August1991 Posted June 2 Report Posted June 2 Pierre Trudeau famously said that the measure of a country is how the majority treats the minority. IMHO, many people in Alberta, Saskatchewan are a minority in Canada - but they deserve respect. Quote

IMO, all taxpayers in Canada deserve much more respect than the Liberal gives them. Canadians are not tax cattle or sheep to be fleeced. paxamericana Posted June 3 Report Posted June 3 (edited) Alberta has two option should secession succeed. 1) Negotiate a better trade deal as an independent country than it current has as a province . 2) Join the US, in which case it would still be a net contributer to uncle sam coffer but not as severe as it would be as a province currently. This is before the added benefit of becoming a petrol dollar world currency reserve status. Edited June 3 by paxamericana Quote

Do you think Albertans would be willing to accept the United States Constitution if Alberta became a state, with its built‑in safeguards against tyranny? Among those safeguards, the Second Amendment is a prominent one—and I get the feeling that most Canadians oppose it. But the problem with the Second Amendment is that its meaning has been distorted by both the left and the right, often through exaggeration. Liberals tend to believe that anyone has a right to own weapons—and everyone does—but the right doesn’t believe that everyone should have unrestricted access. In fact, conservatives generally think certain people should be under heavier restrictions than others, such as individuals with violent histories or felonies. They also support policies like stop‑and‑frisk, which has shown some effectiveness in high‑crime neighborhoods. Liberals, on the other hand, are often more willing to give the federal government powers beyond what the Constitution grants. Conservatives believe that states have the right to do anything they want as long as they don’t directly violate an amendment or a constitutional provision. Quote
