Seems as though Russia and China's stand against the USA attacking Iran is prompting them to curtail their actions in that regard.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Changing course, the United States is joining the Iraqi government in a diplomatic initiative inviting Iran and Syria to a ``neighbors meeting'' on stabilizing Iraq, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Tuesday.

The move reflects a change of approach by the Bush administration, which previously had resisted calls by members of Congress and by a bipartisan Iraq review group to include Iran and Syria in such talks.

``We hope that all governments will seize this opportunity to improve their relations with Iraq and to work for peace and stability in the region,'' Rice told the Senate Appropriations Committee in a hearing on the administration's request for additional war funding.

Some in the media are calling Putin's hard line stance against the uSA today in Germany, shades of the Cold War.

And it seems Russia, unlike some here, is taking USA's actions against Iran seriously. Though Putin has no room to talk, but I guess at least he never considered using nukes!

Much like the Russian General said a couple of weeks backs, and linked here today in the Iran thread, cranked up rhetoric against Muslims and Iran, filling the publics minds with lies, war mongering propaganda as far from the truth as Iraq was, will lead into an attack upon Iran.

However, Putin is clearly putting Russia into play with his comments.

Munich, Germany — Russian President Vladimir Putin blasted the United States Saturday for the "almost uncontained" use of force in the world, and for encouraging other countries to acquire nuclear weapons.

In what his spokesman acknowledged were his harshest attacks on the U.S. since taking office in 2000, Mr. Putin also criticized U.S. plans for missile defence systems and NATO's expansion.

Mr. Putin told a security forum attracting top officials that "we are witnessing an almost uncontained hyper use of force in international relations" and that "one state, the United States, has overstepped its national borders in every way.

"This is very dangerous, nobody feels secure any more

and then there was this:

Mr. Putin said: "I don't want to accuse anyone of being aggressive" but suggested it would seriously change the balance of power and could provoke an unspecified response.

"That balance will be upset completely and one side will have a feeling of complete security and given a free hand in local, and probably in global, conflicts..." he said. "We need to respond to this."

Let's hope they can now come to some diplomatic consensus at this conference, Russia has laid its cards onm the table.

Putin draws line in sand at European conference

Putin with his anti-democratic measures including reining in rights to free speech is demonstrating that he would like to see Russia back to the time he was in the KGB, when he could just make people disappear when they do not agree with the State. What he is ultimately risking is that eventually the democratic free-world will isolate Russia as they have North Korea and Iran. I bet he is real sorry that their constitution now does not allow him to just declare himself to be President for life. Thank God their are clearer heads in Russia, but they had better step on this would-be dictator before he get to choose who is successor will be like they still do in Cuba, and other backward countries. I believe Venezuelais heading in the saem direction, because Chavez is thirsty for power, and that is a real bad combination to have a leader who wants power, and has no brains.

In short - 'Russia' is a dear old name for a people that are disintigrating. The height of Russian 'power' is now. It 'ebbs and flows' as they say, but is now in a phase unlike of which has never been encountered in any society, ever before.

It is in it's death throews... The biggest nuclear arsenal in mankinds history will be left to the people that never made it - to dispose of. THIS will be the largest threat to the 'western world' in our time.

Cleaning up others people's messes.... Is there truly anything more American than that?

Cleaning up others people's messes.... Is there truly anything more American than that?

Don't you mean cleaning up your own mess?

Lets just name a couple of the screwups by the esteemed states in recent history.

1. Financing of AQ, Bin Laden and Taliban precursors in Afghanistan circa 1980ies by US. Feeding the same enemy that would later turn on its master. All for what? To screw over the Soviet Union? Why so surprised that Russia is helping Iran against US now?

2. Tacitly approving and supporting the wars by Saddam Hussein against his neighbours. Mind you he was later condemned for those wars, even though he engaged in them with the full knowledge and approval of his american masters. By the way, good job lopping off Saddams head. Would've looked better if he was actually convicted of his crimes by a proper court before he died, instead of pathetic puppet court.

Oh wait, if Saddam was given a chance to defend himself properly, he'd walk free and some unfortunate US decisions would be exposed. Kind of the same thing as would've happened in Milosevic trial had he not died of a "heart attack".

As far as Putin and democracy goes...I don't live in Russia, so I certainly cannot vouch for how free or unbiased their press is. I do however watch Fox news, CNN and so on quite frequently. I haven't seen worse journalism ever. Talk about unbiased press, lol. Mass media in the states has reached levels of brainwashing that NK can only dream of.

Secret police? Making people disappear? Journalist murders? House explosions? Watch more Fox please.

There is no evidence that links Putin to any journalist murders, so trying to blame him of it smacks of prejudice. Might as well claim Bush orchestrated 9/11 himself. And contrary to the popular (all too often ignorant) opinion, Litvinenko case *still* has no conclusive ties to Kremlin.

If you're not completely zombified yet, take a look around your own country, or maybe even Europe. France for example passed laws that allow them to fine and jail people for passive soliciting (ie. if you look like a prostitute, you may be charged, even if you didnt actually do anything). Or yeah, that new law that forbids ANYONE who is not a professional journalist from filming violence on the streets (police action included).

Shall I even bring up legalization of torture in US, confessions elicited at gunpoint (see the most recent one with that arab from g.bay), wiretapping abuse by Homeland security and a tendency of CIA to nab ANYONE and hold them in detention as long as they want without trial or access to advocates?

Damn. And i thought China was a police state.

For your information, from 1990 and up Russia was in a state of complete anarchy. Now that is REAL FREEDOM. Kind of freedom that even democracy cannot provide. Now they're of course fixing things up a little. Did you know by the way that Russia has a multiparty system, as opposed to two party system of USA? Thats closer to what a real democracy is supposed to be.

Democracy? US doesnt know what a democracy is. Never did. Free country? As if.

Yes, the living conditions are better than elsewhere for now, but that is only the momentum at this point. In a few years the system will disintegrate and the power will completely and irrevocably (for the near future) shift to the BRIC or BIC (Brazil Russia India China or Brazil India China)

Mind you, I live in US and I intend to stay here for as long as it needs to get what I want out of this country. I hold no loyalty to it or to any other country for that matter. I think constant warfare and strife is good, so I don't blame USA for what it is doing to ensure its supremacy over everyone else. Eventually all empires fall though and we right now are witnessing the fall of West (USA, Europe, Canada and so on). Socialism does not work and this will further prove it. I have no hate or dislike towards any country really, I just hate seeing people spewing nonsense about how free USA is, when its anything but.

Night everyone

Why is Russia attacking the US? Money. Money. Money. The Russians are making money in Iran. The Russians are working with Iran on their oil development. The Russians are selling Iran military equipment. The Russians are selling Iran nuclear equipment.

So, it sounds like you are indicating the return of the Cold War.

Here's a fun question ... If Bush wants to invade Iran because it's supporting Shiites in Iraq, but really Iran itself is just a puppet of Russia, shouldn't Bush invade Russia?

I never understood why the Russkies support any Islamic nation. Especially after the crap they had to deal with in Chechnya. I cant see the Russians having any huge love for the Iranians. I think its more economically motivated then anything.
