jbg Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 There are a bunch of questions I need help with answering. All help would be welcome: Why are First Nation band leaders so rich and their people so miserable? Why are most Natives so poor and miserable given the amount the government invests in helping them? Why are most "Palestinians"so poor and miserable given the amount the UN and others invest in helping them? Why are Katrina victims so poor and miserable given the amount that charities and the government invests in helping them? How much aid to Africa gets to help the pitiful-looking children on aid posters? If the US joined Kyoto and all nations, including the US, abided by and obeyed or exceeded GHG reduction targets, how much would world temperatures drop? If the US joined Kyoto and all nations, including the US, abided by and obeyed or exceeded GHG reduction targets, when would world temperatures drop? What effort is Robert Mugabe making to improve living conditions in Zimbabwe? What effort is Hugo Chavez making to improve living conditions in Venezuela? Where can I find a book on great Arab democracies? And, for Polynewbie, where are the US's and Canada's concentration camps? These questions are ones I can't figure out the answers to. Any help would be appreciated. Quote Free speech: "You can say what you want, but I don't have to lend you my megaphone." BC_chick Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 Any help would be appreciated. Historically it's always been the same - oppressed peasants fight for equality until they get to the top and they turn out worse than the previous dictators. Orwell's Animal-Farm syndrome if you will. Studies show that the less power one has over their own life, the more likely they are to abuse those who are below them on a social scale. That's the same phenomenon behind why there is so much more domestic abuse in lower-income families of any race or creed. As a human being I can only explain what we observe of ourselves. Why we're wired like that... you'll have to take up with God. Quote It's kind of the worst thing that any humans could be doing at this time in human history. Other than that, it's fine." Charles Anthony Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 Allow me. And, for Polynewbie, where are the US's and Canada's concentration camps? They are maintained in our own minds and in how we choose to frame our questions.I have a question of my own: A Modern "Blowin' in the Wind"How can you modernize something that is eternal? On the last one, the first of those sites is a bit over the top. The second one I couldn't quite make heads or tails of. Any help would be appreciated. 1) the guy at the top is always the one getting paid more than anyone else. 2)I dont think that is true.."most"?..plenty sure, but casinos are paying them. 3)In large part due to Arafat. He controlled billions and no one knew (other than his wife) where the accounts were. Keep 'em poor and Arafat looks good.It worked I suppose 4)Katrina victims should have had more done, more infrastructure , more immediate aid etc.Not necessarily more cash or those credit cards, but considering all the oil and goods that flow through without benefit, I am of the opinion that Yes...more should have been done. GWB dropped the ball on that one 5) sadly not enough. But cash is needed to be able to just get into the countryside to help out. Its is called bribes and they are legion, even aid workers carry US cash to get them out of problems 6)7) Sorry, cant get into that debate 8) None, he is only wanting to line his pockets in prep for his final days, which could not come soon enough 9)Keeps gas at pennies per litre , gives Alaskans a huge break in heating oil , other than that, he is an asshat of unequaled propertions but his own people hate him, except for anti-US stance. 10)Between the "Great Jewish Athletes" book and the "Great Canuck World Leaders" book ( i keed i keed) 11) in the US they are in Arizona and Cali , the whole state is a camp of illegals, and in Canada they are in Alta since they think they have the "concentration" of wealth in the country. I trust I have been most helpful in your search for enlightenment....anytime I can help Quote

Any help would be appreciated. 1. This is not a universal condition. Many band leaders are not rich. In some cases where there is a disparity, it's because the leaders engage in political corruption (not unlike other polities we could name). In other cases leaders are better off than their people because they are more educated or capable than their average constituent. 2. A mix of inadequate money being spent unwisely, in some cases on futile efforts. Plus, some problems arise from socio-cultural factors that money doesn't help address. 3. Because their society is being held hostage to the interests of Likudist expansionism. 4. See 2. 5. I don't know. 6 and 7. I don't know, but the principle behind Kyoto would be sound even if there were no climate change threat. An economic system is needed to restrain not just greenhouse gasses, but the imposition of negative pollution externalities in general. 8. It doesn't seem like Mugabes efforts are improving life in Zimbabwe at all. (Are you aware of anyone who is a Mugabe booster outside of his backyard?) 9. Chavez is pursuing a program ostensibly intended to reduce the sharp disparities between haves and have-nots in Venezuela. Whether his policies will be successful in this regard is an additional question. Quote
