What a scathing comment on the quality and depth of the conservative party.

How so - while I breathed a sigh of relief when Day lost the leadership, I must say he has acquitted himself very well as an MP.

Other than that, we now have have a strong and solid conservative party, with a unified caucus and a strong Prime Minister

leading the country towards prosperity, strength and renewal.

I think Day is and will always be a blunderer. For example, his mishandling of the government response to undercover officers at the protests.

I'm disappointed that nobody has seen the real 'deus ex machina' bethind this corrupt move. First of all, let's all remember that Conservative cabinet ministers are all living the high life and paying their travel expenses on the federal taxpayer nut. Let's then focus our attention on the fact that the speech from the throne is now scheduled to be the day after the Ontario election is over.

Let's then let our minds wander to what John Tory, one of the most inexperienced politicians to ever lead a political party, is facing. John is faced with trying to win an election after the Mike (moron) Harris government so completely screwed the pooch that people in Ontario were actually dying (Walkerton). And Dalton McGuinty brought the province back into surplus, reduced wait times for hosipatl treatment and improved performance in the education system.

It's hard to believe that the Conservative Party is so completely stupid as to think that (lyin') Jim Falherty, (Walkerton) John Baird and (layoff nurses and create huge wait times for cancer treatment) Tony Clement can actually create a positive impression on the Ontario provincial electorate, but hey, these are the same guys who made Mike (moron and - hey now - golf pro) Harris their leader.

Yes folks. That's right. We are all gonna be paying for Conservative federal cabinet ministers to go to work for the Ontario provincial Conservative Party campaign. Jeez, I can hardly wait to see John Baird knocking on my door. Gol-lee.

I think many people on the right were happy when Day lost the leadership.

Power to him for sticking with it though.

He has done a surprisingly good job as a cabinet minister.

I'm sure if, at the time the first cabinet was sworn in, you had asked every Conservative MP and staffer who they thought would do the most pleasantly surprising job as a cabinet minister very few would have mentioned Stock.

Stock? The prime minister who would be but who would never work on Sundays? The guy is the lunatic fringe. I hope they put him to work for Tory. Could be good for at least a few laughs.

I'd think this government is wise enough to know the Oppositon would attack them if they tried something that stupid. Maybe they'll stuff envelopes full of taxpayer cash and leave them on restaurant tables. How evil would that be?

Are you saying that the timing of the speech from the throne is purely accidental? My goodness. You are new. Actually it's not about how stupid they are. It's about how stupid they think we are.

Just another thought along these lines...

We have a Conservative federal government, heavily weighted with former (totally disgraced) Ontario cabinet ministers, that is now going to go to work in an Ontario provincial election. I'll bet this is gonna play just fine and dandy in the rest of the country.

My comment was directed to your accusation that the cabinet ministers will try to claim travel expenses.

OK. I'll wait and see on that issue. Are they going to stop collecting salaries and benefits too?

Just like Steve stood up beside the Con leader in Ontario and said he would be the next premier of Ontario? And, most likely, just like Steve all federal cabinet ministers will just happen to find themselves in the area on "official federal" business, give the Con representative an endorsement, then go back to Ottawa to file their expense claims. That way they can fool us taxpayers all the time and the die-hard-defend-at-all-costs Steve supporters can defend their actions as on the up-and-up.

I thought freedom of religion was guaranteed under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Oh my bad. The Liberal Party of Canada only believes in extending those freedoms at certain times and only to certain people. Forget believing in a religion that isn't politically correct.

You'll get mocked and scorned for it. Even though the majority of Canadians claim to be Christian. Strange how that works.

Do you have some examples of this?

Example #1. In case you have forgotten Warren Kinsella and the way he belittled Stockwell Day's faith on national television with a Barney the Dinosaur doll. Jean Chretien did not object to this stunt. Neither did any member's of Chretien's cabinet or the executive of the Liberal Party of Canada.

