I reckon that prayer is talking to oneself.

Seems to me it's voicing your desires. If you can let go of your desires, like a stoic or Buddhist, would you need prayer? Repeating learned specific prayers is more meditation then prayer.

Perhaps you should focus on understanding basic concepts of logic first...

Huh?

The idea that your prayer will change anything in the world/universe is absurd.

=====

As I say, prayer is a person (you) talking to yourself.

You are right about that.

Dear God, hope you get the letter, and-
I pray you can make it better down here
I don't mean a big reduction in the price of beer
But all the people that you made in your image
See them starving on their feet
'Cause they don't get enough to eat from God
I can't believe in you

XTC.

I swear, you leftists are always expecting someone else to do something for you. You would walk past a homeless person starving on the street while eating your cheeseburger and then curse God for not helping them.

What in Gods name are you talking about?

When people pray, they are in effect talking to themselves.

Some people have a good conversation with themselves; others don't.

I think you are confusing prayer with your posting style here.

Style?

What's the difference between my post and a prayer?

When I write, I am generally talking to myself.

I've  witnessed prayer being solace in a time of extreme grief or extreme tragedy.

............. or when hope is the only strategy.

A comforting lie?  Or is someone listening who may intercede on one’s behalf when one begs for help?

Well I've noticed you talked to yourself quite frequently here so I can only assume you're an extremely Pious man

Lie????

I describe it as a confession of an individual's feelings. .....hope?

Your 4 y/o is  dying of cancer - you've talked to the doc - 6 months, max

Hope is  an option................... hope is the only option?

CdnFox, you made me laugh!

What happens when I can no longer talk to myself?

Shakespeare wrote these famous words: "But in this sleep of death, what dreams may come.... "

John Stone, I entirely agree.

Prayer is the ability to talk to oneself.

Such parents speak to themselves in Albanian or American, English or French.

Two things.  One now NO one will understand you and 2 the board will become more quiet ;)

Hope is not a synonym for prayer.

.............. those with faith will tell you that prayer inspires hope.

Sure. Are all faiths as likely to produce results from prayer?

............... no idea, but likely depends on the individual

Confused with ur use of the word, 'results' ..... solace?
