proclaimed troll? As to follow on effects with other members, have you considered that others are put off by others and not just the identified troll? As I think was mentioned by Charles, every member here could be construed a troll at times.
  11. This is very true, democracy is certainly not practiced (as we’ve covered already), but with that in mind, the word proclaimed from atop the Mountain by Charles is that if another member hurts another’s feelings, said member should ignore that member and move along……..Seems a straightforward enough decree, not embroiled in complex jargon nor requiring plebiscites, kangaroo courts, torches nor pitchforks……. If Charles & Greg state trolling is a subjective term in this fiefdom, well also prescribing a cure for those in need, it’s seems the course of action going forward for the victims of trolling is clear…..pull-up your big-boy/girl pants and ignore the mischievous troll so as to avoid future problems.
  12. Nobody else “trolls”? Or is this other “trolling” just the result of one member? If so, I’m shocked that a goodly sum of members have little self-control and allow another member to alter their behaviour in such a significant way…. Even if the “great troll of MLW” does have this much control over so many members lives, I would think the first step in “combating” said “troll” is to reduce the apparent significance his contributions have by ignoring him……
  13. Of course it is, and Canadians can easily access this amount via the annual Federal budget………The inclusion of the already sunk costs associated with operating a fleet of fighters though has been used as a disingenuous political stick to induce sticker shock on the program…… Pilots and maintainers will have the same financial burden, the cost of diesel in the snowploughs and tugs likewise, as to the costs from everything from light bulbs to boot laces, all equal sunk costs we currently pay and will continue to pay regardless if we purchased F-35s, Eurofighter, Rafale or Super Hornets etc…or better put, ~5% of DND’s annual budget. As I’ve said before in various threads, the same uproar with this purchase doesn’t appear present with regards to the National Shipbuilding Plan, which will easily, once like accounting criteria is applied, have a total sum measured in the 100s of billions of dollars………
  14. In fairness, said food bank was set-up amongst teachers and not relying upon the local resources….. I largely agree that most teachers, this close to Summer, shouldn’t be hurting yet, since most do make plans/arrangements for the summer break, where the teachers will start hurting is in September….. I do have a smidgen of sympathy for some of the members, namely the younger teachers that aren’t quite full time, both partners are teachers and for those that are single parents…….If one is honest, most folks (at some time in their lives) have built themselves a financial house of cards, as such, the slightest interruption will upset the household applecart……..It will be interesting to see if Canada student loans allows a grace period extension for those that apply for financial hardship during the summer.
  15. And said sum translates into less than $25.00 for each member, or half of what a member should receive for one day strike pay……If this job action goes into October, and starts to bankrupt teachers, they could very well end up taking a lesser deal as to what’s offered today, and in turn splinter the BCTF…… As it stands now, if the Government accepted the latest BCTF proposal as is, the Province would go into the red by nearly $300 million…..The BC Liberals will not go back into deficit, just as I’m certain British Columbians will not be eager to see a tax increase to pay for a teacher pay hike.
  16. Secretive because it’s a mystery as to where decades of dues have went, which in turn puts the BCTF members at a financial disadvantage when it comes to leveraging job action…..simply put, once the teachers that have saved for the regular summer break have exhausted their own savings, they will be left with no choice but accept an offer. Unaccountable because unlike most unions, the BCTF executive isn’t directly elected by their members.
  17. I don't how/if they could have a nuanced definition….As I’ve said, it’s clearly a subjective term……
  18. Is there unanimity among members on what is trolling and flame-bait? I think not.
  19. What happens to trolls that nobody feeds? Of course “troll” is a subjective term…….what you might find tedious, could be a thought provoking and engaging discussion for others. So you feel others should be stifled or silenced because you might find some annoying or tedious?
  20. What if the others that share your opinion also ignore said troll?
  21. Desire has nothing to do with it…..ability and inability to address said action are key.
  22. Safe assumption, OBL was worth more financially then everyone that posts on this forum combined…..clearly his views were not motivated by money......
  23. You said you ignore trolls, as such, said trolls have no effect on your involvement in the forum.... correct?
