kuzadd Posted July 28, 2007 Report Posted July 28, 2007 You know why I stated the quoted statement. How can you say it demonizes you?It simply says that I do understand how you feel about these books (them being your special interest)...comparing to how I feel about mine. And I didn't say that you read ONLY those kinds of books....knowing that I, myself, do not limit my interest on this game alone. How hard is that to understand? I explained about it....in reply to your enumerations of all these books you've discovered and read. I know you love me darlin' Quote Insults are the ammunition of the unintelligent - do not use them. It is okay to criticize a policy, decision, action or comment. Such criticism is part of healthy debate. It is not okay to criticize a person's character or directly insult them, regardless of their position or actions. Derogatory terms such as "loser", "idiot", etc are not permitted unless the context clearly implies that it is not serious. Rule of thumb: Play the ball, not the person (i.e. tackle the argument, not the person making it).
JB Globe Posted August 20, 2007 Report Posted August 20, 2007 The world can pull its collective head out of a sanctimonious hole and clean up other problems before worrying about the United States. Why do you feel the United States can reap all of the benefits that come from being the world's only current superpower - but ignore all of the responsibilities that come with that status? And what do you think the effects are currently of this attitude and what it will mean for America in the future? Quote
bush_cheney2004 Posted August 21, 2007 Report Posted August 21, 2007 Why do you feel the United States can reap all of the benefits that come from being the world's only current superpower - but ignore all of the responsibilities that come with that status? Because it goes with the job description. The Americans have hocked themselves into debt for "responsibilities" going back to WW2, and they should get something for their money and lives. The FSU expected the same after investing in the Eastern Bloc, Cuba, Egypt, etc., but they lost the game. To the victor goes the spoils; even lesser nation states eschew "responsiblities" for self interest....just ask the Rwandans. And what do you think the effects are currently of this attitude and what it will mean for America in the future? America is the same as it ever was, so I expect equal measure of success and failure. For better or for worse, it has succeeded beyond any rebelling colonist's dreams. America does not exist in a vacuum....the world and it's collective stewardship (or lack thereof), has been fertile ground for the emergence of a lone superpower. Indeed, "Americans" (like Canadians), come from all over the world. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
