Hattip:Trooper599 CKA.. Actually, two days ago they had something like this on the CBC where an ambush took place. Wasn't as long as that but showed how intense the battle was. Pretty scary stuff though from this video. Quote

geoffrey Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 Its fantastic stuff Geoffry.. hey.. why don't you enlist and go over and help spread some freedom??? My skills are more applicable in Canada. I'll leave the fighting to the professionals, though if there were ever a crisis where my skills were needed in the forces, I'd contribute. I'd probably be pretty useless in combat, I'm a freakin' bean counter student, not exactly GI Joe... Quote RealRisk.ca - (Latest Post: Prosecutors have no "Skin in the Game") --

Yeah I realize that you are perhpas not suited at this point to a career in soldiering but the AF provide ample training and will equip you very well for the mission. I'd hate to think you were a chickenhawk type. Quote "They muddy the water, to make it seem deep." - Friedrich Nietzsche

I'd hate to think you were a chickenhawk type. I don't think support for a war and an unwillingness to fight in it are suffcient to warrant the chickenhawk name. I reserve that for people who, in addition to the former traits, also project warrior attributes onto themselves, despite only seeing combat in HALO 2. I do find comfort in how disciplined and well trained our troops were. And the technological advantage we hold over the Taliban. The technological advantage isn't worth much. The Russians had that too, remember? Quote

Thanks Black Dog, I'm definitely no Bush flying in on aircraft carriers shouting look at me type. Everyone can't be a solider. I can support humanitarian action, which essientially is the objective of the war in Afghanistan, without needing to go fight in it. I do find comfort in how disciplined and well trained our troops were. And the technological advantage we hold over the Taliban. The technological advantage isn't worth much. The Russians had that too, remember? True, but it seems like we're doing better than the Russians. We at least have the will of the people on our side, the Russians were hated occupiers. If a few drug dealers and terrorists is what we're up against, then I think we and the Afghan people will prevail. I'm sure very few civilians in Afghanistan want the Taliban back in power. jdobbin Posted August 10, 2006 Report Posted August 10, 2006 I assumed it was filmed with permission. Apparently, it has caused quite a commotion in the forces and Ottawa in regards to security. Quote
Charles Anthony Posted August 10, 2006 Report Posted August 10, 2006 I assumed it was filmed with permission.Do you really want that much detail documented and RELEASED to the entire world???Who would grant such permission? Argus Posted August 10, 2006 Report Posted August 10, 2006 I assumed it was filmed with permission.Do you really want that much detail documented and RELEASED to the entire world???Who would grant such permission? What detail? I saw nothing in those videos which reveals anything about tactics and doctrine. It shows disciplined soldiers in combat conditions, but I don't see a thing which a watching enemy would be able to use to their advantage. According to DND, some show operational tactics and other details. I'm not an expert on security so I have no idea what might have been revealed. I think they are trying to have the videos pulled off the website. Quote
Army Guy Posted August 10, 2006 Report Posted August 10, 2006 Videos can show them alot of info, to those that know what to look for like equipment thier using, radios, wpns, where they seasoned troops or green horns, how they reacted to the situation, what other equipment they used in their counter attack IE arty, air support...etc. alot of things can be determined and if they know our drills and tactics they can modify thiers to produce more cas.... To the untrained eye it's just entertainment... But what i think concerns them the most is that it is raw footage , unedited, of Canadian soldiers engaging and killing the taliban...Yes the Canadian public knows we are killing bad guys, but they are not ready seeing us doing it...And those that took it should have known better... Army Guy Posted August 10, 2006 Report Posted August 10, 2006 Should they be edited first? Yes they should to ensure that they contain no info for the bad guys, and second do you think the AVG joe is ready to see a Canadian soldier take the life of a bad guy. War is pretty graphic, nothing like the movies... It is my personal opinion that they are not ready for it. shit soldiers are barely ready for it.
