Jamil Jivani is heading to the US to help to help with stalled  trade talks , He is going to use his personal relationship with JD Vance to get things started once again....And while this has been blessed by Pierre, He does not say if it is blessed by Carny....I know the liberals are going to hate on this move....but right now there is no movement on the issue, Carney continues to put his foot in his mouth by making fun of Trump....or at least that is how trump perceives it....He is not going down there to solve the trade talk issue, he is going down to restart the talks get some conversations going once again.....This fits in with what came out of the convention to be more cooperative with getting things done in Parliament, and while they disagree with the new food allowance they are voting to approve it....We will have to wait and see what happens with all of this , will the liberal accept this help or freeze him out...It will show us where the liberals stand....for the party or the country...

Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand will meet with her international counterparts in Washington. Not sure what the intent of Jivani dealing with Vance is. It seems to me Trump is pushing Vance farther and farther into the background.
Carney has never insulted Trump...it is completely and issue of how Trump perceives it. If he does not like what is said or was said...he will make noise about it.

Harper also told the cons to be cooperative yesterday at his portrait unveiling.

Carney has never frozen PP out.

At least Jivani is making an honest effort which is more than can be said about Carney.

It seems obvious at this point that Carney has little interest in getting a deal with the US since the anti-Trump angle really helps him with his base. It's pretty much the only thing they care about now.

Carney is clearly no fan of Trump but he does love the US, at least in terms of it being the best country to invest in.

In other news...

I am glad that some conservative is trying help Canada, as Harper asked them o do. Would have been better had PP gone but....

Having said that...a back bencher going to see Vance (a personal friend of Jivani) is like asking Milania to decide policy LOL

Carney has never said a disparaging word against Trump. He has made comments on policies that hinder reputation and trade.

And yes, the US is still a reasonable place to invest...ask you bank where they invest your money. Ask your union where they have investments. Ask your pension plan where they have invested.

Well, just for arguments sake

"Canada has significant foreign investment, ranking as a top destination globally with a high foreign direct investment (FDI) stock-to-GDP ratio, particularly in energy, mining, manufacturing, and finance

. As of 2025, it remains a premier destination for global capital, often ranking 2nd in the G20 for FDI attractiveness.
Key Facts on Foreign Investment in Canada (2025-2026):
  • High Volume: Foreign investors significantly increased their holdings in Canadian securities throughout 2025, with major investments in corporate bonds and equities."

It's like taking a shot at Trump without actually naming him. Like him or not, Trump will name names and isn't shy about calling out other leaders to their face. Carney is rather two-faced when it comes to Trump. He talks tough at times, but when in the presence of Trump, he was practically fawning over the man. Trudeau also had the bad habit of speaking negatively of the president, who is notoriously thin skinned and it wasn't helpful to Canada/US relations.

What are some of the comments Carney has made about the US?

"The old relationship based on "deepening integration of our economies and tight security" is over."

"The decades-long process of closer economic ties is now over."

The prudent thing to do would be to work out the issues with Trump, as most other leaders have been able to do.

Why hasn't he? I do buy into the theory that feuding with Trump helps Carney in the polls, regardless of how much it hurts our economy and that's why he's not trying to resolve the problem.

Yup, don't pi$$ off the bully...that is well known...by all the leaders in the world now.  There is not a leader that has come to trump palace that has not sat and smiled at him while stewing inside.

For sure Trudeau really pi$$ed off Trump the foist time but he was stupid and did it in front of the cameras.

And what about the comments were or  are not true?

I wish it were true and we were able to to work things out but, as we all know, what trumps does and says today can very well not be the same as whet he says and does tomorrow. I think Carney, moving on, is the wise thing to do.

I think by saying little, Carney is doing the right thing.  As a famous American president said, "Speak softly and carry a stick""

"Prime Minister Mark Carney said Conservative MP Jamil Jivani received a briefing by Canada-U.S. Trade Minister Dominic LeBlanc, in response to questions from reporters about Jivani’s upcoming visit to Washington D.C.

“We have extensive contacts with the U.S. administration, constant contact with the U.S. administration,” Carney told reporters on Wednesday. “Minister LeBlanc gave a briefing to Mr. Jivani, who I don’t believe is the trade critic for the opposition, certainly not the minister of international trade, nor the prime minister.”"

"In a post on X on Tuesday, Jivani said his trip to Washington is a chance to help Carney with the upcoming Canada-United-States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) review."

"

"Industry Minister Melanie Joly said Jivani should be doing more to denounce GM’s actions, which are directly impacting his constituents.   I haven’t heard once, not only denouncing what GM was doing, but also promoting the interests of the workers at GM that are facing unjust and unjustifiable tariffs by the American administration,” she said. “And he should be talking much more about it.”"

Maybe joly should spend some time doing a little research on the topic , before she puffs up her chest and spouts garbage....But this is what we will see from liberals, they are not interested in receiving help from the conservatives....Only the liberals can fix this....i wish that were true...but the clock is ticking and so far we have nothing....liberals must be wondering now, were they duped or did they waste their votes...His support for his constituents is why he is going to the US in the first place...

Based on recent reports, Jamil Jivani, a Canadian Conservative MP, has expressed strong support for auto workers in Oshawa and across Canada amid rising economic uncertainty caused by trade issues and potential tariffs.
Key points regarding Jivani's position and commentary on auto workers include:
  • Support for Local Workers: Jivani has highlighted the impact of international trade issues on Canadian families and has welcomed actions from local organizations, such as museums offering free admission to GM employees, to show support for the local auto community.
  • Emphasis on Trade Stability: He has stressed that the CUSMA (Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement) is critical for his constituents and Canadian workers, calling for all parties to work together to secure the trade deal.
  • Opposition to Outsourcing/Over-reliance on Foreign Markets: Jivani has criticized focusing on political "virtue signaling" and instead focused on the need to protect Canadian jobs, rather than relying on external, foreign-based economic solutions.
  • Support for Local Industry: He has aligned himself with the need to protect the Canadian auto sector during turbulent times in the manufacturing industry.

Sure , but so is our economy, it is costing us jobs, and industry...so the question is can we afford the cost of waiting him out , or play his game , start to repair our industry, and create more jobs...Canadians still have not come to grips we depend on the US for everything...Yes we should diversify everything....but we will never free for US influence....we should be growing that relationship, not slagging them at every convivence...

He has been very vocal about US trade and the tariffs , why do you think he is in the US now....trying to get the ball rolling , the same one the liberals seem to have lost control over...This trade thing is not goin g away....can't do the liberal thing and hide it under the rug, come this summer all of our trade is under threat if the US decides to pull out....then all our trade will be open to tariffs...Carney does not have this under control...or we would not have any tariffs....

So to be clear Joly is talking out her a$$, as thats her job...I'll be watching for any results and then to see if the liberals embrace movement on the file or if they dismiss it as conservative hyjinx.

Until this went public, I have never heard of this guy.

What ever made you think the ball has not been rolling? Just because you have not read about it? Negotiations are behind closed doors...they, the US and Canada , will not tell you what is going on. All negotiations are done behind closed doors...be it union deals or contract deals or trade deals. The parties decide what they let out to the public.

Please, the world is under threat of trumps tariffs...if not today, then tomorrow or if today maybe not tomorrow.  It is happening to all nations. Carney's  team are not in the habit of showing their cards.

So lets be clear....Polievere has never said a thing...about this guy heading down and more importantly, if this guy knows so much and has so much pull, why did PP not even include him in his shadow cabinet?  BTW...Carney has 28 (cabinet ministers) + 10 (secretaries of state) and Polievere has 71 shadow cabinet members and Jivani is not one of them. LOL. Giving this guy any credit is a step too far. He is a zero, even to PP so, he is getting his 15 minutes of fame :)

An off the curb thought...is Jivani trying to overshadow PP?? Is he looking towards another leadership convention?

Who, when and where have we been "slagging them at every convivence"?

So, it sounds like you're hoping, with both fingers crossed, that Jivani makes no headway on trade with the US and really, really, really resent the Conservatives trying to collaborate to make it happen, using a diplomatic "in" they have.

That doesn't sound very "Elbows up."

Are you actually going to try and debate me???

Confux has tried for years and continually loses...ya wanna be on the list because you and be a LOSER too :)

Jivani is a ZERO that cannot even make PP's shadow cabinet.... and PP has the most shadow cabinet members in history...over half his members are on it and Jivani never made the grade LOL

I don't resent the conservatives trying to collaborate at all...it would be great but it would be nice to see the leader collaborate. LOL Sad his back benchers have to show the way for the leader LOL

Melanie 'didn't read the contract' Joly, saying Jivani should do more is rich.

'Unjust and unjustifiable tariffs by the American administration, 'And he (Jivani) should be talking much more about it'.

Carney is actually the one that should be taking the lead on this, but he isn't.

US tariffs on Canada are higher now under economist, banker, WEF shill- Mark Carney than they were under the lightweight Justin Trudeau.

Because Carney invented a bunch of new cabinet positions he calls "secretaries of state" or something.  The opposition has to have a shadow minister for each of them.

Carney's new positions come with a raise - they get more than regular MP's.  The Conservative shadow ministers do not.  They agreed to receive the same pay as the regular MPs.

He has offered many times.  Carney has refused.  In fact, Carney has refused to collaborate with anyone.  That was the biggest complaint with the budget.  The NDP, the Bloc, the Conservatives - all said he did no collaboration with other parties.  He barely consulted with his own party.

I've seen many articles about how Carney is running Canada like he's the CEO, not the Prime Minister.

You're welcome of course, to have your own opinion on things.  But you don't get to say your opinions are facts.  Your opinions are often based on emotional thinking and mostly not on any facts.  Even your posts are mainly juvenile emotional outbursts.
