M.Dancer Posted September 25, 2007 Report Posted September 25, 2007 The sunny south option might not be an option if Guantanamo is closed.I am not certain of what are treason laws are in this day and age. He isn't the only fellow there. If they close it they move them all some place warm and fuzzy. O don't care where as long as it ain't here. jennie Posted September 25, 2007 Report Posted September 25, 2007 A POW can't be charged with a crime unless he has violated the rules of war. Killing the enemy is not a crime unless he had already surrendered. Best we could do is to not classify him as a POW and try him for treason. Even better is to leave him in the sunny south with his soul mates. Khadr has commited no offence against Canada. Only against the war-happy US. M.Dancer Posted September 25, 2007 Report Posted September 25, 2007 Khadr has commited no offence against Canada. Only against the war-happy US. Then lets give him honorary US citizenship so they can hang him. Quote RIGHT of SOME, LEFT of OTHERS If it is a choice between them and us, I choose us
noahbody Posted September 25, 2007 Report Posted September 25, 2007 Khadr has commited no offence against Canada. Only against the war-happy US. Canada was in the war at the time. He committed an offense against our allies. Therefore, he committed an offence against Canada. Quote

AngusThermopyle Posted September 25, 2007 Report Posted September 25, 2007 I have a question to ask you Jennie. The same one I asked earlier in this thread. Do you believe this guy would be a positive addition to Canadian society? If so, what is the basis for this belief. Quote I yam what I yam - Popeye

Do you believe this guy would be a positive addition to Canadian society? If so, what is the basis for this belief. I believe he could. However, I also believe we have a responsibility to look after our own. There are, in every society, people who require more support than others. We can't dismiss their needs because we don't like their politics. We are his country, like it or not. We have a responsibility. noahbody Posted September 25, 2007 Report Posted September 25, 2007 Canada was not in combat at the time. I think that's the oral history version. Canada actually entered in January. Khadr killed the medic in July. Does that change your view? In January 2002, Canada agreed to deploy the 3rd Battalion, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry (3 PPCLI) Battle Group, which included a reconnaissance squadron from Lord Strathcona's Horse (Royal Canadians) (LdSH(RC)), and combat service support elements from 1 Service Battalion. http://www.forces.gc.ca/site/Newsroom/view_news_e.asp?id=490 Quote

old_bold&cold Posted September 25, 2007 Report Posted September 25, 2007 It really does not matter anymore as the USA justice system has ordered the judge in this case to go ahead with charges no matter what the designation. See todays Ottawa Citizen for the story. So we will not need to worry about this guy for a long time as he will probably get a sentence of well over 40 years for all the ings they will charge him with. Murder being the biggest, and Spying etc will also be because he was not in a uniform of an army etc.. There will be more, so it looks like he will be a guest of the USA for the next few decades at least. Quote

jbg Posted September 26, 2007 Report Posted September 26, 2007 Perhaps a POW camp in Nunavut. See if they prefer it to the inhuman conditions of the carribean.Great idea. Army Guy Posted September 26, 2007 Report Posted September 26, 2007 jennie: Canada was not in combat at the time Actually Canada has been involved in combat activities since the fall of 2001, at that time and near the region that young Mr. Khadr was captured july 27, 2002....
