ClearWest
I say it's a circus. The Party is a powerful thing, and it exists to gain more power. It's bothersome to me to see the lengths that they will go to to gain power. Especially since once they have it - they can use it against us to their own benefit. All we have to defend ourselves is a single 1 out of 20 million vote. Well, that and our rights to free speech, arms, and protesting that they have not yet managed to take away from us yet (but you know they're working on it). Michael Bluth
I think that's an embarassingly false choice. Just goes to show how desperate the Liberals are that all their supporters can do is post such a weak poll.

Every few weeks? Not exactly describing the situation honestly... The contrast ads the Conservatives are running is just stealing a page out of Chretien's playbook. Define your opponent on your terms before he has the chance to define himself on his terms. Helped Chretien to win three straight majorities. So I guess it's a good plan. If that's what you think but there were other factors involved with Chretien's wins. A divided right, Mulroney and the ads making fun of his face, then the other one about PMs fromn Quebec. margrace
Negative attack adds are merely a way of hiding the real facts. Who wants them anyway. Let a few young men die needlessly in Afghanistan, we don't care, let children grow up hungry and ill and then put them into jails, we don't care. But for goodness sake can't you do something about the cost of the jails. And one of the main things we have to get rid of is our social programs but don't let that get in the news, keep the idiots listening to the glitz and sickness of our adds. We deserve it anyway

If that's what you think but there were other factors involved with Chretien's wins. A divided right, Mulroney and the ads making fun of his face, then the other one about PMs fromn Quebec. Of course there were other factors involved. But every single campaign Chretien used definition ads. Harper's ads aren't the be all and end all of his path to a majority. But they definitely are helping him get there. Along with a divided left, Dion's questionable leadership and the failed Martin braintrust becoming Dion's braintrust. Catchme
Just goes to show how desperate the Liberals are that all their supporters can do is post such a weak poll. If the Liberals are so weak...then why does the CPC feel the need to bash them in a TV ad every few weeks? That is a very strong point, their are those who are saying the CPC are taking a page out of Chretien's book, apparently meaning during a 'political campaign' as opposed to what they're doing outside the framework of a campaign. Look at them being more worried about making attack ads, and creating photo ops, as opposed to governing the country properly. Of course, that just makes one realize, they do not know what they are doing so, they may as well be busy doing something and smacks way too much of Bush Jr. Then, when one really looks at them making a compare to doing what Chetien did, one really gets perplexed, as Canadians heard they were going to be "different" than the Liberals. Only we find same ole, same ole...... People need to start critically thinking here, like those who say we need to rebuild our military to protect our border. Not seeming to realize just how are our borders going to be protected, while all the military and equipment is in Afghanistan getting blown up and used. Chretien never attacked and demonized his opponents outside a political campaign? Nice qualifier with "properly". Many people think they are governing the country properly. That's why a majority of Canadians oppose an election in the near future.

Well Rod, I don't think you should overlook the likelihood that a large proportion of that group opposes an election until Dion gets all his ducks in a row, precisely because they want no more of Steve's style of government. Who's Doing What?
The tactic is simple yet pathetic. Ignore the message and attack the messenger. It doesn't matter if your opponent brings up a valid point that you should either address or be down right ashamed of. Simply smear him/her and their political party with any dirt that can be dug up. They will be either flustered and angry or trying so hard to explain themselves that their original VALID point will be lost. A perfect example is the boxes of documents which included faxes that seem to indicate some bad behaviour of a certain politician in arranging a riding to call his own. The MESSAGE of the wrong doing was soon shouted down by calling the MESSENGER, the finder of the boxes, a THIEF. They ignored the implications of their own wrong doing and ATTACKED the person who brought it to light. Truly a sad indicator of how pathetic our political climate has become. So remember kids it doesn't matter what the person says. If you can assassinate their character the validity of their oppinions will be lost. Figleaf
What or who is Rod? You are. Rod Love, right? I just assumed, since your every utterance parrots exactly the CPC party talking-point circulars. How could anyone internalize them so quickly and thoroughly unless you were involved in writing them? Also, the way you have been so desperate to defend the indefensible payoff to get MP Hart to resign his seat for Stockwell Day made me think you must be ... close ... to that issue. It's okay to admit you're Rod Love. I can't think any less of you.

scribblet
we don't care, let children grow up hungry and ill and then put them into jailsSo is that the new Liberal attack ads? Sick, hungry children in our jails. We are not making this up! Shhh, don't let the Liberals it LOL notice how the hyperbole heats up as the polls show a CPC advantage. - Notice that much of it is mean spirited and not generally debate. Dion isn't doing well, he has poor communications skills and doesn't appear to have the tough political savvies needed. He's also failed to inspire his own people, never mind the voters who recognize weakness when they see it. The Liberals are busy developing and testing with focus groups, their own electioneering themes and ad concepts - many are negative ads attacking Harper and the CPC, so if these make it to the public, I hope we see the same crit.
