True, and on all commercial flights into Nunavut the pre-flight safety instructions are given in English, French and Inuktitut.......but then the airlines are Inuit/Eskimo owned..........Should Air Canada or Westjet accommodate English, French and every other native language spoken in Canada? What about every other language spoken in Canada? In Metro Vancouver, there are over 50 languages spoken..........that would make for quite the exciting flight from Vancouver to Edmonton.......

Though I don't we will receive another majority mandate, in the previous Tory minorities, plenty was done with namely the support of the Liberals.......Now this time, -IF-, the Tories return with a minority, it will depend on the size.......I don't doubt if only ~10 seats separated the Tories and the NDP/Liberals, the Government would be brought down within months or even weeks, inversely, a ~150+ seat minority would see the Tories govern for 18 months+ until the next election (With a Tory and Liberal leadership change) Now the key factor is what place the Liberals and NDP finish.........The Liberal party, or a good part of it, won't govern as junior partner to the NDP, fore that will result in two things. First, the Liberal party would no longer have any political relevance (Like the British Liberals), second, its more likely that the Red Tories found with the LPC would prop up a Tory minority Government (if they had the numbers) before joining with the NDP......Now a Liberal led coalition or Government, propped up by the NDP, is possible...... But, all bets are off if either the Liberals or NDP also need the Bloc to govern.........
-
It is, we could get a slim, skin of the teeth majority with ~35% of the vote, where as the other require numbers in the higher 30s..........
-
"Federal Conservative surge": And just wait until the NDP is put under the microscope............As I've said countless times, there will be a Conservative Majority Government this Fall.

Greece? Add about 4% to Harper's Numbers
Derek 2.0 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
To a degree, but there is also a political reality.........The Tories are not going to tear-up EI, the Canadian Health Act, CPP etc.......That is clearly fear mongering, but, that is not to say conservative "adjustments" to such programs result in a zero-sum game. -
You don't think Prime Minister Harper is an ideologue, a strict adherent to his political views? Let me guess, your also think Dustin Hoffman was in Star Wars? Harper's politics are ever so much a blend of his own ideology mixed with political pragmatism............

As would I (and Harper), but the true leftist policies of the NDP and Liberals have been publicly diminished as a reactionary measure to the true Canadian political calculus.........The NDP can't campaign too loudly on massive deficit spending or higher taxes to achieve their political Utopia, riddled with countless social programs, of a just and progressive society because Canadians don't want higher taxes (for themselves anyways) nor the country to go broke........Canadians, by and large, are socially "progressive" but fiscally conservative.......... The Canadians (in 20-30 ridings) that will decide this election will be faced with a stark choice, paying more to Government for the benefit of others......or not. So far, the NDP promises, based on their own policy paper, measures in the tens of billions of dollars in the red......Free Daycare, embracing First Nations reconciliation, more funding for cities and transit, countless social justice programs aimed at societies most vulnerable etc will all cost a whole whack of money our Government doesn't have (Your starved beast).......hence the NDP will need to tap a source of other people's money......money belonging to voters that would much rather keep it......

I'm not the slightest bit worried, and once the actual campaign starts, like has happened in the last several elections, the Tories will climb again very slowly, so slowly that some in the MSM might even suggest the NDP or Liberals (Which ever one is leading at that point) won't form Government, as the Tories will then look like they will form a modest minority.......and then, on October 20th, we'll have another Tory Majority (in the 170-180 seat range)..... Don't mistake my/Harper's/the CPC's confidence as arrogance though, in every election since 2004 the party has gained seats despite polling stating the opposite months prior to the vote........I, like the majority of party members are paying attention, yet no one is worried......I would have been a tad worried if Trudeau was polling in the high 30s, or the Tories released their platform last month and peaked too early in the mid 30s........ To be frank, as a NDP supporter, you should be worried, as despite the current front-runner status, your party has been handled with kid gloves by not only the Tories, but the Liberals, Bloc, Greens, and perhaps the most important of all, the mainstream media.........The Tory strategy of defeating media darling Trudeau with his own ignorant remarks has worked, the follow on strategy to defeat the socialist NDP has yet to begin..... Remember, since becoming the leader of the Canadian Alliance (and then the CPC), Harper has wanted to bury the Liberal Party of Canada, sending it off into the history books alongside the Progressive Conservatives and Social Credit..........leaving Canadians with two viable choices to form government, a center-right party and a center-left party..........The current NDP is leftist party... The strategy to defeat the NDP is quite simple when compared to Trudeau........we will defeat you this Fall by using your Fabian Socialist ideals against you...........We don't have to defend policies that amount to higher taxes, deficit spending and protectionist polices that amount to higher prices of consumer goods........I will enjoy greatly watching Mulcair explain these expensive policies to Canadians.........

