Canuck E Stan replied to mirror's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Thanks August, now I know. Is there a reason this method wasn't used? And has Canada ever used the export tax on anything in the past? Thanks again. -

This is Canada in the future, Martin has just been elected again with his fourteenth minority government and the Canadian Space Agency is the best in the world. It was a celebratory mood with the boys at CSA; they had just made the scientific achievement of a lifetime. As they were uncorking a bottle of champagne, Dr.Stronach-Anders (grandson of Belinda and Rob), the head scientist at CSA, asked everyone to be quiet as he had received a congratulatory phone call from the Prime Minister of Canada. He picked up a special i-pod phone, and spoke into it. "Mr. Prime Minister," said Dr. Stronach-Anders, grinning broadly, "after twelve years of hard research and billions of surplus dollars spent, we have finally found intelligent life on Mars." He listened for a second, and his smile gradually disappeared, replaced by a frown. He said, "But that's impossible ... we could never do it. ... yes Mr. Prime Minister," and hung up the phone. He addressed the crowd of scientists staring at him curiously. "I have some bad news," he said, "the Prime Minister said that now that we've found intelligent life on Mars ... he wants us to try to find it in Parliament." -
Stephen Harper: Canada's Next Prime Minister?

This might be a stupid question, in regards to the billions that the Americans owe the Canadian softwood people. Could the Canadian government not have imposed some sort of tariff on the Canadian lumber group instead of the Americans? My thinking is, then the costs of lumber for this group would be higher going into the U.S. Could that have been possible? I know nothing of how these tariffs work. Clue me in if you know. Thanks. -

Paul Martin decides to take the media to a local neighbourhood barbershop where he plans on getting a photo op haircut from a everyday average guy barber. Martin enters the shop and aske the barber, "How long will this take, how much will it cost, and how good will this look?" All the while smiling for the reporters and photographers. The local neighbourhood barber replied just ten minutes, cost $20, and look marvelous. An hour and fifteen minutes later, Martin looked into the mirror in horror and barber handed him a bill for $200. Martin gasped, "You took too long, it doesn't look that great, and it is costing me ten times more than you said!" the local neighbourhood barber replied, "That makes us even." -

An angel appears at a political caucus meeting and tells the political leader that in return for his unselfish and exemplary behavior, the Lord will reward him with his choice of infinite wealth, wisdom, or beauty. Without hesitating, the leader selects infinite wisdom. "Done!" says the angel, and disappears in a cloud of smoke and a bolt of lightning. Now, all heads turn toward the leader, who sits surrounded by a faint halo of light. One of his colleagues whispers, "Say something." The leader sighs and says, "I should have taken the money." -

Alberta: We're Coming To Get Your Money
Canuck E Stan replied to mirror's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
In the near future, listen for the words "Carbon Tax" along with "Kyoto" coming out of the Liberals in Ottawa as they point their fingers west towards Alberta. -
Mulroney was hated for the changes he was making to the Canadian economic landscape. Candians were bitter about these changes and knew a price would be paid to make these changes(unemployment, job loses). Mulroney didn't seem to care how Canadians felt about Free Trade or NAFTA and was going to do it anyway. Chretien took advantage of this by promising to reverse these decisions, and everyone voted for him. The Tories lost big time,Chretien ended up being a big time lier, and the Reform party was born as a result. Worst PM in modern times(last 30 years) any PM that was a lawyer.Take your pick

I suggest to Mirror and others ,they actually go on the Western Block site and visit their forum. Nothing there of any importance or information. Seems everyone thinks this site is a one man parade. The site should be listed in our joke post.

Where can we send all the Canadian Malcontents
Canuck E Stan replied to mirror's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
So Mirror, what are the injustices in Quebec that Trudeau got rid of? -
Yes,the same way Quebec got over him.

You tell me,you say Trudeau got rid of them. If life is so grand in Quebec why are they wanting to get out of Canada? -
I guess you are the guru of perfection. Your opinion is just that your opinion. People have a right to think what they want. If stupidity got us into this mess, then why can't it get us out? --Will Rogers (1879-1935)

"Trudeau got elected and reversed those injustices. Enough from Quebec already, they are very privileged to be part of Canada." Yes and that's why we have the BLOC in Quebec, because they all feel the injustices are reversed. Thank you Mister Trudeau for reversing those injustices. "As far as the West is concerned they whine about being left out of the corridors of power yet they don't really participate in federal politics." Isn't that what the west is bitchin' about? Democratic Deficit? The country run by Ontario? The country's government decided after Ontario votes. Living out west, you should get the picture a lot clearer. -

Or send them to Manitoba and have them voice they're opinion about everything 24/7. -
Workers in the auto sector do not have an option on whether to join.Union democracy says you have to be a member when you work for the domestic auto companies. Refusal means no job. At the same time those working at Toyota in Ontario cannot get a union because they would lose their job in a minute if they tried to get one in.Years ago(1973) Chrysler workers in Windsor were tired of forced overtime year after year. They started a campaign "Ask Us,Don't tell Us" The Ontario government put into law, no employer could force a worker to work more than 48 hours a week. Woopie Doopie, forced to work 48 hours as mandated by the government now.Workers were tired of excessive overtime, where are we today? Ontario government still has this 48 hour rule, while the unions do nothing in helping the auto workers in this respect? Same old, same old. Point being, the Unions don't do anything except price the worker out of the market. Like Capitalism,it's all about money.

Trudeau was the John F Kennedy of Canada and like Kennedy the myth of his goodness is falsely perpetuated to this day. The media made him the hero of the Canadian generation of the sixties but as this generation got older, into the late seventies and early eighties they didn't care much of him any longer.

After sitting in the public gallery during question period, a little boy gets to meet his local MP, "When I grow up, I'm going to contribute some money to your campaign." "Well, thank you," replied the MP, "but why?" "Because my Daddy says you're one of the poorest MPs we've ever had." -
"They have to learn that there are more views than their's and that just maybe, those other views are the better ones."-Eureka And the rest of that statement would be, only Liberals have good ideas, therefore , other ideas will never be considered. Doesn't sound like a very democratic process to me. Oh wait, Mister Martin is going to do something about that. Sure he is. If Martin was serious about the democratic deficit he would have begun to do something about it by now. A recent PHd grad in political science was seated next to Little Johnny on the plane when the he turned to Little Johnny and said, "Let's talk. I've heard that flights will go quicker if you strike up a conversation with your fellow passenger." Little Johnny, who had just opened his book, closed it slowly, and said to the stranger, "What would you like to discuss?" "Oh, I don't know," said the stranger. "How about Canadian politics?" "OK," said Little Johnny. "That could be an interesting topic. But let me ask you a question first. A horse, a cow, and a deer all eat grass. The same stuff. Yet a deer excretes little pellets, while a cow turns out a flat patty, and a horse produces clumps of dried grass. Why do you suppose that is?" "Jeez," said the recent grad. "I have no idea." "Well, then," said Little Johnny, "How is it that you feel qualified to discuss Canadian politics when you don't know crap?" -

A young man was hired by a political leader and reports for his first day of work. The leader greets him with a hearty handshake and smile, hands him a coffee pot and says, "Your first job will be to get us a pot of coffee ." "Get a pot of coffee, but I'm a PHd graduate in political science," the young man indignantly replied. "Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't know that," said the leader."Here, give me the pot - I'll show you how first."
