I am getting a "lets got to Cuba for a week" refund and I am sure glad that tax refunds are not taxable.

I'm not getting any, but since I transfer credits to my husband, he will do OK. Down from last year because I had to claim the $ 100.00 per month 'childcare' now that we are raising our grandson. We netted $ 8.33 per month from that. I'm going to Disneyland!

We got a major tax refund this year. This year and next tax season have some one time tax deductions. The budget didn't really effect those deductions.

You could have at least earned interest on the money that was refunded over-taxed . That lost interest is not much different than an extra tax on your refund.

How about this:

The government eliminates all income tax but witholds ALL of your money -- bureaucrats deciding when and how much to refund without your consent.

We do not have time for a meeting of the flat earth society.

I only wish I was in an income bracket that high......

Our trick is having children, saving every receipt for drugs, donations etc, and under reportingtaxable income.

I'm okay with this because like the natives on the west coast who hunt the endangered wine dark whale as a cultural necessity, as an ethnic Gael, hiding coin from the excise man is a treasured cultural quality.

Sounds like Communism to me. Of course, they almost do that now. Don't we work until August for the government and the rest of the year for ourselves? I have no trouble with income tax if it's used to share the wealth...just not for war.

How about good ol' fashioned Police Actions?

Tax Freedom Day is a fraud. If they really wanted a meaningful date, they would estimate how much government inefficiency costs and calculate the " freedom " day by that. Every day after that one you are working for yourself, because ultimately the government is working for you.

I didn't realize that Canada's top marginal top rate was over 91%. Hmmmmm

My niece pays $1000.00 monthly for childcare and that $100.00 per month from the Feds may pay for a couple pairs of shoes!!!

Wouldn't you like to know how much the politicians make, especially, the Finance Minister and see how much they pay in taxes or do they????? I guess he gets a credit for his kids playing hockey.

She should Be thankful for getting $100 of someone else's money. Canadians have a sick obsession with funding other people's life choices. Don't have kids if you can't afford them, it's not hard to research the costs going in.

And we wonder why our birth rates are falling.......

My mother used to say, if we waited till we could adfford children, we would be childless, instead we had children and found ways......

No, you see, these people don't believe in sacrifice. They believe in living exaclty the same before children on my tax dollars.

That's the problem.

"I don't want to work more. I don't want to take a different job. I want my life exactly the same, regardless of the choices I make, and YOU should pay for all the changes!"

Perhaps, but either way, anyone that requests such dollars is saying essientially that. They want me to pay for their choice. Bottom line.

I don't want to pay for other's life choices. That's rather silly, don't you think?

Okay, so we are contemplating our 3rd child. And because we live in Toronto, where simple housing costs are absurd, we are taking into consideration whether we can afford a 3rd child.

A few days ago, a man from a slick new magazine about business sent me an e-mail. He wanted me to do a column for him about what was "new, hot and exciting -- or terrible -- in business today." The only catch was that he did not want me to complain about the rich. This is what I sent him:

Here is what's new and hot and exciting (or terrible) in the world of money today:

The average wage of the American worker adjusted for inflation is lower than it was in 1973. The only way that Americans have been able to maintain their standard of living at the middle and lower ends has been to send more family members to work and to draw down savings or go into debt or both.

When real incomes haven't risen in over 30 years, two incomes become a reality and declining birthrates are inivitable.

Mo worries though, there are immigrants a plenty

Minister's incomes are a matter of record.

Here is a link to the public record.

A Minister makes 147,700 as an MP plus an additional 70,800 for being a minister.

Total remuneration $248,500 plus a small ($2,122 annually) car allowance.

Federal politicians no longer receive any tax free money.

I guess it would depend if you wanted more immigration or more of a self-sustaining society. Your choice.

You can't have it both ways.

I don't really care either way. Why pay for childcare and education when we can import educated adults?

More immigration saves me money.