Democratic nomination 2016
Derek 2.0 replied to WWWTT's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Likewise myself and the NRA: But best of all: Priceless........... -
To that point, a good piece in today's National Post, explaining why it is that Harper and the CPC are not the slightest bit worried, despite polls and commentary suggesting they should be...........speaking to your point, the poll that suggests that ~75% of Canadians have never heard of TPP......A trade deal representing nearly 50% of the World's GDP, a economic linchpin for the 21st century, that will be finalized in the weeks ahead, a deal that the NDP and Liberals will oppose........much like they did with Mulroney and NAFTA......

But....but...but....bomb truck.......

"Stealth Code"? What's that I wonder? There is no such thing as a "stealth code", but there is natural science......Though the F-35 can't defy natural science, nor is stealth a mythical creature like a Klingon Cloaking device, the F-35 is a beneficiary of all aspect signature reductions, miles ahead of all aircraft currently in (or near term) production and development, be it a reduction in returns from its radar cross section, IR or the transmission of electromagnetic noise..........Stealth is not a dead end, this is why all future designs, both manned and unmanned, be it from the Americans, Chinese, Russians or Europeans will incorporate "stealth"........ .... But more then its stealth, the F-35's level of awareness and the fusion of data, and the ability to share this data with other entities via networking, is what makes the F-35 dominant going forward.....Through the aircraft's DAS/radar/comms/avionics/computers, the F-35 (for example) can locate and track a ballistic missile launch and respond by targeting such a threat with not only its own weapons, but those of other platforms, be it land based artillery, a sub offshore armed with cruise missiles, a B-52 with a belly full of JASSMs 300 km away or a flight of next generation UCAVs....... The F-35 is to current aircraft like a Hornet or Falcon, as what the F-86 or Mig-15 was to a Spitfire or Me-109........no comparison and obvious generational change.....
-
Good on Perry...........I'm glad Perry can take the ribbing on his old lady glasses ..........I also saw Perry interviewed several days ago on FNC, he does seem far more relaxed and confident playing "himself" this time............ The first debates begin next month on Fox, its shaping up that Bush, Rubio, Walker and Perry will represent the establishment/moderate GOP, with Trump, Cruz and Paul leading the goat rodeo/Tea Party.......and the remaining also rans/fodder led by Christie & friends......

Watch it, WCR will call you mean if you call-out Walter Mitty's bs

I'm shocked.......another refusal to stay on topic........explain why the above twin engine aircraft have a greater loss rate due to engine failures than single engine types.........or why the twin engine Super Hornet was lost at sea when it had an engine failure? Clearly you can't, since you know little of the subject, despite your mythical claims.......... I'll give you the last word, as that is clearly all that you've got
-
Then explain how a Super Hornet was lost due to an engine failing? And of course, statistically speaking, you've yet again demonstrated that you don't understand the topic in which you're conversing. The number of Class A in flight mishaps for the twin engine F-15, versus the single engine F-16 as of March 2015......as can be clearly seen, more twin engine F-15s have been lost due to engine problems than single engine F-16s.........Furthermore, the number of Class A mishaps for the twin engine F-22 versus the single engine F-35, and yet again, statistically speaking, twin engine 4th and 5th generation aircraft have a greater loss rate due to engine failures, when compared to 4th and 5th generation single engine aircraft........statistically speaking of course!!!!!
-
How about in the Arabian Sea? Or what about the two times the entire Super Hornet fleet was grounded due to engine failures? So the Super Hornet suffered from engine problems, in addition to performance issues, in its development........and yet, OGFT wants to waste taxpayer money on this, decades old, Pinto "bomb truck".........
-
F/A-18, F-16, F-15E, Tornado etc......all examples of proven "bomb trucks" designed in the 1970s and nearing the end of their useful lives.
-
Right, and in our service, the Hornet has proven itself as viable bomb truck..........Likewise, the Hawker Typhoon in RCAF service, but then, when we selected the Hornet, nobody suggested we buy the proven Hawker Typhoon
-
The Super Hornet has only proved itself as a bomb truck.........
-
No, the idiotic "bomb truck" meme..........
-
Funny enough, outside of intercepting a greatly reduced Soviet bomber force, the only other viable role the Arrow could have contributed to was our then commitment to NATO tactical nuclear strike..........making the Arrow a "nuclear bomb truck", of which the Arrow wouldn't have been bested until the Buccaneer and F-111 were stationed in Western Europe in the late 60s and early 70s......
-
Without a doubt, the Arrow was stillborn for much the same reason American and British interceptor programs were also cancelled.......there was nothing to intercept that couldn't be done with a more versatile, conventional fighter.........and is made evident by the fact that both the American and Canadian contribution to NORAD into the 80s was largely still Century Series aircraft...........
-
It was without a doubt, but aside from straight line speed, everything else that would have been required of it could be had a few years later by a far more versatile and cheaper package:
