More like not getting value for money spent.

Spending money year after year (37% sent to CBC from CTF) to develop programs that nobody watches, on top of the $1 billion it already gets, plus all the other funding from government agencies, CBC is just a money pit, a pot to piss away $$. It has yet to prove it's worth.

I thought the funding goes to program producers, not to the CBC. Am I wrong?

Well it airs a show called Little Mosque on the Prairie which has a goal to ease 'tensions' between white Canadians and Islamic Canada post 9-11.

Isn't this doing our country a service and providing a value onto Canadians that is priceless?

I think a show about dumb white prairie folk not smart enough to "get" Muslims will backfire and piss off anyone who happens to catch the show - that's not a service.

The only service a show like this provides is reinforcing the self-imposed Toronto Ideology that everyone in the world (brown, blue yellow, red and black) is smar, interesting and diverse, except the simple, truth-telling, straight talking working class people of western Canada.

With a response like that, I can believe it.

Of course. It was well-written and made a valuable point. But because it pointed out the clear bias of the CBC you felt fit to attack the poster...

I thought the show was great. Will it win any awards - not likely, but it does provide a humerous look at the new Canadian reality. I think those "righties" who oppose public broadcasting should write their MP's or sent a petition to Harper himself. The ball is in his court now.

That is a pretty liberal use of the term " well-written " .

OK, it was a bit of a run-on sentence and one type. But for this board that is a well-written sentence!

The CBC does not represent public broadcasting.

It broadcasts commercials, still competes directly with private broadcasters in sports (a field that is done more efficiently and effetively by the private broadcasters), and it takes much more Government subsidy than would be necessary to prevent an alternate vision to the "corporate media".

Why should a true public braodcaster have such a broad mandate?

If it were truly a public broadcaster there wouldn't be any issues with it...

I watched the show tonight I didnt find it offensive to conservatives at all. I dont think it was a great show, but it didnt insult me in anyway. That bit about where the girl comes out in a belly shirt and the old Muslim guy says you look like a "Protestant" and she goes "You mean prostitute." And he says "No Protestant". That was kind of funny. I dont think its fair to say that it makes jokes about Conservative Christians and makes none about Muslims. From what I saw the show was making more of a funny view of the Islamic family, the same way that Jewish people make fun of their own culture in TV shows or like "My Big Fat Greek Wedding". That bit about the Protestant/Prostitute------thats actually making fun of the guy who said it. Like Archie Bunker.

You found that *kind of* funny?

It wasn't offensive, just plain stupid and dull with a bunch of lame jokes.

Seems like they are sewing the seeds for a standard sexual tension comedy between the Imam and the hottie mixed-race doctor...

I caught the show for the first time tonight. Some funny parts, some stereo-types, and a lot of wishful thinking.

But I laughed at this (paraphrased) part....

"But it's a natural fact, that men get distracted when there are women around."

"Well, maybe they can get those cones that you put around dog's faces."

I'm curious to see what this week's ratings are like. I've got a hunch that a large portion of the 1st week's viewers were people who checked in to see what all the fuss was about and decided there wasn't much to see.

I taped the show, but I haven't watched it yet (I was hoping for MikeDavid00000's review first. ;) )

I notice from myself and other guys as well, that when walking through a shopping mall our heads turn a lot more than those of females.

I'm curious to see what the ratings are as well. Supposedly they topped two million for the premiere.

If they held on to more than a million of those viewers for week two I'll be shocked...

Apparently about 660,000 viewed it and they showed the wrong episode.

I'm interested in taking a look at where you saw that.

By wrong episode do you mean 660,000 viewers actually watched the premiere again or was this a different, previously unbroadcasted episode that they hadn't meant to show?

Yes and a lot more things.

The meaning of yesterdays show.. the moral of the story IMO is that white people corrupt the mosque. Like how she grabbed her husbands butt in the mosque. That is a big big no no. And I feel a lot of Muslim and immigrant families probably turned off the television when the sex stuff started.

I noticed they repeated the premiere this Monday, which seemed like kind of a brain-fart to me. An unprecedented viewership for last week's premiere, and instead of a new episode, they air a repeat? Maybe they were afraid that Jack Bauer would come in from the other channel with both guns blazing and ice their entire cast.

However, it sounds like last night's episode was a new one.
