Federal Gasoline Tax The federal government imposes an Excise Tax on gasoline, which is currently at 0.10 CAD per liter. This tax is used to fund various federal programs, but a portion is earmarked for infrastructure, including road maintenance. So do we raise taxes to account for the cost of grease or invest in making institutional changes that might actually lead to lower taxes, better allocation of the public's money, and maybe a few less potholes?
