  2. Not unless you posted it on reddit. Did you post it here somewhere? I donl't think you can say it has a time scale other than how long it takes for a society to grow so comfortable and relaxed the people forget what hard times were and how to cope with them, and their leaders are those who would be unfit to lead in hard times because they can't make tough decisions and aren't very strong of will. I don't think you can say the US civil war was caused by the soft men who had years of prosperity because I don't think the US was very 'soft' during this time due to western expansion and Indian wars. Not to mention it was still a society marked by little support for the poor or sick. You made your own way in life and your own success or died and no one cared which. But I do think we're now in very soft times and have been for the last thirty years or so. Real poverty and hardship is gone, and stability and security ensure almost no one ever knows real fear of violence. When universities have to offer therapy counseling for students because a speaker will be coming on campus to say things which are politically incorrect, you know these are soft people. Can't find a job? Don't like the jobs available? No problem. The state will give you some money! Our ancestors came to Canada in wooden boats in hopes of the hard work of a farmer, where they had to clear the ground by hand first Now we have to bring in temporary foreign workers for fish plants because people think the work is unpleasant and would rather stay home and collect pogey. If there were fighting in the streets in Canada the first people who would be overwhelmed would be the therapists. Which would be okay if no challenges lay ahead, and other nations were similar, but we know there are, and we know they aren't.

  3. MPs generally work hard at ingratiating themselves with their superiors. They work hard at politicking but not so much at governing. The current salary of an MP is $170k. I doubt many of them were pulling in anything remotely near $680k per year prior to their time in the House. My mother worked in the House and I'm quite familiar with a lot of the sordid goings on there, as well as how self-serving a lot of them are.

  4. I don't understand why anyone is confused about the length of time this is taking? ALL investigations by the SIU take many, many months, if not years. WHY, would be the mystery. Maybe someone ought to investigate that. One addition frustration is it doesn't seem like police were even really involved other than to chase him before he shot himself. The only thing the SIU is supposed to be investigating, its only purpose, is police involvement and whether they did anything improper in the application of force. Thus there seems precious little for them to investigate here.

  5. For years, Canadian media darlings like such as Naomi Klein (among others) praised Venezuela's socialism. Now Venezuelans are forced to eat their pets to survive while babies are dying because there's no formula. https://nypost.com/2018/12/24/women-so-desperate-to-escape-venezuela-they-sell-hair-breast-milk-sex/

  6. What about it? I don't read the Sun and I generally avoid quoting it simply because the Lefties react like this. The cite I made was of routine news which has appeared in numerous media before, however. It's no surprise and it's hardly 'fake news'. Uh okay. So how is that the media? As to whether what it did was illegal, I'll leave that up to Elections Ontario. I do know that Ontario elections have been HEAVILY influenced for the past decade by millions and millions of dollars in money coming from public service unions into phony lobbying organizations which took out TV, radio and newspaper ads to support the Liberals without identifying who was paying for them. I didn't see any outrage from the media over that.

  7. The new Russian guy really doesn't seem to like me for some reason. I deleted one of his posts in my club earlier. Either he's a Russian troll who doesn't like what he's read of my opinion of Russia or one of the people who have been booted out previously coming back to stick their tongue out and call people names.

  8. Perhaps what you see as xenophobia is somebody's actual concern with the undermining of Canadian values. Equality of women, etc.
