jdobbin Posted June 19, 2007 Report Posted June 19, 2007 http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/WeirdNews/2007...4273399-ap.html The document, “Guidelines for the Pastoral Care of the Road,” extols the benefits of driving — family outings, getting the sick to the hospital, allowing people to get to work and seeing other cultures. But it laments a host of ills associated with automobiles: Drivers use their cars to show off; driving “provides an easy opportunity to dominate others” by speeding; and drivers can kill themselves and others if they drink, use drugs or fall asleep at the wheel. It warned about the effects of road rage, saying driving can bring out “primitive” behavior in motorists, including “impoliteness, rude gestures, cursing, blasphemy, loss of sense of responsibility or deliberate infringement of the highway code.” It called for drivers to obey speed limits and to exercise a host of Christian virtues: charity to fellow drivers, prudence on the roads, hope of arriving safely and justice in the event of crashes. I think I saw a few people today break all 10 Commandments of the road all at once. Quote
betsy Posted June 20, 2007 Report Posted June 20, 2007 Martino is known as something of a loose cannon at the Vatican, and occasionally his pronouncements have gotten him into trouble. Oh those loose cannons! Every group has them....just like the Liberals got Parrish and Ignatieff. At least this "10 Commandments" ought to help reduce road accidents. And I think that's more important. Quote

capricorn Posted June 20, 2007 Report Posted June 20, 2007 What a load of crap. What's next? Ten Commandments for Pedestrians? How about Ten Commandments for Dealing with Panhandlers? How about the Vatican concentrate on the original Ten Commandments and let us use our common sense with the rest? Quote "We always want the best man to win an election. Unfortunately, he never runs." M.Dancer Posted June 21, 2007 Report Posted June 21, 2007 They should come up with one for forum discussions. Dancer, do you not have a DL? How can you survive?! Quite well thank you! I live in Toronto. I cycle 9-10 months a year. I'm near everything that I need and I figure that last thing anyone needs is a 48 year old with a learners permit. But to be honest, my wife is licensed. Quote RIGHT of SOME, LEFT of OTHERS If it is a choice between them and us, I choose us
Mad_Michael Posted June 21, 2007 Report Posted June 21, 2007 I thought the topic was interesting. It has been the subject of discussion on almost every radio talk show and made papers and TV in every country in the world. That's because it is non-news. Our beloved mass media needs lots of it to survive. Otherwise, they may be forced to actually cover real news and they really do their best to avoid that since it is so uncomfortable for all the right sorts of people. So they cover this kind of non-story instead. Equally profitable without any of the unpleasantness. Quote
