deadcivillian Posted March 4, 2007 Report Posted March 4, 2007 Well, seems the good guys have done it again. Associated PressJALALABAD, Afghanistan – U.S. Marine Special Forces fleeing a militant ambush involving a suicide car bomb and gunmen opened fire on civilians in eastern Afghanistan today, wounded Afghans said. Up to 16 people were killed and 34 wounded in the violence. More than a half dozen Afghans recuperating from bullet wounds told The Associated Press that the U.S. forces fired on cars and pedestrians along at least a five-kilometre stretch of one of eastern Afghanistan's busiest highways. "They were firing everywhere, and they even opened fire on 14 to 15 vehicles passing on the highway," said Tur Gul, 38, who was standing on the roadside by a gas station and was shot twice in his right hand. "They opened fire on everybody, the ones inside the vehicles and the ones on foot." Quote
Charles Anthony Posted March 4, 2007 Report Posted March 4, 2007 Welcome, DC, to the forum. Well, seems the good guys have done it again. That certainly sounds ironic. Exactly who is doing what again? deadcivillian Posted March 4, 2007 Author Report Posted March 4, 2007 That certainly sounds ironic. Exactly who is doing what again? Oh excuse me. I assumed the American soldiers are considered the good guys. You know.Spreading democracy and joy and all those neat things. But once again we hear of them doing this sort of thing. Not so sure what was so ironic though Quote
Canadian Blue Posted March 4, 2007 Report Posted March 4, 2007 I think it is obvious no one on this forum care about some dead Afghani citizens.I for one do. By what, making conclusions with very little evidence. And I also care that the American( and Canadian) presence in Afghanistan has resulted in the world being flooded with very potent and inexpensive Heroin which also is resulting in American imposed death on the public I never knew Canadian soldiers were akin to Colombian drug dealers. However, it's also worth noting that you haven't been able to cite anything of substance yet. However your posts which are nothing more than the ravings on a shallow soul, hardly give you much credence on here in the present. Quote "Keep your government hands off my medicare!" - GOP activist

If the soldiers were shooting at civilians then that is very troubling . And I would think that the Sr. brass will have a lot of work ahead in finding out who they were and have them charged. I would think that senior people are reeling as this only muddies the water for them. But none of us are there. And I find it plausible that this happens. These men and women are under intense pressure and no relief. The tours are extended, time off cancelled, provisions running low. And what happens is that the soldiers get caught in a IED trap or gun battle. They are scared and angry and take pot shots at anyone who looks the same. They are professional men and women who can make mistakes. Should it happen? Certainly not. Should they spend 10 years in military prison? Damn right. Quote
PolyNewbie Posted March 5, 2007 Report Posted March 5, 2007 "They opened fire on everybody, the ones inside the vehicles and the ones on foot." There was a video posted on the web showing the Americans having some fun in their SUV while driving along a highway in Iraq. They were just shooting at other cars with their assault rifle for fun, and caused a few accidents and such. Laughing all the way. Quote Support the troops. Bring them home. Catchme Posted March 5, 2007 Report Posted March 5, 2007 Madmax made a very good post, that pretty much sums up how I feel about this too. I am angry for those Afghan civilians being subjected to this. I am angry that the soldiers, are so frightened, sick, weary, disillusioned and over wrought that they could do this. But they still need punishment. Now, how about punishment for those that sent them for nothing? And keep them for even less. Quote When the rich wage war, it's the poor who die. ~Jean-Paul Sartre
obsidian Posted March 5, 2007 Report Posted March 5, 2007 opium production is up 90% since the invasion (i have citation, not atm) almost all of the GDP of afghanistan is heroin. do you think these warlords make money designing clothes? farming? working as a lawyer? stealing everything they have? NO. they get nearly all of their income from opium, and inturn heroin. the largest market for ALL of the worlds drugs is the united states. the primary currency for international drug trafficking is the US dollar. this heroin will assuredly make its way into north america and we inadvertenely support these regimes. however all of these war lords who were at war for control of afganistan, were founded by the CIA to fight of the russian invasion of afghanistan. the us did this to "bleed the dragon". very much the same way the russians were doing in vietnam, supporting the north. and coincidentally enough the war in vietnam also included the trafficking of what? HEROIN. the heroin trade in vietnam was primarily to get support of the indifferent locals to fight against the communists. many observed how south vietnam "wasn't fighting their own war" while GI's went to Saigon or Hanoi on R&R they would see thousands of men 17-30 not fighting, obviously this was very troubling. you can see how economic security, the promise of buying of drugs, can sway the warlords and militias to fight for the cia cause. i was born in 1990 so im to young to have experienced the Iran-Contra scandal, but this was the same thing. the Kerry Commity Report found that the cia was "willingly conducting bussiness with convicted drug dealers", while informed the entire time of the situation aswell as "there could be no doubt they were involved themselves" look it up urself history repeats its self if we remain ignorant... Canadian Blue Posted March 5, 2007 Report Posted March 5, 2007 Now, how about punishment for those that sent them for nothing? And keep them for even less. obsidian Posted March 5, 2007 Report Posted March 5, 2007 cdn blue i dont want this to be seen as flaming, but lets actually have a discussion. it involves input on both sides...you dont seem to be posting anything of sustenance, i just see you attempting to contradict people. not everyone is like you, and requires information to be in the proper format, citation, etc. just because you're to close minded to see past your media constructed world, doesn't mean thats all that exists.
