  1. I read his book, The Last Spike: The Great Railway many years ago. Back when I was still reading things... I don't recall much about it, but it was a good read. I do recall the references he makes to the connections between nation building, and the railway. Rails of steel united the provinces, allowing for the convenient trade of goods and the movement of people. In one sense the railway is the very backbone upon which this country was built. And that is also why, when Mohawk natives choose to block the rails they understand all to well the effect of what they are doing. Evidently a history lesson about trains we have forgotten, but they haven't.
  2. For so it had come about, as indeed I and many men might have foreseen had not terror and disaster blinded our minds. These germs of disease have taken toll of humanity since the beginning of things--taken toll of our prehuman ancestors since life began here. But by virtue of natural selection of our kind we have developed resisting power; to no germs do we succumb without a struggle, and to many--those that cause putrefaction in dead matter, for instance--our living frames are altogether immune.

Let me put it this way, we are killing the Coronavirus without any help, naturally with our bodies. Hurrah for the human immune system.

Now doesn't that make you people look stupid. You people and your pharmaceuticals. What shall we do if there is no drug, eh? Now there is no technology to save you.

  3. Seeing this post has somehow restored my faith in humanity. If you can do that then even the most ardent leftist zealot can still come around seeing the truth eventually.
  4. Been thinking about doing this too. I suggest a log cabin. Plus you don't need to shave, or cut your hair.
  5. The backlash this is having against globalism is certainly a welcome part of it. To me anyways It's most important that people in the big cities should stay home. They should not shop online for foreign products. Buying take-out food is ill-advised. Stay indoors, eat canned food marked two years ago, keep the lights off and stay in a cold room. Cold and dark is better.
  6. This news is not making its rounds as fast as the fake news: Study claiming new coronavirus can be transmitted by people without symptoms was flawed I wish to point out that what we are seeing is in part a training exercise, exactly like it was with SARS where they enacted certain emergency procedures here in Canada out of an abundance of caution, and learned a lot about what could go wrong in trying to prevent a serious outbreak of pandemic. They need to know what kind of emergency services are needed, plan for logistics and methods of quarantine. Another important aspect is how to stop the spread from country to country. In each country, it enters a new populace and health care system. It requires a completely separate enactment of the emergency procedures, and you see where the cost starts to go higher and higher. Economically, there are forces who want to use this outbreak to cast hurt on China, by making it appear that Chinese goods are contaminated with disease. Its not a big stretch to go from the fear in the public now over the Coronavirus, to fearing Chinese products and foreign products in general.
  7. It`s good to be prepared. I predict (hope) you will not need it. I heard that in some areas, any Chinaman seen wearing a face mask in public could get their head kicked in.
  8. Unless we need to kill... the Guberment!
  9. Statistics are easily misleading. Some might say they’re the devil himself. Let’s consider it in light of hospitalizations, not reported infections where there is no hospitalization. Because there are many different strains... and some are not virulent. Make sense?
  10. https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/diseases/flu-influenza/health-professionals.htmlEpidemiology of influenza in Canada Keep in mind there are many strains. Some only cause minor discomfort, others are far more "virulent."
  11. You make it sound like 1 % death rate is a great big deal. I don't think it is. The total number of deaths worldwide is sitting around 3000. The vast majority of infections and deaths is in China. Meanwhile in Canada the flu kills a minimum of 3000 per year. In the USA, it kills up to 50,000 per year. That is just in one country alone, and nobody cares. Finally we can see by this graph that the outbreak has plateaued in China, the number of new cases has stopped increasing. Also the number of recoveries is increasing exponentially. You could extend the graph into the future, and see where the two graphs (cases, recovered) join. At that point the number of recoveries is equal to the number of cases. Using the date scale on the bottom, this will occur within 2-4 weeks.
  12. That is the rate quoted in China. The rate is much lower elsewhere, I've seen it 0.7 %
  13. Yes, I know. I meant men as in "the Human Beings" described the movie LIttle Big Man. Or as our Jewish friends would say, a Mensch. For you see, there are very few actual human beings you meet whom you might call a Mensch. The rest of you people are all just bloody savages. Cheers, OW
  14. Agreed, BubberMiley, and that includes all forms of mental illness.
  15. I've driven through Tyendinaga many times, down to Marysville. You can tell how well off people are by the size of the trucks parked in their driveways, and the boats and quad bikes.
  16. Men do not like to kill men, as evidenced by Army Guy's very credible post. A majority of normal human beings suffer psychological trauma after killing someone, presumably because they have a conscience.
  17. If you wish. Who am I to take your beliefs away from you?
  18. It's not about Trump the man, his virtue means nothing if the US pays them accordingly. It's more about they oppose the US exceptionalism he represents. Of course you wouldn't consider that, since the left has put a blanket over your head.
  19. Doesn't matter, you can't move the goal posts on that one. Whether this accomplishes anything is yet to be seen, but it shows Donald Trump is the kind of person to call the Chinese out where it matters to other people. Probably would help if other world leaders would get on board with this, but they are too weak and afraid of retribution. They don't have the financial backing to challenge China. Exactly what the Chinese want to happen, of course and we knew this was coming. Economically the game is far from over. This is a long game, with many more plays yet to make. I heard that China's economy is growing so fast that it surpassed another milestone recently, just a few years ago and no doubt this plays into US policy toward China, whether by Trump or not. But Trump is the choice of person to hold that position. The outward face is an obstinate SOB. Corona virus is the next step in the game. The whole point is to taint Chinese goods as contaminated, toxic, diseased. Even the bubble-wrap from China contains Chinese air, and might have the virus. That's right, don't pop the bubble wrap, you are releasing air from China into the room. I read that Amazon sales were going down. Not sure if they still are. Many reports of open racism against Chinese in public, especially if they are wearing a face mask as some tend to do.
  20. Trump / US admin is holding China accountable for fentanyl distribution, among other terrible noxious chemicals they produce without controls. One of the US conditions for a new trade deal requires that China restrict fentanyl distribution from their end. From what I understand this is a purely US initiative, no other countries in particular the EU are taking a similar focused position against China. You dislike Donald Trump, yes it's clear. So do I. But I like this. ^^^ And I like any leader with the balls to stand up and call them out, where we have been complaining about CHina's unfair marketing and poor conditions for years. I haven't seen anyone else willing to take that stand. Even though I don't like Donald Trump, I hope he gets to keeps doing what he's doing as president.
  21. Chinese restaurants reporting up to 80% drop in business. I guess no one wants to go out for a quick bowl of Moo Goo Guy Pan, and a side order of death sauce.
  22. No, I can't wait for us to stop buying their toxic and now infectious crap. That alone is enough to say go Trump go. Meanwhile in the EU, that socialist utopia you so admire, they are very happy to keep sluicing the Chinese up the river Yang.
  23. Capitalism can and does succeed, but what the Chinese have done is not that. More like corruptionism, and cheating. Their lack of environmental and safety regulations gives them an unfair marketing advantage, and possibly played a role in the very cause of this incident. Creativity without restraint. The dragon unleashed. Interesting times will soon come your way.
