Charles Anthony Posted December 28, 2006 Report Posted December 28, 2006 That depends: VHS or DVD? If it is VHS, my answer is No. If it is DVD, my answer is a provisional Yes. I would give it a try. betsy Posted December 28, 2006 Report Posted December 28, 2006 With all the changes and all the things happening around us at a fast rate....I try to envision how Canada and the world will be like 50 years from now. I am pessimistic. My consolation: I most probably wouldn't be around by then....and I do not have any children of my own. Quote
PocketRocket Posted December 28, 2006 Report Posted December 28, 2006 The future has always looked ugly, except to those for whom it has looked bright. As for living there, we already do. Each new second IS the future, until it becomes the past. And for the doomsayers, well, read "1984". It seems we've delayed that sad vision this far. No reason to believe we won't continue doing so. DarkAngel_ Posted January 17, 2007 Report Posted January 17, 2007 oh great, now i have to talk crazy again... a dreamer (those who help make future things possible in MY definition, like scientists, inventors, scholars, and philosophers.) would not dream of inventing annoyances, but instead to be rid of them, he would not make people hate mutants: for they are NOT mutants, and if indeed we are not alone, we may be too different to live together, but rather, would stay out of each others business. i do not prefer tight cloths, and i'm sure not allot of people do, but if you see this happening in 50-100 years, where is the logic in wearing tight cloths! as for women i would say: please wear tight cloths! but i do not prefer wearing them. as for flying cars; think of how fast they would go, make'em just right and yes, i would want a flying car (as long as they did not add to pollution) monochrome sky? where did this come from? i like blue!! easier on the eye's-just as well- it would be very difficult to put that much crap in the atmosphere making it that color and dulling the cloud cover... i don't think we'll change it intentionally. (also i got an awesome idea on a habitat improvement program) also, big question: why don't you like being watched? paranoia problem? i got 1 too, but i usually have no reason for others to show interest so high as to be discreet about finding out about me. also i'm sure if 'all the world' is set on preserving our freedoms, it will be easier to not be spied on, i hope we learn(like i have) to contain paranoia, nor cause it, and do what’s best even if that means changing on a dime. also the mars thing; its uninhabitable, and NO ALEINS live their, we could terraform it though... here’s my recipe for teraforming: 1) First is atmospheric conversion: from carbon based only(mostly toxic) to hydrogen-oxygen using alge. 2) Vent thermal energy to raise temp. 3) Make a Running water system, cause evaporation and condensation by draining lost water to old water beds. 4) Enrich ground soil and plant plant-life near water. 5) Serve on dish prepared hot with brown gravy and enjoy! as for dinner, i'm eating good, and a capsules that turns into a steak dinner that’s good for you! dam right im eating it!!! (as for just capsules, no way, and i'm sure it will never come to that for a very long time, food is just too good ) on a brighter note: the future will be good, if you WILL it to be good, actions of every person down to that 40 yr-old guy living in his mothers basment hiding, determines the future. what do you want it to be? cause goble warming is the 'go-ahead' here in the states, and if we continue, mars will have a twin... Liam Posted January 17, 2007 Report Posted January 17, 2007 People have such funny views of the future, either it is utopian (with people elegantly gliding to distant places in their hover-vehicles, clean, no poverty, etc.) or dystopic (Bladerunner, 1984). I see nothing in our history to make me think it will fall into either extreme. I think the future will be much like today with people debating politics and ethics, focusing on their kids' education, worrying about the environment and, all the while, scientific discoveries will gradually push new technologies. While I see some environmental messes in our future and also the need to ration Earth's limited resources, I also think that quality of life for the vast majority of people in the world will not change. Canadian Blue Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 I predict all of the women will become infertile in 3 years, and the only country left standing after the world goes to shit will be England. In England it will be a big brother state, with poverty, and civil strife, however people will still attempt to move there. However this will cause a backlash and the government will hunt down illegal immigrant's and send them to refugee camp's. Quote "Keep your government hands off my medicare!" - GOP activist

kimmy Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 who wants to live in small cubicles Kimmy: provisional yes, providing that the rent is cheap and there's enough space for my computers, my punching-bag, and a double bed. eat capsules instead of foodKimmy: no thanks. I love real food, and if things ever get to the point where we need fake food, I hope they can at least make fake-food that seems like real food. drive flying cars Kimmy: hell yes! I deserve an awesome car, and someday I will be able to afford one. It seems only natural that my car should fly. I won't need a supercharger, I'll have afterburners instead! yay! wear tight outfits like ballets Kimmy: well, not right now; I'm packing a few extra winter pounds. I wouldn't be opposed to it, but that doesn't seem to be where fashion trends are heading anyway. live in ugly Mars and mutant aliens Kimmy: no thanks. sounds like Vancouver's East Hastings Street. beeped and buzzed all the time Kimmy: welcome to 1999. This is why I don't even own a cell phone; I simply don't care to be beeped and buzzed all the time. living under a monochorme sky Kimmy: again sounds too much like Vancouver. Pass. under constant survilance with a big brotherly activity Kimmy: according to some people, we already are. I'm ok with cameras in public areas, but I'm not favorable to monitoring of personal communications without reasonable cause. etc etc ....Kimmy: sometimes I feel excited about the promise of the future. Sometimes I fear that it will be too controlled. It seems like each passing year brings increased pressure on us to limit our activities more and more. First fuel prices and smog put automobile culture and the great American road trip on notice. Then AIDS came along and made sex dangerous instead of fun. Now there's so much anxiety over the environment that people are supposed to feel guilty for even leaving a light on and it seems like we're constantly being reminded of violence and crime. If we're looking at movies as an example of what our future might be like, it seems like what we're heading for is more Blade Runner than Star Trek. I see a handsome, yet gritty guy in the lead. Maybe a Clive Owen-type. And a girl. Julia Roberts. No, too tall, too imposing. Smaller. Siena Miller? Who is she anyway? Quote

But it would be similar to the problem's we have in the world with reference to the Patriot Act, Palistine Israel conflict, illegal immigration, and the question of life, and the war on terror, however this would all be happening in England. geoffrey Posted January 19, 2007 Report Posted January 19, 2007 Mustapha Mond can exile me to Greenland. That's what I'm going for. As long as I'm an Alpha... which obviously I would be. Most people think the ideas of A Brave New World are frightening, for some reason I actually seem them as quite utopic. The efficiency is brilliant. Perhaps the lack of personal freedom is frightening, but can you miss something you've never known? The higher castes in the novel do have a considerable amount of freedom I suppose anyways. The lower intelligence people are left out of the decision making, which is something democracy needs to learn how to do without being offensive. DarkAngel_ Posted January 19, 2007 Report Posted January 19, 2007 Mustapha Mond can exile me to Greenland. Burr! That’ll be a cooooold vacation... Just as well, this prediction of the future is a pre 80's mars invasion type style, and is not accurate... give me 3 months and i could predict... not really well but i could try to use logistics and statistics to help predict it OK. Also the question: "would you like to live here" in terms of the future is as confusing as asking: "are we giant midgets, or are they miniature us?"
