sideshow Posted March 7, 2007 Report Posted March 7, 2007 I think that this is the most interesting US election in many many years. I feel that the interesting candidates with differing opinions and backgrounds in both parties is very refreshing and will make for a great race. Two bad the US is only one more party than communist Cuba. Quote
ft.niagara Posted March 7, 2007 Report Posted March 7, 2007 Two bad the US is only one more party than communist Cuba. Too bad the US has only one more party than communist Cuba. As opposed to Canada which has only two more, but only one viable. Quote

But in the US you only get to vote for Party A, or Party A-same party for the most part. Quote
Wilber Posted March 8, 2007 Report Posted March 8, 2007 Uh... they have 33 out of 79 seats in the legislature. That's a gain of 31 from their previous standing. This tells me that people have short memories or are quite forgiving of their favourite parties. Forgiving is more like it. While most people wanted to give them a spanking, reducing the house to a two seat opposition was not healthy. 33 is a good number but more than they deserve. bush_cheney2004 Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 No, just a student. The possibility of a woman and negro holding the highest office is just one thing to look at. The fact that it is even a possibility says a lot in itself. Since this area is about "Relations" I am also wondering what we could expect from them.... "Woman" and "negro"??? Are you serious? Guess which American political party "freed" the "Negroes"? Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
bush_cheney2004 Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 And four is still better than two. But in the US you only get to vote for Party A, or Party A-same party for the most part. Then how did Senator Joe Lieberman (Independent) get elected? Greens do not hold a federal office, yet they are counted as a viable party? Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
BubberMiley Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 "Woman" and "negro"??? Are you serious? Guess which American political party "freed" the "Negroes"? What difference does it make? The Democrats in the South were rabidly opposed to racial integration too. Parties evolve. The Republicans of the 1860s are a completely different party with totally different philosophies now. They may still have many of the same members though. Quote "I think it's fun watching the waldick get all excited/knickers in a knot over something." -scribblet

Not totally different.....abolition = antiabortion. I'll bet that same gender marriage was not a big hit in 1860 as well. Not even for "negroes". LOL! Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

Because to all intents and purposes, he was the Republican Party candidate. The Republicans were never going to pose a serious threat to the Dems in Connecticut, but no Republican voter would want a hardened leftie like Lamont in the Senate. Quote
Topaz Posted April 6, 2007 Report Posted April 6, 2007 I think the best thing for the US is to have a Republican President and the senate and congress held by the Dems. This way its the"next guy" as Bush said, cleans up the Republican mess. Quote
ScottSA Posted April 6, 2007 Report Posted April 6, 2007 Giuliani will be the next Pres of the US. I agree. Quote
ft.niagara Posted April 7, 2007 Report Posted April 7, 2007 I like Thompson, but I can remember former NY mayors like Dinkins who were disasters. Giuliani did clean up NY. I remember the subway cars that looked like circus trains, times square which was full of porn, and guys who attacked the winshields with sponges. He went after organized crime as a prosecutor. He is not pretty, but effective. Quote
BubberMiley Posted April 7, 2007 Report Posted April 7, 2007 Attacked windshields with sponges? Sounds terrifying. Quote "I think it's fun watching the waldick get all excited/knickers in a knot over something." -scribblet