Fundamentalist Christians don't fit in with the Liberal Party of Canada's views. That is why it was ok for a special assistant to the Prime Minister to make a mockery of Stockwell Day's faith on national television without fear of reprisal.

Is that good enough for a start?

Much better to do it through Swiss bank accounts...

Almost three thousand people died needlessly and tragically at the World Trade Center on September 11; ten thousand Africans die needlessly and tragically every single day-and have died every single day since September 11-of AIDS, TB, and malaria. We need to keep September 11 in perspective, especially because the ten thousand daily deaths are preventable.

Is Harper the reason why we aren't seeing a majority next election? I think alot of Canadians would buy the Conservative message if Harper wasn't selling it. Just my two cents.

I agree. The Liberals' self-immolation with the sponsorship scandal and the intriguing behaviour of Zaccarddelli (re: income trusts) should've been enough for the Conservatives to win a majority. Why didn't they? Harper.

He needs to go. There is alot of talent in that party capable of delivering majorities. And with a majority, maybe, just maybe, we'll see some fiscal conservatism for the first time in a decade.

He'll get another kick at the can and then get kicked himself. As for fiscal conservatism, the paradigm has shifted so oddly that the best chance on that front is to vote Liberal. They need to placate the centre right to win, with the present Conservatives, the support of the centre right is presumed.

Of course he was ridiculed and of course fundamentalists don't fit in very well with the majority of Canadians either. I think it was important for the public to know that Day is somewhat kooky. Could you imagine Stockwell Day in any portfolio that requires either science or geography? Yes I will say a man who thinks that the dinos died in the great deluge don't deserve parliamentary duty.

Prentice? Unfortunately he's probably a victim of geography. Two straight leaders from Calgary. Don't know how that will sell.

Interesting how geography plays in to this, I couldn't care less where a person is from as long as they are competent. I wonder why anyone else would care....

So he is kooky and doesn't 'deserve parliamentary duty' for having religious beliefs that are different from yours?

Fortunata, can we call this example #2?

Different from 90% of Canada. Different from observable reality.....not much diferent than if Doug Henning was running for PM and suggested that Yogic flyers could protect Canada. Mind you, it's not his religious beliefs that should exclude him, but his pseudo scientific ones.....and his shocking ignorance of canadian geography

I admit I had not heard that before ... Day's belief that the dinosaurs died in the deluge ('Noah' I assume we are talking about)... I must say that is certainly good for a laugh!! :P:lol:

Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Longhouse ... I don't care ... they are religions ... things you believe ... but when they start trying to explain away the natural world where it doesn't agree with their beliefs and IMPOSE that on others ... well ... it does become laughable. If people don't want their beliefs laughed at, they should keep them to themselves. Afterall, beliefs are personal.

My brother and I laugh at my sister-in-laws Shinto religion because there are gods of everything ... may favourite is the god of the toilet. However ... we laugh because it is so true ... so real ... such a practical religion ... a successful trip to the toilet is a gift from god!! :D

Ahhh, he made a mistake in the direction in which the Niagara Falls flow so he shouldn't be in Parliament?

Again, you are just proving the point how liberal voters appeal to the Charter and its guarantees only when it is convenient to them.

Have any of Days' "pseudo- scientific" beliefs effected his performance as a Minister?

I haven't seen any evidence that they have.

While I disagree with making fun of someone's religion, I can't help but wonder what would happen if a politician believed that the earth was flat because of their religion?

They might want to keep that to themselves. ;)

And avoid space trips. :D

The point is ... a politician with extreme beliefs likely won't be a politician for long ... if he/she keeps talking about them.

That's just reality.

The bottom line is that Mr. Day never made his religious views a policy issue or anything of the sort. What people practice and believe, when it doesn't impact anyone else, in the privacy of their own lives is truly not any of our business.

It's funny that the left wing people end that belief when it comes to those with Christian beliefs. How completely hypocritical.

It's too bad Canadians aren't tolerant enough to accept Day, he has been, without a doubt and regarded from all parties, one of the most professional cabinet ministers of this administration.
