Because if if it is, that 13 year old boy has some serious problems

As opposed to the kid who sits at his computer and plays things like Grand Theft Auto where you get points for killing cops and all those other healthy things that are available on electronic media.

Serious problem when a kid looks up to people who are willing to put their lives on the line for their country. Can't have that.

I spent over four years in Air Cadets. I went to three summer camps. Among other things. I learned discipline, respect, the proper use of firearms, how to work as a team, how to clean and press my own clothes properly (I wouldn't let my wife iron my uniform shirts or press my uniform pants when I was still flying) even make a bed properly with proper hospital corners tight enough to bounce a quarter off the top blanket. Oh, the fourth summer I got a scholarship to get my private pilots license which started me on a career in aviation, which I just retired from last year. A lot of the officers in my squadron were WW2 vets and I still treasure what I learned from them. Never did join the military though. Most kids who go through cadet programs don't, but you won't find many who don't have great memories of it.

I hope you are never flooded nor a hurricane or tornado ever hit your house 'cause the Canadian forces (that you so vilify) will be there. Will you spout your hatred at them then? When they are airlifting you off the roof of your flooded house?

Pffffffffft.

Come on now, he will be wearing his Power Ranger slippers and they will ease his mind, provided at least his mommy is still holding his hand.

Brainwashing 13 year olds into a war mentality, is criminal as far as I am concerned.

BUt, I seriously doubt, if this..

from a person in the advertising business...

with a 13 year old son in air cadets who runs to the TV every time he sees it come on

is true.

Because if if it is, that 13 year old boy has some serious problems

Excuse me little peanut... but my son is wiser and more disciplined than YOU are and he is only 13. He has more self discipline, more self respect, more autonomy and more of a future than you could ever dream of having.

...jealous much?

The ads are quite good.

Hopefully the Forces have fixed their recruiting problems. I believe it was only a year or so ago that many qualified applicants including doctors had a hard time getting a response from the Forces. It was featured on CTV.

At the same, the Auditor has looked into management of the Forces and said this was an area that needed work. Hopefully, a new report will show that it has been.

I can affirm that in recent months, my special guy (who has a background in electronic and medical technology) has been actively sought after by Canadian Forces.

Andrew:

No you don't have my views right at all.

Combat missions are only just and proper under a very limited definition; self defense (of oneself and ones allies), and only when the mission is achievable should it be supported. The Afgan mission turned from just war (self-defense) to nation building, and it has lost all hope of success (mainly because pakistan cannot and will not do what needs to be done). Hence the current misison in Afghanistan is primarily a waste of life, and secondly it will invariably lead to corruption and disgrace.

We rank near the very bottom of peacekeeping nations,

Then why bring up this piont at all ? The use of military force is the result of failed diplomacy, when talks fail to produce results.

And according to your definition one would have to have a cystal ball, and already know the outcome of the use of military force (and only when the mission is achievable should it be supported. "your words right")

I'm curious if our nations leaders used that same advice during our past conflicts, such as WWI, WWII or Korea. And in keeping with those same examples did we not learn anything from them, WWI we learned that impossing impossable surrender terms did in fact lead us into WWII, and did we not learn that to the victor goes the responsiablity of rebuilding that nation, Germany case in piont, was rebuilt from the ground up...

My piont here being there is no way of determining the outcome of the use of military force, and the victor does have a responsiablity of rebuilding these nations or face having to do it all over again.

You've already written of Afgan as a lost cause "mainly because of Pakistan" to which is not true, solutions exist to accomplish this mission without direct support of Pakistan, they maybe not showing the results we in our "fast food " mindset would like but they are showing results.

As for it being a waste of life, I've served there, i know many of those that have paid with thier lives, to get this job done, and not one of them would say thier sacrafice has been wasted. in fact it's insulting to suggest that thier lifes have been wasted.

This war is not being faught in Afgan but in our media, in the world media across the globe, The Taliban have no hope in defeating us militarily, in open combat, or in insurgency warfare despite of what they say, or do.. Where they could defeat us is right here in Canada, the battlefield is right inside your TV set, and the casualities are our opinons, for or again'st this mission, and when our nation is divided so is the support needed to win this fight..Want to win this mission then change Canadians opinions, as a united nation the taliban and all those other terrorist groups stand no chance at all.

We, the willing, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have now done so much for so long with so little, we are now capable of doing anything with nothing.

Not in the traditional sense. Nations no longer need to gather foreign resources and bring them back home. Nations do need to install cooperative leaders who will allow for exploitation of land and resources for the promotion of global trade and economies. Andrew

Contradiction........

RIGHT of SOME, LEFT of OTHERS

Has anyone seen these ads? They are a series of b/w clips of Canadian army guys in action, with four simple messages superimposed in sequence: "Fight fear. Fight distress. Fight chaos. Fight with the Canadian Armed Forces."

I think they are fantastic ads. They are forceful and state clearly a purpose you can be proud of doing in the forces, but they don't gussy it up with chrome and flags. I think these ads will appeal strongly to the right kind of recruits. Whoever is responsible for them has done a good job.

AAAAAA! I agree with you.
