No matter what race, country of origin or religion you are, if your criminal record isn't completely clean, or if you are in any way associated with a terrorist organization you are banned from coming to our country.

Hicksey, the current immigration law is written exactly as you suggest.

I hate to even post on such an offensive and idiotic thread but to add to Hicksey's comments, I say we ask all immigrants:

1) Do you hate Jews? Do you believe Israel has the right to exist?

2) Do you feel women are equal to men? Do you feel women should be treated equally?

3) Do you agree with Canadian foreign policy?

4) Do you hate Americans?

5) Do you hate homosexuals?

6) Do you believe in Jihad or violence to solve problems?

It is possible to take this too far. We all know that part of our culture is having the right to have our own opinions no matter how good or bad they may be. If we start excluding people on things like race, religion and idealogy we'd be hypocrites for ignoring our own constitution's guarantee of those rights. I think a clean criminal record and no terror links is a very reasonable place to start our immigration reform. But I think that 3 summary offenses or 1 indictable offense in their first 7 years should result in immediate deportation, forfeiture of citizenship and lifetime banishment from Canada.

Possible but I don't think this line of questioning is too far. We don't allow Nazi's in because of their ideology why should we allow fascists of any other stripe in?

My understanding is that we do not allow Nazis because of their actions (i.e., specific actions during WW2 or elsewhere) not on their beliefs. We do not ask immigrants what their political thoughts happen to be, do we?

He was speaking in a satirical format to show how stupid it sounds. He was not speaking literally. He is taking what he thinks is an absurd or questionable point of view to its extreme conclusion in an attempt to laugh at it.

Going back to what I Love Reagan said and I covered in another reply, Reagan I mean that is what it does get down to when we pursue these kinds of arguements-who decides the test for acceptability and how to they define it?

That is not a left or right wing type question but it is a question that can bring about some very confusing responses as we are seeing on these immigration issue posts.

I think Canada is finding itself for the first time questioning what is its true identity after years of trying to be British then trying to be everything to everyone all the time.

I apologise. You're correct. I did too quick a scan. However, I suggest you check your post on the 13th of March for clues as to why you were suspended. I'm guessing this had more to do with the suspension than calling Liberals stupid.

It looked to me to be a metaphor for the suggested immigration reforms aimed at Muslims.

I wonder why race should play any part. Why can't we come up with security policies that apply as well against whites as blacks, or as well against catholics as against muslims?

That such a policy is even being considered show just how broken our immigration system is.

uh here's a thought, most refugees dont have "papers" or any kind of "record" - they are by definition "refugees" - people fleeing a dangerous situation in their homeland - escaping an unstable political situation that has resulted in such things as genocide, ethnic cleansing etc.

So why dont we send them all back to get their "papers" from the government they are fleeing from in the first place ?

Does anyone on this forum actually read anything other than the headlines in their newspaper? Or ever think gee I dont know why thats like that -- maybe I should do some research on it, talk to informed people, look into that act ......and then form an educated opinion .......?

And btw imo the Liberals ARE stupid and so are the Conservatives and more than a few of the NDP - and probably 98% of Politicians, did you ever ask yourself WHY they become Politicians in the first place? Maybe 2% want to do something good for Canada, the rest of them want the limelight and the power ....

I suspect that Harper like Bush thinks he is speaking for God and is going to whip all those sinners into shape - the Christian Right will kill every sonofabitch in this world who isnt kowtowing to their God and their white right to rule ... and women may be white but they aint got the right ........ White Christian Males will rule the world - Blair and Harper will have to fight for the right to be Crown Prince in Bush's Kingdom --

And no one will have to worry about black immigrants, or muslims or whatever - because there aint gonna be any -- so sit back, let Bush and Harper and Blair keep on killing and the problem will be solved -- no worries .......
